New member, lifetime nudist, visit some resorts when I have the time. Surfed to this site and looked around. Like that Kimmy avatar (interesting label, avatar.) My offering, my morning meditation.
Eight hundred generations of man, the last fifty or so out of the caves. Through recorded history size has fluctuated from small to large and back again, the greatest influence being nutrition (some article I read in the New Yorker awhile back). In other words, we aren’t all that advanced from our ancestors. The stage props have slightly changed: cars, houses, gadgets, clothes. Before man controlled the environment he dressed for comfort. Nude in the tropics, animal skins in the cold.
Social nudity flies in the face of a lot of social custom. Accepting the premise that deep in our genes we are still in the caves, I wonder about those ancient customs.
Any anthropologists out there? So-called “primitive” people from South America and Africa, social units who live in the nude, follow the same path as their textiled cousins in cities. They live, aspire, mate and raise youngsters.
The textile culture, fueled by Hollywood’s boy-meets-girl edifice, has evolved elaborate customs of flirtation, titillation, infatuation, intoxication of desire, much of it based on the mystery of what lies under those clothes.
The meditation: stripped of the cultural illusions that accompany clothes, what are the social signals of attraction? Males display their power to provide (primitive hunting skills or modern portfolio), yet modern nudists don’t kill with spears or carry a wallet. And women? I’ve learned enough about life to not even try to speak for women.
Stripped and between cultures, what are the social signals of attraction? Speaking for men, I’m highly attracted to the feminine qualities of acceptance, warmth, nurturing, the sense of fun that emanates from a happy woman. So, what does a man have to go on? A winning smile? Is Alan Alda the primal throb or the practical choice?
Any thoughts?
