Waited an hour to log on again. Much faster for some reason, perhaps the 20 fewer people on line at this moment. I haven't seen it this fast for several weeks. Forgot to mention that I thought the slowness might be Safari on my iMac, so tried Firefox a few times. Not a significant improvement. Used a different IP a couple of times but still no better.

I have been experiencing similar troubles here but only with nudist-resorts.org. I am on 8Mb broadband and have found it extremely frustrating. When my page does finally load up, the bottom of the IE window is showing at least 5 bars, but it still says that the page got 'natural' usually under 2 seconds. For this reason, I have not been here to post and repond to other posts. It is definately on nudist-resorts.org side, not mine. And as far as the cleaning my computer crap, all my temp files are cleaned during my shutdown and my computer is always spyware and virus free and running at optimal speed. When I ping here, it is usually more than half of what I get for results then when I ping others sites, like yahoo.com or google.com. Thank you. I will probably wait a while now for this post to take before refreshing to the next screen.

I have also noticed the slowness in getting to the web site. Seems to be the only site that is very slow. Any answers?

I've a brand new computer, a Dell Core 21 Duo at my office, and most days, it's quite fast. Yesterday it did slow down again a bit. It depends on how many might be online and on the same website possibly.

I'm with you folks - I too have found this site slow lately. I have cable and pay for a faster service than domestic, so it isn't at my isp; I eat the cookies, clean the cache and temp files regularly, and still it is slow. Yet the discussion here is amongst the best on the 'net, so I value it.

PS - it took 19.5 seconds for this post to 'get natural'

Thanks very much for the data everybody. The database has grown huge, as it is true we don't delete or archive old posts. Some of the old posts are some of the best, and we'd hate to have those unavailable.
We have a powerful server working for us in Gainesville, Florida, with great bandwidth. I suspect the problem is with the database size. Just in case it's a bandwidth problem I'll alert our technical team.
Are there any database managers out there with some timely advice for large database owners? Send me an email.
I like the numbers you guys are providing. It's plain that the real solution is to move all of us to Italy. Problem solved.

In the meanwhile, try using a browsing technique that works for me.
From your Active Topics page, right-click on your choices and open the links each in a New Tab.
I use Firefox, but other browsers have tabbed browsing, probably called something else than New Tab.
When you have several tabs open within your window, you can have them all loading while you read the first one. Saves time.
You just have to remember to close the tab, not the window, when you're finished reading.

That si why I suggested clearing out the TEST area. Very little of that is worth saving. I'm sure there are other things that can be cleaned but, that should give you an idea of haow much good it would do. THANKS for all your hard work.

Just got the following message:.....
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113'
Script timed out
/talk/topic.asp
The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools.
I've never seen that before (don't know what it means either)

I have had this Server.ScriptTimeout occur several times during the last 10 days or so as well. Curious why this should be occuring now.

Wow! I can't believe some of the load times I'm reading. I have DSL at home and work and have never had to wait more than 10 to 15 seconds between pages at either site. It takes me longer to get data out of the company server than it does here.

Kev I believe part of the problem is looking at some of the guests logged on. Right now there is a guest that has been on for (no kidding) 464 minutes. We are talking almost EIGHT HOURS. And he has been showing he is in 'Forums' since I logged in an hr ago. Seems little like a possible 'bot' issue to me, hogging up resources. Here is a cut and paste:
Guest #85 Forums 07/11/2007 06:48:27 AM 464 Minutes
This is just my theory mind you. You definately need to investigate this deeper to be on the safe side.

I too had noticed a slow-down over the past few weeks (couple months?). Sometimes it gets so bad I just close out and try later. Took three tries and several minutes to log in this session. I am on a cable modem, running Firefox on a G4 PowerMac. Time of day doesn't seem to matter - usually I am on in the wee hours, but today in the afternoon.
I like the idea of cleaning out the umpty-many pages of TEST, and maybe anything else that hasn't been visited in a year or more.
