This is just my opinion but I don't think there are any Club O unit owners here on this site. There may be a few here that actually know an owner and might be able to answer some of your questions but what you may get is just speculation or second hand information on this topic. I would think it's best to contact Club O directly and those with the right information will be able to answer your questions without rumor, speculation or 2nd hand knowledge.
We visit Club O every year and plan to until we can't afford it any longer or can't stand the 13hr travel day to get there. Each year we've been, there's been so many different sides to the Club O story that it changes from lounge chair to lounge chair.
but....I will stand corrected if someone here is a unit owner and is willing to give you first hand info.
Good luck, hope you find out something cuz we'd be interested in purchasing as well.

Just returned from Eden Bay in the Dominican. I must say, I have visited many nude beaches/nudist resorts, and Eden Bay is now hands-down my favorite. As a travel agent, I have to visit all of the resorts I sign. I've been to Orient and it was OK....but, as far as feeling comfortable, Eden Bay was the best!
I hope to send millions of nudists there from now on!

Oh, and also, someone on the 1st or 2nd page asked about St. Croix. No, there are no nude beaches here. It is illegal. Isn't that horrible? There are a couple of beaches that you could go to and get naked, however, you run the risk of arrest and/or your vehicle getting broken into. Jack's or Issac's Bays. They are beautiful, but, one heck of a walk. I'm more than happy to answer any questions on travel destinations in the Caribbean! Have a great night!

my wife and i visited orient beach in '04, and it was great. i would say that of all the c/o and nude beaches we have visited, orient beach (in my book) is tied for first place with haulover in miami. orient may even have a slight advantage in that it is more exotic (being on st. martin), and it is pretty cool to sit down and eat nude at places like baywatch (which is technically across the line on the "textile" side, but that is a very blurred line). of course, haulover is much more accessible financially, so i'm torn....

A couple we met at - - were given glowing reports of Club Orient, went down to St. Martin and came back reporting it was not anything like the Palm tree lined, wood chalet filled tropical oasis far removed from civilization and textile tourists. Why? Because the information they had received about Club O was from a couple that had last visited the place before Catagory 4 Hurricane Luis in September of 1995. Over a decade ago!
Real old timers love to tell of the time they took morning walks nude all the way to the Mt. Vernon hotel and back, eating at Pedro's nude without a crowd of cruise ship passengers molesting them and "way back" when - - - owners Steve and Linda Payne ran the Papagayo restaurant. File these away under fond memories but the beach and Club Orient reflect a much more built-up and textile encroachment to the area. If you are the slightest bit uncomfortable with masses of camera toting day- trippers slogging along the beach with Hawaiian shirts and alabaster legs with rayon socks pulled high above their Florsheims; well Club Orient is not for the novice nudist.

When we were at Club Orient in February of this year it sure seemed cool to us. They did have the palm tree lined path and wood chalets (although we didn't see the inside of one). As for cruise tourists, well I have to confess, we were cruise tourists ourseleves just there for the day along with about 500 other naked cruisers. (We left our rayon socks aboard the Costa Mediterreanea) The water was fabulous, lunch at the Papagayo Restaurant was delicious as was the beer. The staff was very friendly and made us all feel welcome. We'll go back for sure!

There is still much to enjoy, vealj. After Hurricane Luis a precious few of the original wooden chalets were left intact. Club Orient founder Reint Brink replaced a majority of them with what some people uncharitably called "bunker architecture." And who could blame him after what he and his family lived through that hurricane night with 120+ mph winds devastating his resort. In the ensuing decade some palm trees and tropical foliage have been planted in and around the resort to give it a more lush feel. One Club Orient feature decidely improved upon after re-construction is the Papagayo restaurant, much enlarged from the original.
(Try to find some pre-1995 photos of Orient beach to see the startling difference pre- and post- Luis.)
vealj, is it true cruise directors polish their stand-up comedy routines giving passengers information about day trips to Orient beach? I recall talking to one woman who looked for all the world like "Aunt Bee" from the old Andy Griffith show. According to her, the St. Maarten/ St. Martin tour information was one big double entendre laden giggle, finished off with the cruise director telling her ship's passengers to go "size up the situation at Orient beach." What followed was a mad dash for cabs at the Philipsburg pier.

Don't know. I've never been on a "regular" cruise, only nude ones. The cruise directors on the ones we were on were a blast and on the Legend the cruise director went nude on stage himself the last night.
On the Costa, the Club O marketing staff was on board the whole cruise and put on a program dedicated to promoting the club. They would throw Club O tee shirts out to the nude show attendees every night of the cruise at the variety show. And there sure was a mad dash when we landed at St. Maarten, I think it was the best attended shore excursion of the whole cruise. In fact, it was the cruise participants who convinced Bare Necessities to alter the original cruise itinerary which was supposed to take us to the very naturist UNFRIENDLY island of St. Kitts to St. Maarten/St. Martin.

I have a change to spend a week at Club O later this year, either at the end of November or in mid-December. I have heard that it can get a bit windy there in the winter. Does anyone have a suggestion as to which of these two times might be more likely to have calmer weather?

Was at Club O late Nov. to early Dec. last year (just a few mo. ago) & we had quite a bit of wind for a few days, but only one day was so windy as to make the beach jump up at you . We also had a bit of rain as well, and overall it wasn't as calm as when we've gone at 6 other times (all late April to early June). My wife said she would pick a different time of year to go there next time. Hope that helps.

Actually, there are Club Orient owners who occasionally visit this site. If you are interested in buying a unit there, contact sales@cluborient.com.
