Okay, it took 21 seconds for THIS page to get natural. And I came back here to report that I tried to read page 13 of the "Does your family know" forum, and after a good 2 *minutes* the page came up with a message at the bottom that the server had timed out. It told me that I could change that parameter in the Admin section, but I didn't even bother. Prob'ly wouldn't have worked anyway.
Is there a real server problem, or is all this a symptom of a too-large data file being handled every time?

WOW ! I don't know what you did, Admin, but it got the job done. The site now seems to operate at a quite normal pace. A few seconds delay when opening a very large forum, but that is to be expected.
Now, about cleaning out some of those o-l-d pages (maybe 1 - 45 of the 50-some in "test" for example?)........

Yo, Moderator!!!
I have repeatedly offered to go thru and either directly delete or point out for official deletion on truly obsolete postings.
My favorite is like this. "Meet me at San Onofre Beach of Feb 5, 2005" with the last followup in March 2005.
There is no value in retaining some of this junk, and it will eventually drown the system.

The moderators on this website cannot delete any portions of the website. Only the Administrator can.

I have to say that the site seem to responding faster that it used to. I don't have to go off browsing in another tab while waiting for pages to open.

Much improved speeds. Glad I checked in. I'll actually bookmark this site now and participate more.

bebeto, you guessed it. Yes, this old rusty Microsoft Access database is getting an overdue upgrade to SQL soon.
If you have any tips to avoid trouble, I'll pass it along to our team.

I also find this website to be super slow. I am on a cable connection at a rate of 8.0MBPS and if that isn't fast enough then I don't know what is. Maybe the 24.0MBPS connection at work?

It took 59 seconds for the page to load to respond to this, and I'm on DSL. It's always like this, but I don't mind. I'm not going anywhere. I'll usually just find something else to do for a minute.

I've also noticed that sometimes it's slower than at others times. There are different speeds of DSL, my provider offered either 3 or 4 different speeds when I got my DSL and I ended up getting the faster one. I do a few websites for other people and myself and upload some rather large files. This time this page loaded in 3.47 seconds but it doesn't always work that fast, sometimes I have to wait 30-40 seconds.
Cheers, Dave

i have been on a lot of forums, and many have a large membership and lots of threads, i keep my computer clean, i have DSL, which is not as fast as the system at work but then again i can't justify a T1 line either. but yes this site is slow, we just need a bigger server and more bandwidth. so whom do we pitch in too ? who has the server ?
Have a Great Day :) Mike & Karen

If you click on the ONLINE USERS, you will see there is around 100 users online all the time. I'm sure that is most of the problem, but that's a good problem to have.

At the bottom of the page it says things like "This page got natural in 19.21 seconds". This is the time that the forum code took to access the database and format the page. This is very slow. I admin a much larger forum and never see over 0.2 seconds. I suspect that it's just outdated software. The speed of your connection will have very little effect.
The 100 users will mostly be search engine bots.
