Posted - 04/12/2009 : 10:35:03 AM Hi Everyone, Let me begin by telling you I am a smoothie from my nose to my toes. I have been a smoothie for several years. I started out shaving and it was fine except for the constant upkeep and the stubble. My wife hated the stubble on my legs. I thought of waxing, but it was messy and took a lot of time if I did it at home and it was expensive of I went to a salon. I tried the epilator and found it to be the best thing to do. At first it hurt like waxing would. After a few times the pain lessened and now I cannot feel the hair coming out. I have NO stubble and I can go for weeks between uses. I have several epilators. The most comfortable is the conair dual head. My body is silky smooth and my wife and I both love the look and feel.

Posted - 11/17/2014 : 4:27:44 PM It's now been three years since I committed to being a smoothee from head to toe and I love being hairless.
It's still a lot of maintenance, but the top and sides of my head are getting pretty sparse. After a hiatus of several months, I'm back to epilating my face (boy did I hate having to shave every day).
Arms and legs stay pretty smooth and mostly regrow light peach fuzz with sparse dark hairs. I've been lazy with the upper legs, butt, groin, and back (soooo hard to reach).
I'm trying to cover every area once a week, but it's difficult. But it's definitely worth it.
My Emjoi eMagine for Men finally stripped its gears in the motor, it needs more than a replacment head. Still debating what to do.
Continued best wishes to all in meeting your goals for hairlessness. |

Posted - 07/21/2013 : 02:02:49 AM I just bought the Emagine 4MEN. I didn't think it was working because I didn't feel anything. Well, the hair is gone and time will tell if it was broken or removed.

Posted - 06/27/2013 : 1:42:00 PM Update on the Braun: I would say I've had mixed results. I wish I had tried one of the bigger Braun models with more tweezers/blades.
I've gone back to the Emjoi Emagine for Men. I bit the bullet and paid $25 for a replacement head. I know it will probably only last me three or four months, but I think it's worth it. With 72 disks, it covers more area faster. It also seems to be more effective on the light, fine hair that is basically all that remains on my arms.
The biggest difference is on my scalp--the Braun was becoming noticably ineffective, especially on the back of my head. I've wasted a lot of time these past few months.
It's good to have a truly smooth head again. I'll report back in a few months, since my initially reports seem to be so suspect.
Cheers to all my fellow Smoothees. |

Posted - 10/30/2012 : 7:27:59 PM Two months later and I still love the Braun. I wish I had listened to the reviews here years ago. I also wish I had listened to the advice to remove the guard on the Braun--it works so much better without it!
Progress report: Arms and legs are really smooth now with only sparse hairs showing up. Back is getting smoother (finally). Head and face are doing better without the guard. Scalp is finally feeling really smooth in some areas. Chest is the last to go--I've resumed epilating and will just have to endure any ingrowns.
It's been a year since I started epilating my head and several years since I started on my body (off and on).
Thanks again to everyone for all the information and encouragement--I'm loving it!!! |

The gears stripped out on my Emjoi Emagine for the second time (only seems to last me 3 or 4 months). It's still under warranty so I'll call for a replacement.
Meanwhile I picked up a Braun Silk Epil3/Legs at WalMart because it was the only thing I could find locally in a hurry. Instead of full metal disks it has little metal tweezers on the plastic disks. So far, it seems to work much better. It's a little slower, but gets more hair out. I've only used it twice on my scalp so I will reserve final judgment. However, it is vastly superior on my face.
Oh, the trials and tribilations of the quest for smoothness!
My lower arms and legs now have hardly any regrowth. My back is slower because I only have a friend to help me every two months. The chest is hairiest because it is so prone to ingrown hairs. I'm continuing to use the TRIA Home Laser on the remaining dark hairs until all I have left are the white ones. Then I'll have to bite the bullet and epilate again.
Thanks for the continued advice and support! I love being a hairless guy. |

Posted - 05/16/2012 : 4:16:23 PM Bummer--my epilator died after only four months. I have a call into the Emjoi tech support line, but while I'm waiting for them to cover it under warranty I'm going to have to buy another epilator. I suppose I ought to have a back-up anyways since I'm hairless from head to toe (yes, even eyebrows--and I LOVE IT!!!).
What's the latest recommendation? I'm looking through this thread and I see people talking about the Braun and the Panasonic Wet/Dry. |

