We can all think of things that might make us uneasy in a clothing-optional/nudist setting, but it's one thing to imagine and another to have experienced.

The first time I went to a nudist area, it was a nude beach. I expected people of all ages to be there, but I was the youngest and no one else was even close to my age. I had the feeling that everyone noticed and was watching me the whole time. The second time I went, I no longer felt that way.

The first time I went to a nudist resort, it was a rustic, non-commercial one (won't name it) that also had full-time residents. The residents and regulars were very friendly so there wasn't a clique in that sense, but the residential area was strictly off-limits to non-residents. When the teenage residents stopped by the pool area, they were fully clothed for the most part, and this made me feel like an unwelcome guest in someone else's home, as if the residents were only nude in their own area and didn't want to be nude in front of strangers. It even made me feel like I wasn't a true nudist, and that I was just trying naturism while they were living it.

Later that night when it became chilly, except for a few people in the background, everyone else but me was dressed, and there I was at a nudist resort feeling uneasy about being naked. But it was cold, so I got dressed. When everyone went indoors they were still clothed even though it was warm enough to be nude, and I didn't feel comfortable undressing. At that point it didn't feel like a nudist resort anymore, until the next morning at least.

And maybe it's all in my head, or first-time jitters. I was also surprised at some of the comments the residents/regulars made about body parts. Harmless humor, but I didn't think anyone was supposed to pay attention to those areas, much less comment on them. It makes me wonder if anyone was paying attention to me in that way. Most of them were older and out of shape, but that doesn't mean you can't judge someone by the standards you used to have, or the standards you expect, and so on. I'm comfortable enough with myself to be naked, but I still wonder what others think of me: am I too small? does not being shaved make me stand out? what about being uncircumcised? am I too pale or do my tan lines show too much?

But I try to dismiss the uneasiness as normal paranoia and just assume that no one gives more than a passing glance or thought.

If you can relate to this, or have any uneasy experiences you'd like to share, please do.

Good suggestion. I favor the .45 ACP. Works every time.

Only thing to make me feel uneasy is nothing dangerous etc it is that moment when I am nude around a non nudist freind or family member for the first time even if they tell you that your nudity will not offend them etc I still fear their true reaction once I am fully nude and they finally see the real me etc.

I tend to agree Doug. The aerosol cans have a very limited range. Maybe one bear length, and that's way too close. Your .375 is effective. I note that this is the 100th anniversary of the Colt 1911. .45 ACP ought to work well on whatever is in my local woods.

Perhaps, but what time is that? Are we talking about May until October? And what about wolves or big cats? Several places now also have problems with wild pigs. Are we safe between dawn and dark? Some bears hunt in the day time.

I think perhaps I'll go with the metallic bear spray. Sandals, hat, and big iron on his hip. Good outfit!

The way the Bears were playing last Sunday against Detroit, I don't think Pepper Spray would have had any effect . . .

(sorry, could not resist. [grin])

Absent some kind of spray-either liquid or lead, CNN had a thing on bears awhile back.

The advice was based upon not being able to get away and being defenseless.

If a Grizzly, role up into a tight little ball protecting your head.

If a black bear, stand tall, spread out your arms and make yourself look bigger plus make a lot of noise.

With either type of bear, running is useless.

Trees are useless too. The black bear will clime up after you.

The best defense is to avoid the area during the times the bears will be out.

Bob,

The best thing to fend off a bear is Pepper Spray. It works on most anything you may run into out there.

I am becoming more concerned about bears, wolves, and other animals on my favorite nude hiking trail. This past summer there were numerous reports of hikers being attacked by bears in several western states near here, and wolves are making a big comeback not far away. I have thought about wearing a big iron on my hip while otherwise being attacked in the woods.

Maybe its excessively cautious, but I recall the Boy Scout Motto, "Be Prepared." Last summer a man was killed by a bear about 100 miles from my favorite trail. I'm thinking about it.

An average nudist resort never makes me uneasy, except for managers at large resorts.

It's not easy coming up with these invaluable philosophical insights that improve mankind, especially mankind who can't remember where their clothes are, and don't want to know.

We appreciate your encouragement!!

I hope you got the message and are just being sarcastic, because your reply couldn't be more arrogant. Look at my message again. Notice the capital letters.

I didn't put a gun to your head and force you to click on this post. If a topic makes you feel uncomfortable, just don't click on it. Common sense.
