We're new to this and looking for nice resorts to hit during a road trip from SF to SD. We've heard Ventana is way nice, but it's just a C/O pool and very pricey. Been to - - - and really like that sort of place. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

If you like the wide outdoors, try De Anza Springs. Not - - - , but not rustic either. An entire desert state park (almost as big as some eastern states) to hike in. Friendly people who are real nudists. It's about 80 miles east of San Diego.

CopperQuail,
De Anza is on our list to try this summer. It'll probably be pretty warm down there when we do get a chance to visit, but hey, we go to Palm Springs in the dead of summer...so I think we can take De Anza.

I was just out at De Anza for the first time last weekend. Wow!! I used to go to Swallows so I am used to a smaller version I guess. Over 500 acres 2 pools, one indoor, two tennis courts, volley ball court, big rec center full bar in the club dances every weekend man nice place. One of the best thingsis that it does back up next to the largest state park in California plenty of trails to hike or bike.

Thanks for all the info!! Y'all are so well informed! How was Terra Cotta Inn? And it sounds like we'll have to check out Deanza too!

Terra Cotta Inn is my wife's favorite place to visit at this time. It's small with a friendly crowd. You will get different opinions of the owners but we have never had a problem with either Tom or Mary Clare. The manager, Candy, is a sweet young lady and they have a few others there on staff that are great also.
Only 17 rooms so you can meet just about everyone. We've been several times and had pot lucks with the other guests. The rooms are nice and clean but now luxurious. They've been doing alot of needed improvements and the place is great for a first timer. It's clothing optional and so that particular partner just trying it out is able to do so at their own speed.
Check out the website or PM me for more detailed information.

i think the best place in california to visit would be us... lol only kidding
Gray Whale Cove State Beach, Montara CA. This traditional clothing-optional beach, located at Devil's Slide between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay, has some of the most interesting topology of the northern California coast. Park in the lot on the inland side of Highway 1 exactly 1¼ miles north of the Chart House Restaurant in Montara, cross the highway and walk down the gated driveway, use the restrooms and descend the 145 stairs to the beach. The beach is clean and wide, and the surrounding cliffs block the wind and make for interesting scenery.

I agree with Jasper, Nudbie:
MYSTIK OAKS IS INCREDIBLE! I just spent a heavenly Labor Day weekend there; I plan on doing a full report on it, as soon as I get the time...

I also strongly recommend San Onofre:
Of the three beaches I've visited- or considered visiting (Black's Beach, More Mesa, and this one), it's got the shortest hike to it- and has a very friendly, relaxing atmosphere.

At the risk of being noted for reviving old topics, I will do so, with my World War II flak vest firmly in place.
This is from the group I joined recently -- The River Dippers of Sacramnto and all points around.
Naturist Action Committee
San Onofre Beach
In June of this year, a California state court of appeal ruled in favor of the California Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) in its appeal of a Superior Court's ruling from 2008 that had favored naturists. The Naturist Action Committee and Friends of San Onofre Beach subsequently sought a ruling from the California Supreme Court. The California Supreme Court declined to hear the case. The appellate ruling was initially unpublished, but at the request of DPR, the appellate court later published the ruling. NAC requested that the ruling be de-published. However, the California Supreme Court refused NAC's request to de-publish. At issue in the lawsuit was whether DPR has followed proper procedure in abruptly ending the application of the Cahill/Harrison regulation at San Onofre State Beach. Cahill/Harrison is long-standing and well-known means for managing and regulating the clothing-optional use of portions of state parks.
Tickets for nudity are possible at all California State Parks. The Supreme Court's refusal to hear the case allows the possibility that rangers may immediately begin issuing citations for nudity under Title 14, Section 4322 of the California Code of Regulations. Because the appeal ruling was published, this threat applies not only at San Onofre State Beach, but at all units of the California state park system. The court decision is a tremendous setback, but the battle has not ended. The Naturist Action Committee is carefully considering the details of each of its remaining options and the ramifications of each.

I'm a member of the Friends of San Onofre Beach. I've been away from this board from sometime and during that time...this situation kinda came and went. I would have thought that this information was shared here already...but you do have it right.
The update is this; San Onofre State Beach, Trail 6 is still being used by nudists to date. No citations have been issued but that doesn't mean that a over zealous ranger won't do just that.
According to reports, quotes in the paper and face to face conversations with our group's president...nude sunbathers will be asked to dress first. If there is compliance....no citation...if there is refusal, then a citation will be given.
The plan, if a citation is given, is to contact the president of the group, who is also a lawyer, and to fight the citation in court. There is also more planning and strategy meetings being held for the next move.
I will keep this board updated as those come in.
San Onofre State Beach Trail 6 is still being used nude. If you plan on visiting, take direction from the regulars and don't be afraid to go up and ask what's going on. There may be some new developments that they are aware of or signals they have come up with to alert those that a ranger is headed down the beach.

You can always visit popular "Black's Beach" in the La Jolla area of San Diego. It's not a resort but a beautiful beach under 300 feet of bluffs.
Nudity is tolerated at this beach and it's been tolerated for many many years. There is free parking in a dirt parking lot but then you have to make your way ALLLL the way down to the beach.
It's worth a visit - the price is right.

You have to go to Pirate Cove, near Avila Beach/San Luis Obispo. It's a bit of a hike down to the beach, but WELL worth it. It's my wife's and my favorite beach in CA!
