I didn't mean to imply that all men did, and I am sure the men in here wouldn't.

Isn't it a slight over generalisation to say that most men aren't shy? I know many men who are shy (and probably equally as many that aren't). I could probably say the same about women.

What does "shy" mean anyway?

I don't think peircings necessarily mean anything. I think it's just style, but I could be wrong. I know lots of women and girls with pierced belly-buttons and none of them are easy.

Sundance I have not heard that, I just assumed people got pierced like some people got tatoos. I did not know there was any meaning behind the piercing.

Hi all,

I don't have much to add on this topic but but but... I remember once I was among of freinds (she and he)on a nude beach and a older man came up (naked as well) and he had a ring around it's genitals....

We all stayed frozen... no word was said but it look rather strange.......

When someone talk about the meanings... I don't know what this man wanted to say....

peace

Corosol;

I can understand your reaction, however the person doesn't have to be nude. I have seen the same reaction at the grocery check out where the girl had pink hair and piercings through her ears, nose, lips and eye brows. There is probably nothing wrong with it, it just looks strange.

Interesting comment about the "meanings" behind piercings. I'm not aware of any.

I have no piercings, or tatoos, though I have considered getting one of those for a while. I am not aware of any meanings attached to them either. Though I have seen a few folks at a nude beach who were carrying a lot of hardware attached to their genitals. I would say if you get that area tatooed or pierced heavily then you are trying to focus attention on it.

For the indigenous people of New Zealand,the Maori,tatoos or moko told a story of the persons ancestory and tribe.Many had their faces fully tatooed,a tradition that is currently again becoming popular.In fact Mike Tyson,Robbie Williams and a few other celebs have Maori inspired tats on their bodies,Tysons is on his face and Robbies is on his arm.

Nudkiwi,

The Maori "arm band" tatoo is popular here in Australia. I'm not so sure why though? May be a few Aussies really want to be All Blacks (Eck!)... Now there's another reason I don't want one! ;-)

Cheers,
