I wanted to see what Google might reveal regarding the question: Are there more swingers than nudists in the world?

I set up a search for references to clubs of both categories, to measure the meeting places of each group.

There appear to be 3.8 million times that swinger lifestyle clubs were mentioned on the net, versus one-quarter of one million for nudist clubs.

Comparing the two customized searches on Google:

Swinger clubs - Including the terms "swing club" | "swinger club" | "swingers club" | "lifestyle club"
This search yielded 3,810,000 results

Nudist clubs - Including the terms "nudist resort" | "nude resort" | "clothing optional resort" | "clothing optional club" | "nude club" | "naturist club" | "nudist club" | "nudist colony"
This search yielded 756,000 results

Without the term "nudist colony" the nudist category represented a quarter million less results at about 520,000.

Does this mean swinger clubs are more interesting to talk and blog about, or are there simply more of them?

It's also interesting to see the swinger-related clubs appearing at the top of the nudist list. Is it keyword manipulation? That's a puzzle for Google to work out.

It also illustrates the great peril the nudist lifestyle faces in light of the swinger lifestyle's tendency to piggyback on nudism, combined with the Internet's ability to affect public perception.

Fact is, sex sells. They show up more in searches, because there are far more "curious" wanna be swingers out there, than curious wanna be nudists. Few people actually act on their swinger fantasies, because, one thing swinging and nudism have in common: the participants are generally more comfortable with their bodies.

I believe, particularly among young people, that swingers do outnumber traditional nudists. For most young people, if they're going to strip down, they're going to want to get wasted and sex up some strangers, too.

MOST parties I've been to (yes, swinger parties, my wife and I are active swingers), we've been the youngest people there! Average age has been between 40 and 55. And very FEW people were "wasted" Sober sex, is more fun that "wasted" sex! And, like the nudist community, a few become very good friends. The only difference, is we may have sex now and then :) .

Admim as search confirms, there are many swinging clubs/groups in comparison to nudist resorts/clubs, as there are many clubs/groups for just about every type of sexual orientation. Resorts/club's catering to nudists generally welcome all regardless providing everyone respects each others right to enjoy wholesome, non sexual nudism. As for the peril of swinging atop the nudist list,National organizations like AANR, TNS, INF have been actively trying to educate the public and Goverment for decades, not to equate sexism with this lifestyle and as witnessed by many here, they have, although it never ends, a strong voice of many is being heard.

There are certainly more "swingers" than active social nudists. However, I strongly believe that there are more publicly open social nudists than there are publicly open swings. The hypocrisy factor makes a huge difference. Such examples as the current South Carolina Governor, and Bill Clinton come to mind. (That's one D, one R. for fairness.)

I just think you have more swingers, period. and many of them are discreet about their activities. whereas nudists tend to be a lot more open.

Yeah, there's this stupid stigma attached to swinging. Like it's a bad thing to do. And it isn't. It's a sexual acceptance. Nudism is a body acceptance. But, society is more will accapt the body, then the sexaul aspects that go can go with it.

Social Nudism, has less of that stigma attached (I say less, because there are still ultra-conservatives out there that will always balk at even the non-sexual nature of social nudism).

I re-run the same search with the following results (May, 2nd 2010)

"swing club" | "swinger club" | "swingers club" | "lifestyle club"
This search produced 1.110.000 results.

"nudist resort" | "nude resort" | "clothing optional resort" | "clothing optional club" | "nude club" | "naturist club" | "nudist club" | "nudist colony"
It gave me 720.000 results

Are swingers shrinking???