Posted - 01/28/2012 : 01:25:49 AM New Epilator!
My old Emjoi epilator starting slipping gears after three or four years of intermittent use, so I ordered the new, bigger Emjoi Emagine for Men that BaltoBob told us about.
I LOVE IT!!!
I got it on Amazon for $89 with free shipping and it was only about $10 more than the red women's model.
This thing is great! It's more powerful and has 72 discs. At high speed I can use it anywhere on my body. It's much better on my scrotum and shaft (far less prone to grab) and around the base. It does a better job everywhere. I like the metal enclosure around the discs that is cold to the touch (you can even put it in the fridge). I'm also using it on my scalp and beard and it's vastly better.
Sorry to be out of touch--over the past couple of years I've been using the Tria home laser on key areas where I still had brown hair, mainly arms, legs, and pubes/abdomen. I've been back on the epilator religiously since early Nov. last year, including my scalp, beard, and eyebrows for the first time.
I'm now 100% smooth from head to toe, except for eyelashes. I've wanted to go for the Alopecia look for 20 years and never thought I would have the nerve. I'm absolutely thrilled with the result.
I highly recommend the new Emjoi4Men--it was well worth it. |

Posted - 07/19/2011 : 09:28:16 AM They have finally marketed an epilator for men. My BRAUN is about shot so I might give it a try. I think they make it in black for men and charge more for the red one thay sell for woman. http://www.emjoi.com/detail/EMJ+AP-18MS

Posted - 03/25/2010 : 7:07:33 PM Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. Been on holidays on orient beach. I thought I would rub that in. Any way I can use the panasonic everywhere just by pulling the skin taught. To be honest I only use the Panasonic on my neck, underarms, tummy and around my nipples. I only have 5 or 6 fine hairs on my cheast and I prefer to epilate than shave. Shaving doesn't stop the hair from maturing into thick mature hair. I am very hairless to begin with and use the Panasonic in the shower to reduce but not eliminate the hair on my tummy and underarms. (I don't want to look completely freakish by having no hair at all) I have so little hair on my legs naturally, people don't question my almost complete lack of hair on my stomach and cheast. I also have a very fine covering of hair on my arms that I just leave alone. I completely remove the hair from my neck (bumflum) just below my hairline so it looks nice and tidy. For my Pubes I use a $5.00 epiliator I bought off of Ebay. I remove everything from my butt to my belt line. I do the scrotum by pulling the skin taught and going for it. In the 3 or more years I have been epilating, I have only gotten skin caught once and it was only because I was careless and wasn't paying enough attention. It scared me more than anything and left no lasting cuts irritations or damage. The cheap model I got off Ebay does a much better job and I have fewer ingrown hairs. I find the Panasonic tends to give me more ingrown hairs. I think it has to do with having a stronger motor and dual speeds. Any way I keep my Panasonic in the shower and I use the Cheapo one dry. As far as irritation, I don't get much at all. I also use a Luffah to exfoliate every time I shower. You can buy them at the dollar store for a buck each. They are good for reducing ingrown hairs.
For the guy who is suffering from the torture of epilating, I initially waxed my self and started epilating only after the little fine immature started to grow back. It is much easier epilating the little fine hairs than trying to plow through all the mature thick growth. I would never do that or recommend it unless I really hated the person.
I love being smooth and like the epilating because It means I don't have to deal with shaving daily, I have no stubble even after several days and if I do wait for a couple of weeks before plucking again, the stubble is just fine baby hairs and It really doesn't take much to get things back under control.
Hope this helps

I see you use a panasonic epilator. I saw one at the store today but also so many others. I tended to the wet/dry for obvious reasons. My big question is that from the look of all the kinds, they look big and wonder how you can get into the area between your thigh and genital area?

Posted - 01/22/2010 : 01:56:57 AM Thanks, Smoothy--
After more than five months my chest is no better.
I'm now posting in the TRIA topic--I bought myself a TRIA home laser device and have started using it. I'll keep updating that over the next eight months.
Thanks for the encouragement. |
