What is everyones opinion of being naked in public or private. Not so much as in your own house, but more when it comes to the beaches.

I have been a naturist for 25+ years but both my partner (female) and I still love the feeling of being nude on a private beach with no one around. We personally dont need people around, to look at or for them to look at us to enjoy the lifestyle.

I am sure that a lot of 'naturists' like the voyeur/exhibitionist side of naturism, and we are not criticising them. We believe in every man/women for themselves, but would people here still be naturists if no one else was around?..... we know we would

Smile - you know it makes sense !!

My wife stated that one of the best things about she being a nudist is ... not EVER having to buy another bathing suit that doesn't fit ... again! She has one that she says will last her till she dies. It's only used when we have textile friends over and we use the hot tub. They've asked ... we tell them we don't usually wear anything but they say things like ... "I couldn't do that!"

We enjoy each others company to this day. WE like visiting places on our own and like to have a beach all to ourselves. But I am a social butterfly ... my wife, not so much. I like people, like to people watch (nude or clothed). One of my favorite things to do is buy some popcorn and a coke and sit on a bench at Disneyland and watch people walk by ... and they aren't nude at Disneyland ... so there's really no "voyuer" tendancies.

A well balanced mix of public and private nude beaches would suit us both just fine. Nice part is ... on nude public beaches ... you can go for a walk and find a spot where you can be alone and have the best of both worlds.

Loves being naked. Plays well with others!

After reading that article I was more upset that they made it a point to include how the general public can still make sure abiding nudists can be charged and arrested. By making a citizens arrest which if you read any other article about anything else they don't mention that to me they just couldn't leave well enough alone if it is legal then drop it unless they are walking around with erections as he said then it is illegal other then that leave the law abiding nudists alone.

I saw recently in SF that they had hearings on the folks walking around nude and no one showed up against or supporting, seems like it's not important to the citizens and it shouldn't be. As long as they are just nude and not being causing a disturbance or doing something sexual why should it matter , i'm not a big fan of SF or even California but I think most folks out there got this one right, of course don't expect many other cities to follow that.

Annie,

Here's the article about the proposed law in San Francisco.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/09/07/MNVK1L0TD9.DTL

Sounds like nudity is fairly common to at least the Castro area.

I like the one ladies view, she said, "Frankly I'm more disturbed by the meth heads, the drugs and the panhandling than I am by seeing a couple of naked guys."

I would imagine that nudity is technically "legal" in any city that does not otherwise have a law specifically prohibiting it. That doesn't mean a nude person walking down the street can't be arrested for "disturbing the peace" or some other convenient excuse. I wonder if the same is true in San Francisco?

If not, I'm moving there :)

Warmskin,
You were speaking of Bay to Breakers in San Francisco, but did you know that nudity was pefectly legal in that city. You can walk down the street naked in San Francisco and not get arrested. It was recently in the news they were trying to pass a law requiring that nude people sit on a cloth when sitting on a public surface like a bus seat or park bench.

Sorry Admin, for hijacking the thread.

I would agree, Diger. I guess I was thinking about not being subject to arrest. Nudism itself belongs anywhere - museums, statues, etc., if you want nudism to be seen in cities. Or, nudism would be great for mass bike rides, Bay to Breakers in San Francisco, and the like. Groups can get away with nudism in the city, whereas individuals would have a tougher time of it.

In the countryside, I'm all for nudism. I just don't like the idea of being arrested while on vacation. So, I use the national forests quite aa bit, where I am not near authority.

My ideal world is that everybody is fine with nudity, and where nudity is taken for granted. Not a chance of that happening for a while, yet.

Agreed. I'm not sure that clothing is "right" even when its legally required. Maybe it protects the textile industry.

Our house rule says "don't get arrested." That is different than "obey the law." Most laws are created to justify police state control of the people.

I agree with Warmskin on one thing, there is not a rite or a wrong answer to this. It's all a personal choice and depends mostly on a person’s comfort level.

All of the above. Nudism is never wrong, alone or with others, except where illegal, but I would think most would choose to be with others.

I just love being naked either alone or in a group. However, there is just something more fun about hanging out with other nude people just having fun whether playing darts or volley ball or just having a good conversation.

I would agree with that Nudony. People are inherently social animals. Normal people generally enjoy the company of others. It doesn't change our social nature when we are naked. Naked people enjoy sitting with other people to make a social "connection," chat about the weather, discuss the latest sports score, etc. I only go naked when I'm alone or with someone.

When I lived in GA I would go nude hiking by myself, off the beaten path; so I am quite capable of enjoying nudity without being seen or anyone to see. I'm also nude right now as I'm typing this, so yes to home-nudity too. But...I still prefer to be immersed in a nude environment, surrounded by nude people in a scenic natural setting. There is just something very cool about people walking back and forth, or sitting besides you, just as nude a you are, with a river, mountains or the ocean as a backdrop. It's holistic in a way. I don't think it's voyeurism, since voyeurism is focused on specific people/body parts. When I see nude people around me, it's in a broad, unspecific manner. I just see nude people - period.

At Mazo beach, there are people who plop down right in the middle of the beach next to everyone else; whereas some people and couples prefer to go down to the less populated area and enjoy nudity privately. I don't think there's anything wrong with either practice. I don't think that people who isolate themselves are necessarily stand-offish; nor do I think people who want to be right in the "middle of it" are necessarily doing it for an "eyefull". I think most people with that approach actually do it for the "connection."

We're pretty much in agreement with Diger. We love to be naked in our backyard at home, but also love the variety of going to the local beach where we have lots of friends and spectacular ocean/nature scenery. Last time at the beach we saw dolphins close to shore. And when it comes to vacations, there is nothing like the thrill of discovering a new beach or resort; Haulover was our most recent. We have found secluded beaches where we spent time alone, and that is fun also, but they are rare spots and sometimes we worry about getting caught (as we once were on Cape Cod).

Sounds like the old tree falling in the woods without anyone to hear it question. Yes you would still be a Naturist and we love relaxing in our backyard alone too but, we also have several naturist friends we enjoy spending time at the beach with.

Just something about spending time with likeminded people that you must try before you can understand it.
