Folks, every year it's the same-old same-old...It's just that now, everyone and his 3rd cousin is walking around with a camera 24/7,in the form of a cell-phone...And I've seen cell-phones tossed into the sea there.

If you object to what's going on,grow a set and confront the losers! It's amazingly easy to get them to scurry away, like the cowards they are."Claim your space",as Cesar always says...And it works as well with clueless men as it does with dogs.(I prefer the dogs, actually.)

It would be nice to be 100% relaxed there, but that's not the world we live in.I've actually seen some of the same Gunnison losers spending the winter at Haulover in Miami, and behaving the exact same way as they do in NJ!

What's the cliche..?"The price of freedom is eternal vigilance"?Step up to the plate, people, and solve this problem one gawker at a time.(It works.)

Well, you have to find them first, which is sometimes easier said than done -- these guys are pretty sneaky. Also, I doubt we're talking about a cell phone camera here. The images I'm talking about, at least, look like they were taken with pretty sophisticated photo equipment.

Well, I obviously can't post them here, as it's against forum rules. Nor would I want to give them any free advertising. I just PM'd you, though.

KM, I agree about how I would feel if I brought someone who ended up on the Internet. I did have my wife at Gunnison 2 times (she just didn't like it). Would you mind PM-ing or Emailing me with the link? This is a very disturbing thing. Thank you.

This is getting to be a popular request -- I can understand why! After all, we're the targets, right? Will do.

KM, My wife and I go to Gunnison several times each year. After reading this forum we are both curious to see if we were targets also. Could you please PM us the link. P.S. we will now be much more aware of cameras that might be in our vicinity. Thanks

Damn, cameras everywhere? NOW I HAVE TO GET INTO SHAPE FASTER! No seriously, I’m not self conscience about me and my girlfriend ending up on some “porn” site, I’m more concerned that I let myself go. Gained weight, lost my deep tan, grew another year older.

If anything, this extended voyeurism has made me work out even more. Hey, healthy body, healthy mind. If these jerks want to salivate at seeing naked bodies or poke fun at other people’s imperfections, then they are the ones with the mental problems. I believe in the body beautiful. And that includes a overall tan.

This is the same story that happens every year around this time. It’s the pre-season nude jitters. We all have them when we first emerge out of our winter’s cocoon. If someone sneaks a peek with their mini-camera and you catch them, they cannot exploit the image EVEN ON PUBLIC LAND! If you don’t sign a release and they use your likeness on a website, publication for profit or just even show your image to others without your consent then there is a law suit. Money will exchange hands. I would say that 99.9% of us are not public figures and our likeness in photographic imagery is protected. Be nude, be happy and be healthy. Life is way too short to let someone give you rules you do not agree with.

Over the course of the past 3years(amount of time going to Gunnison), I have confronted 2 people taking pics of others. One was an older guy who had a video camera in a lunch bag. I politely told him to leave the beach or his camera would look funny sticking out of his ass. The second time the guy was using a cell phone. I caught his eye and just shook my head, he closed the phone and behaved the rest of the time there. I know it happens more than that but i am going there to relax and enjoy the weather. I dont want to and wont be on a constant watch for pathetic people out to get a cheap thrill. On that note, I am not really interested in the website that KM has.

I would think all of us, even those that don't like confrontation, would be able to at least do this. This problem will always be around, but we have to start showing these idiots that this behavior will not be tolerated.

Finding them may not be as difficult as you think. I was at Gunnison on Memorial Day weekend and without looking for it saw two instances of photo taking.
On Sunday there were two fully clothed middle aged guys in beach chairs at the front of the beach half way between the north end of the nude beach and the life guard stand. One guy was sitting sideways in the chair with a cell phone tucked in the waistband of his shorts with the lense pointed toward the water. It wasn't in a holder but strategically postioned and looked so out of place that I turned around and went back to look again.
On Monday there was a nude guy about 150 yards from the food stand toward the water. As I was getting ready to leave I noticed him standing up with his Blackberry at arm's length (like someone trying to read fine print without their glasses) panning back and forth. Then he would put it into the cup holder of his chair and reposition the chair. I watched him for a few minutes and he repeated the dance so many times it was obvious that he wasn't using it to make phone calls. I get down to Gunnison 3-5 times a year and see covert picture taking at least once on each trip.
At Haulover I've seen people confront people taking pictures and the public admonishment was enough to stop it. So it can be done, but I'd hate to see over zealous patroling result in the harassment of people legitimately using their cell phones.

Eureka!

How about this:restrict cell phone to a designated area, say a place back towards the boardwalk, and out of range of naked people?Any use of phones outside the ropes would be a ticket-able offense.(I hate listening to them on the beach anyway.)Probably wouldn't completely effective, but it would certainly help.

Sounds good to me. If Amtrak, also a public place, can have cell phone-free cars (well, so-called "quiet cars" in which you can't USE your cell phone), maybe Gunnison can have something similar. Although, while I could be wrong, I still really don't think that the worst offenders (as in the ones contributing to the adult websites) are using cell phone cameras, but rather fairly high-end Canons, Nikons, etc. THOSE are what you really have to watch out for.

My wife and I have taken pictures of each other on the beach as i'm sure many people do with a cell phone. The quality of cell phone pictures is no where near the quality of picture that you see on these web sites. I agree with KM the real problem is probably with the pictures taken with a photographers high end camera. I think if more people were aware of these web photographers and kept an eye out for them then it would be harder for them to hide. I just hope that we go after the real offenders and not just anyone who happens to have a cell phone in their hand.

Agreed. And here are my feelings about how we can best handle it when you see someone in the act of sneaking pictures. I'm basing this on what I've actually seen happen at Gunnison over the last few years. First, resist the urge to throw their camera in the ocean and avoid getting into a quarrel with them. Instead be calm and intelligent and put them on the hot seat. Summon the rangers to the spot and be sure to tell them this VERY IMPORTANT thing - tell the rangers you are concerned that he might have taken pictures of children. The rangers are very sensitive to that. Emphasize your concern for it. If it goes like I've seen it go, they will review every picture in the jerk's camera looking for that, while he stands and sweats. And you are not lying about it either. There could very well be children in his camera and we are all concerned about that, especially those who are parents or grandparents. I do recommend calling the rangers to the spot instead of trying to escort him to the ranger shack. That way you keep the incident visible to everyone - make it a spectacle. Be sure to spread the word around quickly that the guy was taking pictures. If there happens to be another photographer perv in the area it will scare him too. And hopefully it will inspire others to follow suit if they ever see someone sneaking a picture. If there are any pictures with children in that camera the jerk will be in deep legal trouble. One last thing - summon the rangers without confronting the guy. Do it behind his back. These jerks are known cowards who are fully aware that they are doing wrong. Cowards will run away as fast as they can (and they have too). Don't give them an opportunity to escape. Make them sweat.