Personally I believe, as nudist, that mingle swingers and nudists is not good: the former will ruin the latter.
The reputation of a true nudist is focused on body acceptance and family-oriented nudism. We bring our children to nudist places!!!
I firmly believe that nudists are people that see nudity as a non-issue. We do naked what other people do clothed.
But we do naked what other people do naked too. But it is private.
Nudists are just like average people, but like to do things naked.
Swingers are attached to the sexual component. I think they donīt see other people as people, but as fresh meat.
It is what I feel when I go to my favourite beach and some swinger couple arrives beside me.
They start staring on other people.
I donīt like it.
There are enough textile voyeurs hanging outside the beaches, but at least they are in a secure distance.
It happened last week. I felt uncomfortable.
I felt being observed all the while.
Sorry, but there are few swinger couples that can hide their impulses properly in a family oriented nudist environment.
They, many times, spoil the fun of nudism.

Thanks for the new data, Luis. That's quite interesting. So mention on the net of swinger clubs has reduced to one-third. Hmm.

The club we attend most often is a family oriented club. We have been going there so long, more than ten years, that we know our nudist friends so well that it is clear who swings and who does not. The swingers are in the minority but they are welcome to enjoy the nudist activities with everyone else because they are discreet with their swinging.
Whenever there have been incidents where some pushy swingers have visited the club, it has not been long before they were booted out, or they just stopped attending.
We have many families who bring their children of all ages, and we do not tolerate open swinger behavior at our club. Whatever swinger behavior that goes on behind closed doors is the business of the participants. That does not bother us. If and when it spills out of their private accommodations, as it has a few times, the participants have been banned from our club forever. They knew the rules.
Swingers have a right to enjoy their activities at the appropriate locations. We do not deny them that right.
Family nudists have the right to be in a family nudist environment without the swinging lifestyle being forced on them. It is also a matter proper human behavior and respect. Remember and respect that some swingers are nudists, but not all nudists are swingers. Everybody can find a pace for their preferred activities, and still respect the personal boudaries of others.

Well put, blavan. I'm pretty comfortable with swingers, but my wife is skittish around them, and recently we've discovered there are a lot of them at the club we go to. For many clubs I think it's an economic necessity to have swingers there; we just have to live together in peace. Most swingers are discreet once they know you don't partake. But there are always the exceptions. And with kids around, it gets more tricky.

So, the solution is to install swing sets at all nudist resorts, so they can say they have swingers there, to grow the number of members?

I do notice that the larger, more impersonal resorts seem to have more opportunities for someone, or a couple to engage in that practice. It would be probably more difficult to pull that off at a small resort. Word gets around in smaller places, and it's also true for smaller towns, where anonimity is difficult to achieve.

I can just see it now. As you approach the resort, you encounter a fork in the road. The sign has to arrows on it; one pointing to the swinging half of the resort, and another arrow pointing to the other fork that is the family- oriented half.

Or, the resort personnel who handle the incoming phone calls ask the people calling in, "Will that be swinging or non-swinging?"

Smaller resorts, in theory, would be an answer, but would not likely be pursued.

Nudist swingers are nudists who never got over their shame of nudity, and cover it with overcompensation.

My (unwanted, presumably) two cents.

Anything that can be done, can be done better while nude.

Now that swingers are more visible than in the past, it seems the general textile population just ASSUMES swingers and nudists are the same. And you can't educate people who don't want to be educated. Sometimes I just feel like throwing my hands up and saying screw it, if you think nudist=swinger, what can I do about that. Not care, comes to mind.

My sometimes fertile mind thinks about true family nudists suing swinger clubs who say they are nudist resorts. This type of case has been in courts many, many times, but for different reasons that are similar in nature.

If a case could be won, I would think the swingers would have to call the favorite facilities, "swinger clubs," with no reference at all to nudism.

It's almost like a Nevada brother calling itself a nudist resort, because the employees and clients are nude.

Better yet would be meeting of the head honchos from the nudist world and the swinger world where they would get together and come up with their own solutions as to the effective way of making sure the public knows the difference. The press would gladly put articles in the newspapers, TV, and radio about that sort of thing. It always makes for good press when this sort of unusual thing happens. I.e., let the press do our work at no cost to us.
