I believe unwanted erections (and discussions about them for that matter) have about as much to do with the human body as similarly unwanted pimples or a receding hairline (list ad infinitum...). If it has to do with the human body, I believe discussion of it should be welcome on a nudist forum, which should certainly find its own focus largely within matters of the human body itself in addition to policy and moral issues.

If we deny such natural (and frequently inconsequential) components of existence as erections, we may indeed present ourselves just as greatly "in denial" as those who would propose or support legislation which blindly restricts our activities by being over-broad in [ostensibly] regulating potentially harmful (non-nudist) activities. THEY, upon observing such denial, may apply observation of incidental erections to their already unreasonable heap of ammunition targeted at limiting rights or privileges of nudists, since we're not there to claim our erections as "not necessarily obscene".

The matter of erections themselves must resolve to moral consequence for us. As a Christian I am taught to withstand temptation, among other things. That doesn't mean I can somehow exempt myself from temptation, only that my love for God should provide me with wholesome alternatives to various tempting pursuits. If I get an erection, I go ahead and hope no one assumes I wanted it such that my next act could be a sexual one, nor that I'm passionately inclined to systematically achieve orgasm simply due to it having arisen.

Erections can represent not only temptation (I'm certainly not preaching "Puritanism" here) but also emotion. This has a very intriguing facet, almost like the toddler favorite "Teletubbies", we men may very well demonstrate certain emotions (I readily concede that these emotions are largely sexual in focus, but since when does having sexual emotions preclude me from being a nudist) through erection. I'd rather go about nudism expecting a general understanding of this, meanwhile reciprocating with proper and non-lewd "erection management" than to deny a significant part of my existence just to register the proper score among the nudist establishment. The fact that I am a human being, complete with emotions and sex drive is fine with me, and frankly inseperable from other transient aspects of my being such as a bad hair day, or incidental bad breath. All this helps me to be certain that if I see a fellow nudist with a wagging erection, I won't begin to assume that his next act will be an obscene one, and it is simply his responsibility to "capitulate" to that expectation to whatever degree necessary (roll over, jump in pool, head to restroom).

Denying DISCUSSION of erections, whether desirable or otherwise, is like trying to teach "driver's ed" without ever presenting the issue of skidding and emergency situational skills, while the consequences will not be quite so potentially grave.

I firmly believe that an "unwanted erection" is not something to fear (as many [as-yet-]non-nudists might assume). If we have a positive body image and are prepared to conduct ourselves in moral fashion, our response to our unwanted erection is ALSO not to be feared. Like, I'm not afraid that I will suddenly and decidedly de-volve to being a pervert, if by my very nature I happen to spot a beautiful woman (who as a general rule represents a qualitative sexual potential to my undeniably sexual human self) and my mind wanders (trying to establish this may not be voluntary) to the point that an erection results. While I wouldn't assume that she would appreciate it as a complement, and my response would be to prevent myself from appearing in lewd composure, I'm as inclined to deny my penis in all its forms as I am to deny my hair color, battle scars, level (or lack) of physical fitness, etc. If I were going to deny any of this, I should deny all of it, and this does not reconcile with my feelings as a member of the nudist lifestyle or practice. When I get an erection, no form of evil has necessarily moved in and begun to occupy me, only to leave when the erection subsides.

I have spoken as much to the issue of erections as to the issue of discussion of erections, but so much the better. I think more people need to take the "individual acceptance" concept the rest of the way to home (not aimed at anyone in particular, other than those who would find this discussion somehow offensive).

Seeking my role in opening the eyes of the world to the simple harmless pleasure of being naked in our great outdoors.

To the Forum Adminstrator:

Inasmuch as this is a FORUM, by all means, allow people to discuss this and/or any other topic that comes to mind.

As long as there is intelligent conversation, good manners and some good exchange of ideas going on, I would allow such discussion myself, were I the administrator of the forum.

Regarding either this or any other topic that anybody either does not like or is tired of, simply click away from the topic and click on to a topic that intresests you. Very simply done!

I dare say that nearly all males even considering the clothing-optional scene have this very issue "front and center" in their minds as the "make or break" issue as to whether they will even try it or not. I know that I did.

It took me until age 29 to "go for it" because of this very issue, and I first heard about our lifestyle from my then-best friend's sister who visited White Thorn Lodge in Pennsylvania ... and LOVED it. She went on and on about how she loved it. I was all of 7 years old when she told him and me about her visit.

I was fascinated! By age 13, I thought, "Oh, no! ..." as you can imagine. My whole point is that this ONE subject is "The Big One" (no pun intended) that is the "make or break issue" for many, many people as to whether they will try our lifestyle at all ... even once!

Hence, allow this subject to remain an opened thread. People who are tired of it don't HAVE to read it!

Happy New Year! Peace.

In my 30 years of nudism, I've seen only a couple of unwanted erections (easily fixed by rolling over or jumping in the water). Why discuss a "problem" that doesn't exist?

I am a newbie and have read it all. my concerns and interest in natural knowledge on this subject has been satisfied with all the different views. The idea of a consolidation of information is a wisw one.

I think it is important to cover this topic (no pun intended) to inform people thinking about going to a nude beach or resort for the first time. It was that "fear" that kept me from going sooner. As I started reading more and more about the subject from other nudists...it made me feel more comfortable. Just to hear..."hey, it happens...don't worry about it...just jump in the water, turn on to your stomach, carry a towel etc..." So the first time I went, I kept a towel handy just in case, but like most people have said...it rarely happens once you are enjoying the freedom of being clothes free with others doing the same...it just seems natural and you relax and enjoy. I don't read these kinds of posts as often now as it is no longer a "fear" of mine, but I still like to check from time to time to hear other stories and opinions.

I thought being a nudist meant that we where more understanding and open about our bodies. this is a subject that is on every new naturalist's mind. will i get an erection or will I get kicked out of a resort because of an erectionor banned. If there isn't a place to discuss these thoughts whats the use of having an open forum?

We're very much opposed to "banning" discussions. We're nudists, remember? We're the ones who are supposed to be open and tolerant. The "textiles" point fingers at us because we "run around naked"! Are we now going to become as intolerant of others as they are of us? Let people post and discuss. If you don't want to read about erections or the latest happenings at - - (or any other club), just don't open that thread. There should be room enough under our tent for everyone.

I do agree that everything should be open to discussion, but I have the sneaking suspicion that many of these "erection" threads (and how many do we need, btw?) are started by guys who have never been to a nudist resort/beach and just like to talk about erections. As I have stated before, erections at nudists venues are VERY rare, but fear of them is fairly common among textiles when they discuss nudity.

Wow 4 pages on closing a subject should tell you this is a hot topic in the nudist community or it would have died a natural death. As for the long time nudist, I think they forget that when you are going to a resort or beach for the first time you really do not know what to expect of yourself or others (and for a male erections are part of that equation). This forum and these topics are very useful at providing comfort to those taking their first step into a brave new world.
