I told my sister, hoping she'd tell my Mom and Dad for me. She's too good though (except for likening my nudism to 'healthy sexual expression'). I probably will eventually tell them myself. I expect a 'hairy eyeball' and some "!!!!" but I think this would be the customary subterfuge and they'll ultimately 'get' it. They're old-school swimming-hole skinny-dippers from the 1970's. I think it would be fun for them to know I'm at least a little bit enlightened since being quite inhibited as a youth.
Seeking my role in opening the eyes of the world to the simple harmless pleasure of being naked in our great outdoors.

I think if your folks were as you say old school skinny dippers from the 1970's then they would be proud to hear that at least one of their kids has adopted that lifestyle.

I didn't tell my mother. I wanted her to find out. I started going around the house naked whenever she was home. She asked why I'm nude & I just told her it feels good & she should try it sometime. She said "no thanks" but if I want to keep doing it it's ok with her.

We have friends who have never told family members that they are nudists. So, for many years they have had to be evasive about holidays and where they'd been and all that kind of stuff. They are now seeing a lot more of a couple of their family and, with the summer coming on they are going to have to make a decision either to tell them or just not be around as much for them without any real reasons. Being open is best I think, and we've never lost friends through being frank about our nudism. It really has generated interest rather than scorn.

I think I told my mum that I had been to a nude beach when in Perth (Western Aust) on holidays many years ago in case she found out through the other guy I went with. There were a couple of funny things that happened, he told his folks, others found out etc. so I told my mum. She was very religious but reasonably open-minded although I believe she had prejudices there.
I didn't ever tell her that I continued to enjoy going to nude beaches after that. She died last year and it got me to thinking why we continue to need approval from our mothers even later in life as adults.
The original question was from a 19 yo female who may want to not keep any secrets from her mum but many others have been from those of us who have more life experience and the comments have been varied.
Just an observation. And why doesn't anyone talk about there Dad?

I suppose with many of us being brought up by our mothers whilst the father is out earning an honest crust, during the very early years does lead to a relationship building up with her. I could talk to my mother about anything under the sun and did, but tended to be slightly more guarded with my dad. I felt more at home naked with her even way into my adult life, where as with dad it happened when going swimming mainly. My memories of my dear mother and those late night conversations were special and I'm so glad we had them. After she passed away, I did get closer with my father and that is a comfort also. He was a sculptor and both my mother and I posed in the nude for him sometimes, but once I reached my teens I don't think I posed again at home. As I've said in other posts being open is always the best way, but sometimes it's not very easy to start.

I've become very open with my mom the past couple of years. My dad passed away 17 years ago, but I don't think I could ever be nearly as open with him as I am my mom. She's seen me naked a couple of times, but I don't know if she knows that I spend a majority of my time naked. This summer, I'll be visiting her for 3 weeks, so I'm sure I'll let her know then.

I suggested to my mom that we visit a nude beach in Florida. She agreed and ever since then she and the rest of my family have become nudists. It's great and you just gotta have the courage. It will take time though.

pies, this thread was interesting to me, because I think Im in a very similar situation, as far as age, and the hesitation to tell the family.
I hope whatever you chose to do goes well, and keep us updated- I think I can speak for most of the posters that we like to know how the advice worked out.

I seem to find it that everyone I asked for advice regarding this when I was a teen came from other mothers who said themselves that it would not be something to bother them nor would they even want to know about it for some reason to most mothers their sons nudity is gross. I eventually told my mother after she had caught me nude a few times. But for my parents nudity was mostly accepted sexually but not for comfort or fun.

renobiker, I think that is how alot of parents look at it because that is how they were raised. I love being clothes free, but if I would ever tell my mom, she would probably flip big time.

Mark- My mother in law by nature is much more conservative than my mother is but the mother in law accepts my nudity in front of her where my mother does not. But mother in law also does not see my nudity as sexual to her I just do it for comfort or just attention as she puts it.

Reno, My family was very strict when it came to being dressed and the boys not seeing the girls without anything, same with seeing our parents. I am so glad I am different and did not follow that path.

renobiker, I remember growing up us boys only had the tighty whites, but once I got in the military I went for the boxers. I can recall my first ex girlfiend how uncomfortable she was when I would come home from work then completely strip down to relax. She did not like that, she wanted me to at least have boxers on, but I would get to sweaty with them on. As far as the whites they were always way to uncomfortable. Live life clothes free.
