I am looking for places that I can go where I can go hiking for a couple of miles and then pitch a tent and spend the night. I would also love it if there was water involved (a stream or waterfall) where I could skinnydip.

I have been looking and it seems like there are naturist clubs where people get together, but I am looking for someplace a little more remote and natural.

I am willing to go as much as one to two hours from NYC metro area. Can anyone help???

Also, what is the policy for being caught nude in a national park in NY/NJ or CT.

Cheers-

bklyn, The easiest way to see what the laws are for each state is to go to TNS's website at http://www.naturistsociety.com and click on Resources and then click on NAC.

Much federal land is given over to the state/county/locale in which it is located.

Please be careful. There are parks that do have hiking trails as well as bodies of water and tenting areas. One park in Oklahoma (Oaklake Trails) has 419 acres.

Thanks Cheri-

I guess that answers that question. It seems like there is ample room in the law of all of my neighboring states to arrest me for nudism on a wilderness trip.

I know it is half way around the planet, but certain parts of Europe are suitable for this.

By now, it may be of little use to bkln, but in general I think hikers and campers who are well away from popular pathways (like the Apppalachian Trail) stand little chance of interference from any law enforcement authority. Remember that most of their work is responding to complaints; if you are five miles form anybody else, who will complain about your skin showing?
I have on several occasions spent days or weeks backpacking in remote areas (some Federal lands, some state) and will often spend from daybreak to supper without bothering to put clothes on. Naturally, one must be cautious as ever in the wild, about all the usual hazards - from poison ivy to snakebite - but I'm supposing here that the camper is experienced in those matters.
All life involves risk - you have to assess the probabilities. I. for one, would be more worried about some camper being careless with a match than about what they are wearing.

Not ALL incidents involve complaints. We found that out when I used to rent a group campground at a National Forest in North Carolina.
