AANR-Florida's winter meeting was very well attended. Forums were held to discuss naturism on public lands with representatives from The Naturist Action Committee and BEACHES participating. We also had updates from AANR-Florida's lobbyist in Tallahassee regarding several potential pieces of legislation which we see as a threat to naturists and naturist clubs. We will be monitoring these items closely over the next several months. We also met with a core group of naturists who are interested in establishing a clothing optional beach in Pasco County. They have identified a potential location which we visited along with representatives of BEACHES and TNS. This is an effort that we will work on collaboratively like we did at Blind Creek Beach in supporting the local naturists to secure the beach. There is also an effort to establish a clothing optional beach at Casperson Beach near Sarasota and there is interest among naturists to find a location in northeast Florida. AANR-Florida and other naturist groups will work together to support these efforts.
The weather has been too cold to get naked in north and central Florida over the last few weeks. However, the Mid-Winter Festival is being held in Loxahatchee Florida at SunSport Gardens. This is a great annual event with workshops, entertainment, and field trips to Haulover Beach and Blind Creek Beach. They are also planning nude canoeing. The festival starts on 2/11 and runs through 2/16. On Saturday 2/13 I will be conducting a workshop on "Working for Naturist Beaches in Florida" as well as participating in a roundtable discussion of what is happening in naturist groups in Florida. On Valentine's day there will be a discussion "On Where to Go Nude in Florida". There are over 100 workshops to choose from, check it out at www.sunsportgardens.com
Also mark your calendars for Saturday March 5, 2016, from 9:00a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunnier Palms Nudist Resort at 8800 Okeechobee Rd in Fort Pierce will be hosting an open house, all day fees will be waived. All you need to participate is a government issued photo ID and a towel.
