I cant believe you all forgot about the best treat in the summertime. Nothing better than ice cream on a hot summer day!

Best stuff was that homemade kind where you had to crank that dang machine....my father in law knew how to get me to visit his daughter....sure he can come over and visit...you go help your mother in the kitchen and he can help me crank this ice cream machine.
He did let us eat ice cream together after dinner!

My favourite summer foods ? Living in the middle of the Mediterranean sea we are surrounded by many different kinds of fish, cheap and available in the local shops. We love fish with salad about twice a week, alternating with pasta or rice dishes.Having two small kids we try to set the example to eat healthily.

My favorite food growing up in Long Beach, LI, NY was frozen custard, better than ice cream. Kohl's is a similar product - only saw that in Greenville, North Carolina where I lecture each fall.

Thanks CopperQuail for the explanation. I think lots of fruits and veggies are always good for the body.

a good recipe for grille and kitchen for a bunch of people or just extra meals is hunters chicken. get a 5 lb. package of chicken thighs, which are inexpensive, clean them and them barbecue them. in a separate pot, you put crushed tomatoes, peppers( i find that red peppers soften more quickly than bells), onions, carrots, herbs and spices to taste, mushrooms, a can of tomato paste to thicken up the sauce. then put on low heat fr 3 or 4 hours. on average, with 14-16 pieces per packages and 2 pieces per person, you get food for 8.
get a loaf of italian bread, and a small piece will help sop up the sauce.
easy to prepare, and a quick cleanup.

Its nice to see a lot of the men taking over the cooking chore by grilling outside. It is really nice not having having to cook over a hot stove in the summer time.

for the vegetarians out there, youcan grill many veggies or barbecue/stir fry them in light olive oil, and season according to preference.
tastes great.
and fruits and juices are good for replenishing vitamins and preventing dehydration.
as far as the beach is concerned. i usually bring fruit, a salad and lots of liquids.

Yes, and non-vegetarians are also allowed to grill vegetables (I generally grill vegetables in addition to meat) . Fresh fruits are great at the beach , we always take some in our cooler.
