There is a State Forest Camp ground located between Highway 117 and Naubinway on U.S.2. It is called Big Knob State Forest Campground. There is a sign along U.S. 2 identifying the gravel road that leads to the Lake Michigan campground. The gravel road is about 6 miles long and dead ends at the campground. It has rustic camping, pit toilets, hand pump water etc. If you walk out to the beach and go to the right (west) and walk about one half mile or more you can go nude all day long and generally never be bothered by anyone. I have been using this area since 1989 and have never had a problem. It is a wildness area and the state owns 6-7 miles of shoreline. You can hike the beach, watch wildlife, soak up the sun and enjoy the warm breeze. Camp at the campground and enjoy the beach. Do not go nude at the campground.Also cover up if others approach, however in most cases they are there to go nude also.
Correction on location of the road leading to Big Knob. The road is 1.5 miles WEST of 117/US 2 intersection. We were at the beach all afternoon and soaked up a lot of sun and hiked some dunes all nude. There isn't much beach along the water's edge as Lake Mich. is up a foot from last year and is now reclaiming the old lake bottom. But there are sandy locations to pitch a blanket on the old dunes about 100 feet back from the waters edge. From the camp ground, hike west till you come to the small stream coming out of the woods. Wade across the stream and head towards the stoney point that you see ahead. There are some sandy areas on the back dunes in this area. Also there is an old Bald Eagle's nest in a pine tree behind the dunes. No bugs today and a nice mild breeze coming in off the water. Life is good!
