Posted - 02/22/2005 : 08:01:00 AM Hello Everyone,
After doing some research it appears that the closest nude beach to me (Charlotte, NC) would be Apollo Beach in Florida.
From information I have read from a Google search this beach appears to be near New Smyrna Beach, but when I tried driving directions from Google it located Apollo Beach on the West Coast rather than the East Coast.
1. Has anyone been to the Apollo Beach that allows nudity and can you tell me where it is?
2. Does anyone know if I am correct that this would be the nearest nude beach to Charlotte, NC?
Thanks, Daryl |

Posted - 08/09/2010 : 02:23:02 AM Just an update for everyone here about parking. We arrived at the hotel around 2:30pm on Fri. and the room wasn't ready so went to check out Lot #5 situation. At the ranger gate sign stated that it was full but went down there anyway. There were several spots open at the time around 3:00 to 3:30. Weren't really prepared for beach but decided to walk down anyway to see where the C/O section started. Apollo is a wonderful beach and made it back there on Sunday Morning and spent some time there. |

Posted - 07/22/2010 : 4:15:19 PM Thanks Tansalir,
We are arriving NSB Friday afternoon, being a weekday I might have a better chance at getting a spot to park. I'll give it a try.... if not we'll hit it first thing Sat. morning |

Posted - 07/21/2010 : 07:26:45 AM Lot 5 is predictably full by 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. weekdays, and even earlier on weekends. Spots open up midmorning as some of the surf fishermen depart, but they're filled within seconds (literally). Some folks start leaving the beach around 2:00-ish, but I wouldn't count on seeing vacancies until after 3:00 p.m. If you're unable to park there's always Lot 4 where you can walk about 1/2 mile south of its boardwalk (toward Lot 5)......if no textiles are around the rangers probably won't bother you. |

Posted - 07/21/2010 : 01:42:04 AM Well it's official, the wife and I are having a "Nakcation" the weekend of August 6/7/8. We will be staying in NSB @ the Holiday Inn. We briefly went for our first time to Playalinda last year and loved it. I hope to get in a visit to Apollo also this time and make it a DBl Header weekend. Does anyone know what the parking is like in the late afternoon for Apollo Beach? Is it possible to do a late afternoon trip or is it better in the morning? |

Posted - 08/13/2007 : 5:58:33 PM We're in our 60's and spent 9 days at Apollo in June and stayed at a condo in New Smyrna Beach. We really liked Apollo, although you need to be an early riser to get a parking place, esp. on weekends. This parking limitation also limits the beach population. During our stay the couples/solo male ratio was about 50:50 and the solos trended toward the southern end of the beach. Some of the beach "regulars" we met definitely feel the crowd at Apollo is less flashy and more "conventional". But..in all fairness, we never made it to Playalinda. |

Posted - 08/13/2007 : 5:02:55 PM We are a 40-something couple. Our first nude beach experience was at Apollo. Both Apollo and Playalinda are great! There is much more parking at Playalinda. We have never gone on weekends, so the crowds have not been too big, but Playalinda had bigger groups. In our experience, there were more couples per capita at Playalinda and more solo males at Apollo. That may vary greatly depending on the day. By all means do try out Cypress Cove Resort. It's a great resort for newbies, and it's just great! |

Posted - 08/13/2007 : 4:16:43 PM We have (55 & 59) have tried both and prefer Apollo. Parking is a issue, we just get there early, which also means a smaller crowd. Try them both and see what works for you. |

Posted - 08/13/2007 : 1:45:31 PM Just a quick question to someone new to this site as well as nude beach going. Which beach, Apollo or Playalinda, is better for a middle aged couple rather new to social nudism? |

Posted - 08/03/2007 : 8:51:06 PM i noticed that no one has replied lately. but figured i would give it a shot. just got back from a relaxing time at appollo today. i do always feel a little weird going by myself. i mean i am a 26 year old male, so i know some people might think i am out of place. basically i am looking for people to go with..maybe make some friends with a similar interest. also wondering if anyone knows of any other good places in the daytona area to hang out where nudism is acceptable |

Posted - 08/23/2006 : 2:03:30 PM UPDATE: Called the Park Service. Apollo Beach WILL be open, however Lot #5 will be CLOSED. According to the woman I spoke to, the CO area of the beach will STILL BE OPEN, but must walk from Lot #4.

Posted - 08/23/2006 : 11:53:54 AM From the Press Release:
"... Other Canaveral National Seashore beaches, such as Apollo Beach, will not be affected by the closing of Playalinda Beach and will remain open ..."
This is a Press Release from last Summer (2005), so it would be a good idea to call the National Park Service at 321/867-0677 or the Wildlife Refuge at 321/861-0677 for current information.

Posted - 03/18/2006 : 12:11:27 AM sort of a late response here...but, my wife and i used to go to apollo and playalinda, and i (we) can vouch for playalinda being worth the extra 30 minutes or so of driving to get there. apollo is nice, but it has (or at least used to have) a heavily overloaded ratio of men to women. in addition, as of a couple of years ago, it also had a local reputation as a pick-up place for gay men. playalinda, on the other hand, was a little more balanced out in terms of gender participation, especially on the weekend. in addition, playalinda is much longer than apollo, which provides a nice stretch to get some exercise without having to turn around as often.
just my $0.2, though.
