Thanks for the info and the welcome. Sounds like a place we'd like. Is there any nightlife? Discos? What kind of music?

Well sounds like everyone has me beat in the caribbean. I really should lay my camera down, stop working and just go for a vacation. What is being described sounds nice.
The only island in the carribean i have visited is in Haiti, and it wasn't for pleasure. Haiti is the poorest country in our hemisphere. It isn't even considered to be a third world country but a 5th world country. One thing about Haiti, if you wanted to go nude you probably could as no one really cares or so it seamed. everyone relaxes natural. only when visitors come do the people put somthing on. sometimes not. When i was photographing them, the females (All ages) were content wearing nothing, or next to nothing. Nothing that is untill they saw my producer (female) blonde, pretty, and elegant, in which case they all covered up. [I hate my producer...*smiles*, although i do love the way she handels a buget for a shoot...basically, whatever i want]
I woud hate to promote nudity to these people, even though i wanted to go hiking in the mountains nude while there... the people are uneducated, aids is the hightest in the world in Haiti, birth control is unheard of, poligamy is acceptable. mortality rate is in the 40's, most children don't live beyond 5 years of age, voodo is the relegion, children--boys and girls have sex for money, and they are trained to do it by their parents or friends or both....*shaking head* very sad. The resorts in Haiti have closed down.
Tell me, did the locals go nude in the caribbean resorts that you have visited? Or is nudity an object of desire for enlightend society?
Sorry, don't mean to rain on everyones parade (even my own), but do the locals partake in nudity in the more affluent carribean Islands?

Surprised at a1aparrot's post. First trip to St. Martin my wife & I had never been to a nude beach & were enjoying our trip immensely even before we visited Orient (just a couple of days before returning home). In 4 trips to the island we have had mostly excellent food (especially profiterolles for dessert), enjoyed the shopping & side trips and generally had a wonderful time even when we weren't on Orient (though we do think people who avoid Orient are missing something special). Really look forward to returning to this island -my favorite island as well as my favorite nude beach in the Caribbean (and we've been to several). By the way, in response to another post, have seen locals nude sunbathing/skinny dipping in St. Martin, Antigua & Guadeloupe (though not at the all-inclusive resorts I've been to in Jamaica).

Well Beach, I checked out the Orient Beach site and I have one question? Is this like the official site for Orient Beach? It seems a bit "risque" if you ask me. Some of the pics seemed a bit odd. Has anyone else noted that? Maybe I'm just sensitive... Susan

Susan, I agree with you somewhat. A good many of those photos seem to be a bit exhibitionist, a few of them are nudist.

St. Barts The Island is MUCH prettier and intimate than St.Maarten. Spectacular views, great food. No golf, casinos, poverty, crime, high rises, or gawkers like Orient Beach. The two nude beaches: Saline and Gouvenier are nude and all of the others are classic French topfree. It's not expensive either. Go here and you'll bag St. Maarten. We have a private Villa that we offer (often to nudists) by the week www.stbartsvilla.com

Orient Beach gets my vote. My wife and I went to Orient Beach about five years ago. She swore she would not remove her bathing suit. The first day, she laid down on her stomach and unhooked her bikini top. After about an hour because of the comfortable situation at Orient, she got up the courage to turn over and expose her breasts. The next day she had no hesitation taking off her top and walking down to the water. Later that day, she allowed me to remove her bottom while she was on her stomach, exposing her bottom. After about a half hour, she surprised me by turning over without putting her bikini back on. The rest of the week she had no problem walking around wearing nothing but a sun tan. The beach was beautiful and gave her a comfort level that allowed her to go nude.
We recently returned for a short stay and were somewhat disappointed by the effects of a hurricane which seems to have decreased the area of the beach substantially. However, the beach was still comfortable for nudism. My wife and I enjoyed swimming in the blue sea without any textiles at all.

I do hope that you continue to enjoy nudism not only at the resort but at home and perhaps a local club or park. I also hope that everyone who enjoys the occasional skinnydip would join and support the national organizations that help maintain our nudist venues.

So...... Is anyone going to St Maarten this season? Would be really nice to get an up to date trip report.... Perhaps some nice travel agent could organize a Nudist-Resorts forum group to go down and experience Orient Beach first hand.....

Orient Beach is beautiful but... There is lots of gawking (unlike Europe) and beach is dotted with tacky stuff like in Florida or at some other places in the Caribbean. The room at CO are VERY spartan and not very pretty. No trees or views as the area is totally flat and stripped of all of the nice trees it once had by the hurricane in '95. The help is all dressed and seem to be typical of the underpaid / uncaring minimum wage staff of a typical Caribbean resort. St. Barts is a 15 plane ride away but none of the above. NO casinos, crime, timeshares, golf, or hoards of gawking, overweight Americans drinking as they walk down the beach. check our place: www.stbartsvilla.com

Jeff - Your villa is beautiful, but: 1)Club Orient is right on Orient Beach (not on a hillside). 2)There's a restaurant at Club Orient, so you don't have to travel or cook for yourself. 3)There's a store at Club Orient, so even if you do decide to cook for yourself you don't have to go far to get food to prepare. 4)Having stayed in a chalet at Club Orient, I wouldn't say that rooms are VERY SPARTAN...most rooms have been renovated or completely rebuilt after Hurricane Luis. They have air conditioning, bath/showers which are modern & provide hot water (which isn't always the case in the Caribbean) & up to date (if not luxurious) kitchen/cooking areas. Club Orient is a wonderful place to stay. It also has NO golf, NO casino & NO St. Barths attitude (yes, I've been there...people won't acknowledge you until you attempt a few words in French, then address you in perfect English). Some people really like St. Barths, but even more like St. Martin & I count myself in the latter group. I'm sure some people would love a vacation in your villa, but I'll take Club Orient.

Orient Beach is THE beach to visit while in the Caribbean. Club O may not be the swankiest but it has a loyal following of really Nice people. I'll be heading there in late January! And I have found the food in St Maarten to be wonderful. You just need to know where to go....

Yes, we are going this summer!!!
We are both excited about this trip. We've been posting and reading the numerous replies about Club Orient and can't wait to get there.
We will be celebrating our 30th anniversary while there. We will be monitoring this site for up to date information and post a report when we return.
Anyone else thinking about going in mid-later part of June '03?

Hubby and I stopped in St Martin for the day from our cruise ship last month and now can't wait to go back and spend at least a week. People on the clothing optional side were very warm and friendly. One guy had brought a battery powered blender (he said Black and Decker made it) and made me a pina colada that was wonderful and refreshing. Other couples engaged in pleasant conversation with us as well.
One of the best parts, that I haven't seen written by anyone, is the reef right off the nude side. Just beyond the floating platforms is a nice little reef. It was absolutely wonderful for snorkeling for a couple who was new to it. Lots of colorful fish. Spent a couple of hours. Will now remember to come in and put more sunscreen on our backsides next time...sunburned buns.
I would highly recommend Orient Beach to anyone wanting to try partial nudity or full nudity and experience the wonderful freedom and warm rays. There are gawkers, but funny how they are the ones that stand out as being "strange" or "obnoxious" and not the nudists. Enjoy...
