I had a look at the hair removal foams today but decided against trying it. I just can't see how putting a chemiical on your body can make hair come out... What exactly does it do? I'm sure hydrochloric acid would also work. Ouch!

Sponta, It dissolves the hair. I've used Nair many, many years ago to trim the edges when needing to wear a swimsuit. Now I don't ever need to wear a swimsuit and have no need to trim.

Dissolves the hair??? Gulp! Wow that sounds a little strange. I might buy some experiment with it. Cheri, did it have any side-effects?

Is Nair a hair removal foam/cream? I saw it at the store but it looked more like a wax-type product.

Nair is a cream, though I think there are now hair removals that are foam. And, of course, you can buy a wax if you'd like.

Melissa;
I have know some women that used nair on their legs, they stopped after it was causing them some irritation. I don't think it would be good for the genital area. Can I say that?

Can I guess its probably not as much of a problem for men than it is for women?

Sponta, I had no side effects whatsoever except for hair loss (same as Melissa) from the Nair with aloe. I left the foam on for a minute less than recommended as I'm allergic and supersensitive to stuff. I don't remember the exact time...over 10 yrs. ago. I DON'T like waxing, it hurts when the congealed wax is removed pulling the hairs out with it.
Hugs, Cheri

the biggest problem with body hair is that it will always grow back! Body hair is on a 6 month cycle, a hair grows for about 6 months then falls out. so ever if you have it all off right now a new hair has already started to grow. I shave about every other day now to keep my skin used to the razor (less irritation). depilitories work well but you have to be extra carefull arround exposed the parts and watch for a reaction of the skin to the chemicals.

I use a candle to singe (cinge) the hair on the wanted parts... I don't take them out completly...
No blade burn, no redness,
Run the flame and pass your hand to stop it...just live a fuzz..
** Warning you don't do that on a full pubic lenght hair area.... this is a maintenance procedure..
You have to watch around hair (head) not to catch in fire but the result is super... not brittle..or harsh... just smooth..
It smell when doing it but a good shower kills the hair burned odor... and after I apply a smooth body lotion like "uncendet Lubriderm lotion..."
peace

Corasol,
Maybe I'm not reading your post right (it'a happened before LOL) but isn't that dangerous? Burning yourself to get rid of hair just doesn't seem worth it.

Mélissa,
Just came back from the gym...
You are reading right... At the hair stylist or barber shop, they used to singe (cinge... I don't know how to write it) the end of the hairs.... No, not dangerous. You don't hold the candle until there is no more hair... just slighthy pass it over the disired spot (hair to be shorted) and with your other hand just pass it on to stop the burning hair...
Just don't tip the candle so the wax won't drip on you....
It has for effect to have a hair not stiff and no blade redness... and it take longer to grow because the end of the burned hair is sealed...
peace

Well make sure you dont mix up the Nair with hair conditioner, that can be embarrasing.
