Maybe your BF just wasn't thinking and used bad judgement about his choice of jokes, or maybe you need to stick your foot up his butt. But that's for you to decide.
In the bad old days of clinical training, professors would said (after a particularly bonehead move), "Are you stupid, or is it that you just don't care?"
While the question can be overused and inappropriately applied, this is one situation where it might be properly addressed to the perpetrator of this destructive hoax whom you continue to charitably identify as your BF...
