My wife and I are heading to St. Martin in May, and we can't wait to go. We plan to spend the majority of our time on the French side (staying at Grand Case, I think) and just visit the Dutch side.
We had also looked at St. Croix (less commercial than St. Thomas, we heard), but couldn't find a nude beach other than Isaac's Bay, and that's not official. We considered Jamaica, but three different friends of ours (couples) said they were disappointed with aggressive panhandling there (even rather forward offers of ganja and sex acts) and won't go back. Does anyone here have experience to share about clothing-optional beaches and the general atmosphere on St. Croix or Jamaica? (Wherever we go, we need to stay at a textile resort.)
I'll be happy to report on St. Martin when we return....

Seafoam,
Have a great time on St. Maartin. We arrive the later part of June. We can't wait to get there either.
We stay at Club O. Planning to stay nude for an entire week if we can help it. We plan to eat in as much as we possibly can.
Have a great trip. Let us know by way of trip report how your stay is in May.

New member here, but wife and I have been going to Orient since 94 (2 wks at New Years and 2 wks in July). Though we stay at our time share at Sapphire Beach Club on the other side of the island, we spend literally every day at Orient beach or Cupecoy which is walking distance from our resort. Cupecoy is much smaller, has some cliffs that protect the beach from the ocean breezes, is frequented by locals, has beach boys to provide chairs, refreshments (sometine a bbq) and umbrellas, and is a short walk from parking. Orient, on the other hand is gorgeous, expansive and truly a great beach. Being a full scale resort, the restaurant, beach chairs, umbrellas, nude cruises, floating platforms off shore, etc. are awesome. You can enjoy watching the sail boats of every type as well as enjoying amenities of the adjacent textile (topless) beach. More impressive is the security! When some gawkers from the cruise ships wander by, especially sporting a camera or video, the security comes from out of seemingly nowhere to confront the person, who either is escorted from the beach or immediately puts away their photography equipment! We thought that was pretty cool, Though, we find the textile gawkers are definitely more uncomfortable than those enjoying a full tan. In fact, we've observed some of those who are in bathing suits often shed some or all of their suits before making the complete trip! We have not stayed at the resort, but walking from the parking area thru the resort, it is always clean, well cared for, and very laid back. We have met several people during our visits who do stay at the Orient and they have only had high praises for the resort. We would thus, have to highly recommend Orient!!

Mona,
Have a great time. My wife and I just got back. Way too short a stay. The beach is great, about 35 ft in front of Papagayo's. Last year at this time the patio of the restaurant was being undermined.
We did encounter alot of textiles walking the beach, like three straight days of it. It started to get irritating.
Have fun!!

We have been to SXM three times. Going back again this October. One of the nice things about SXM is that no one owns the beaches. You can stay at any hotel/resort and still use the beach in front of Club O. We have been there in both the off season and the High season. During the High season (November thru April, I think) orient beach does get pretty crowded with the Cruise ship people. We always get a cruise ship schedule off the internet. And on days when there are more than two or three ships in port, we simply go to another beach. If you want more seclusion, I would suggest cupecoy, happy bay and Pinel Island as a few other options. Cupecoy and Happy bay are on the leward side so they are good also for days when it is too windy to enjoy orient beach.
There is nothing wrong with club orient, but I think it is a little pricey and the accommodations are spartin. We prefer (and this is just our personal preference) more upscale accommodations and don't mind driving a few minutes to the beach. Our #1 pick is L'Esplanade in Grand Case. Upscale and secluded, and just a five minute drive to Orient.
There are so many options at St Martin, you just have to go and explore and find what fits your style.
If you want to learn as much as you can about St Martin from the internet, go to http://www.jmbcommunications.com/sxm.html

We will agree that there are more upscale properties to stay at on SXM, but haven't found one that allows you use of the entire facility while also being nude.
We enjoy Club Orient because we want to go someplace where we can check in, take off our clothes and remain nude until we leave to return home.

FireProf,
You may sometime want to visit Eden Bay in the Dominican Republic. Here's a trip report: Eden Bay is a lovely resort in the Dominican Republic. You can make reservations using this link. http://www.edenbay.com/Res_Step1.php?L=E&GoBack=Main&Promo=cherial
http://www.edenbay.com = just to see the place.
There are a multitude of things to do when staying with at Eden Bay. Since your stay is limited to one week, I think you'll find at least one day spent enjoying a "decompression" period. If you don't allow for this, the transition from the hassle of everyday life to the calm serenity of Eden Bay may be too much.
Once you've settled in you can enjoy a leisurely message, a relaxing swim, an invigorating Kayak ride, scrumptious meals, delicious tropical drinks, etc., etc. If however you'd like to experience the island, might I suggest that you might want to ask your taxi driver who picks you up at the airport to divert a bit through Sosua and Cabarete on your trip from the airport to the resort. Sosua is a town founded in the '40s by German Jewish immigrants escaping Germany during W.W.II it is quite quaint and walking the streets of town is a pleasant experience. Sosua beach has many vendors selling their wares and some very good deals can be had there. Cabarete is a "younger" town and is popular with many young Europeans. It is also a highly respected windsurfing area and many bars line the beach where wind surfers and their audiences congregate. There are excursions you can take from the resort to do snorkeling in Rio San Juan (which my son and his girlfriend did just yesterday and said it was great)to jeep safaris, horseback riding, casinos, river rafting with waterfalls, etc. We've been on the mangrove and ocean cave tour out of Rio San Juan twice and found it interesting enough to do it twice. Not knowing exactly what you might be interested in, I ask that you contact me or Patricia Gorden, our hotel manager at the resort: Edenbay@verizon.net.do, direct for additional information. I'm sure you'll have a great time -- sorry we'll miss you as my wife and I are going down from April 15th thru the 21st. If there is anything you want us to check out and report to you, let us know.

Cheri,
Thanks for the link. We actually have it bookmarked on our Favorites list. I would love to try all these nude resorts but my wife seems comfortable going back to the same place where she feels most comfortable and knows the routine.
This is a place where I think she'd like to visit with a group of friends.
Thanks again.

I'm new to this forum but not to nudism as a lifestyle. I visited Club Orient in April 2002. I was quite disappointed with the place. I saw it as a one star place (and that's being generous) charging six star prices. The only good things I could say about the place was that we had a beach chalet (it's nice to step out in the morning and dig your toes into the sand) and that we could indeed be nude 24/7. That said, I was unimpressed with the service which ranged from unhelpful to downright rude and the lack of amenities. At any other $200+ per night resort, I would expect to have complimentary beach chairs, water craft etc. At Club O, there were no complimentary amenities, no pool, no hot tub, no exercise equipment or anything else. At the time, I posted my displeasure on the AANR bulletin board and had an exchange of views with someone called Fireprof.
Anyway, what I love about being a nudist is the freedom to not wear anything. What I hate about being a nudist is the feeling that I'm pushed into expensive 3rd rate resorts which can get away with that level of service because we have so little choice. I feel like I'm confined to places like Club Orient and that doesn't feel like freedom to me. It is much better, in my opinion, to compromise a little - go to a textile place like the Mont Vernon (I believe it has now been re-named) which will give you value for your hard earned money and then enjoy the freedom of being nude on Orient Beach.
Nudists should boycott rip-off resorts until they start to provide value for money. I believe that they will improve quickly in order to stay in business.
