To me, that makes a lot of sense. No nudist would want to wear a soggy bathing suit. So having an AREA that was nude only is perfectly understandable. In that, nudist clubs and resorts could designate other areas as nude only, as well.
I think there's a lot of people out there that would find it a lot less weird if they were simply used to seeing nudity in non-sexual situations. Even the gawkers - if they were in the bar and saw a bunch of nude people gathered around the TV watching a sporting event, they might get what it's all about. The venues always have the right to refuse service and ask them to leave if it seems they're more than simply curious and/or they're not with a participant.
Baby steps.

Club Orient has always been 'Clothing Optional', and my wife an I always opt out. No problem, even though many of our friends do the pareo thing. In our case there is no problem. There are always enough naked people (we hope) to give the first timers some comfort. I can't speak for all of the nudists who might come to our place, but we hard core nudists are quite comfortable there.

i dont mind the c/o ,love to be nude but sometimes like to have clothes on,when at pool,beach,hot tub, or just relaxing nude for shure,also if c/o i can bring non nudist and the may like it and go nude !

I think it is all about how it comes across. We went to one resort and it was my wifes first time there and after about 20 minutes the owner confronted my wife adn told her it was a nudist resrt and she whould have to disrobe or we wou8ld have to leave. Talk about being a A**hole! She did but she was very put off by it. Then just last weekend we have not been to a resort in over a year so she was shy and only took her top off then later when she was ready to go into the pool she got undressed adn we had a really pleasant day the management was cool with it. In fact they went out of there way to be nice and reassuring to her. That is the right way to go about it. Catch more flies with honey,.. etc.

Just wanted to chime in here. Our camp's policy is on your first visit, it's "optional". But on your second visit, you have to be nude. Having said that, I have seen members (just a small few females), that wear some kind of wrap so as to not get to much sun. Also, you have to be nude in the pool or hot tub...1st visit or not. Think that first visit policy helps that there's no real pressure to be nude right away, and on that first visit you can take your time, and find out if you're comfortable with it or not.
I heard that the one south of St Louis, their policy is after noon you have to be nude. Not sure if that's policy or not.

If shade is not available, then we will wear a T-top or a towel over my shoulders, depending on the activity, after our sun limit. Resorts should not force us to use sunscreen or stay indoors. They should provide ample shade throughout the day at all facilities.

The times are changing,we know the risk of skin cancer and effects of over exposer to the uva and uvb rays, causes pre mature ageing and damage that isn't noticeable or detected until its too late. It could be devestating and much to be desired, anyone who's dealt with it, would say don't kid yourself its serious stuff. Its removal is no picnic and they wish they had known or had taken precautions, resorts will suffer in the long run if don't allow some to protect themselves from the Sun. Traditional nudists aren't gullible.

Well, it's unfortunate.
The place we frequent is clothing optional except in the water...for the most part, there's no difference between clothed and nude or partially nude. Everyone's pretty comfortable because we mostly know each other and make an effort to meet and get to know new people.
The sun exposure issue is important. We have a large pavilion near the pool with lots of chairs and tables.
Oddly, to me, the time when people want to cover up is at night. The sun goes down, and women find their sarongs. Sometimes they are tied from over the breasts, and sometimes around the hips. But as soon as one comes out, many follow. I've observed that it takes a particularly bold and dedicated nudist female to remain fully nude once the sun is down. And just one fully nude female will be enough for a couple more to lose their sarongs and towels. After an hour or two, everything settles and people just go on with the fun.
It shows me that there's still a great deal of body-consciousness and comparisons and even shame. We have a very friendly, family-oriented, even close-knit group...But these issues remain.
Given that, I'd probably favor enforced nudity. After a while, even I start to feel naked.

Sometimes at night, the males, as well as females, put on clothes. When most people are clothed, a nude person might feel out of place, even me.

I think it's more conformism than shame. I've seen it time and time again as well. Early in the morning or in the evening, some women will show up sarong-clad; and this will prompt other women to seek out clothing or keep something on. It works the other way around too; a group of semi-dressed teens, upon seeing a teen or two arriving completely nude, will suddenly drop their clothing.
Most people are reluctant in demonstrating leadership when it comes to nudity. They'd rather follow the crowd or what's most popular. And it does seem that women and teens tend to me more sensitive to this.

There seems to be more and more clothing at Solair. The people we tend to hang out with and we don't really get it. Lately it's gotten so that I'm surprised to see groups of nude people gathered around.

I would like to be able to go nude on my property with out someone calling the cops. We live in a small community, so we are surronded by neighbors who are senior citizen's or young people with small children. Sometimes I venture out at nite nude and sit on the patio for a while, very relaxing. I would also like to see some of my neighbors come out of the closet if I have any and be nude with me. I would also enjoy the company of my wife to join me. But she's not to keen of this lifesyle.

Maybe I am not a "true nudist" as I enjoy being nude almost 100% of the time at home but at a beach I enjoy being topless, and sometimes bottomless depending on my comfort level witthe people around me. Even saying I wasn't a nudist just a woman who likes to go topless on the beach, I would much rather be top free in a non judgemental environment than a regular beach.
