I don't know what's more exciting, that they removed a "modesty" clause from the bill, or that it almost passed with a unanimous vote. The big question is, however, will other state laws restrict how much an Oklahoma woman can reveal herself in public while breastfeeding, or will she gain the right to feed her baby without restrictions?

This is definitely victory for both naturists and nursing babies alike, as research time and again proves that breast milk is the healthiest form of food for an infant. Now they just need to get it through the Senate and get it signed.

tollbooth,

Isn't it strange in a so called educated society that we need a Bill so a woman can breast feed her child without fear of prosecution!!??

There has been this increase in discussion these past few years about a mothers right to breast feed their children in public with being harrassed. Restaurants have changed policies to allow breastfeeding, Bills being introduced...
Breast feeding mom's are becoming a powerful group...Good for them!

Not really. There should be laws against eating, right? Oh wait...this law is DESIGNED to remove laws against eating.

Yes they are. They really are one of our natural allies, and I think it would do both parties good to attempt form ties with them.

That is totally rad that they would consider letting ladies use them for what they are for! How forward thinking of them. Why didn't God think of that? Wait, He did.

This shouldn't even be an issue. Nothing is more natural than a woman feeding her baby, regardless of what she feeds or what kind of container it's in. If men did the breast feeding it would never have gotten to the point where the lawyers had to get involved.

On a similar note...

Colorado signed a similar law last month (April).

DENVER -- Gov. Bill Owens has signed a law making it legal for a mother to breast-feed an infant in public in Colorado.

The new law, which took effect immediately upon Owens' signature Friday, specifies that "a mother may breast-feed in any place she has a right to be."

The measure co-sponsored by Sen. Deanna Hanna, D-Lakewood, Rep. Pam Rhodes, R-Thornton, also says breast-feeding "is a basic and important act of nurturing that should be encouraged in the interests of maternal and infant health."

It really grips me that you have to have a law okaying breast feeding in public. I always had a baby blanket to throw ove my shoulder if I was in a crowded place. I breast fed all three of my kids, and no one every objected to me breast feeding in public. Sorry to be on my soap box, but I think that is just plain stupid!

Kim, you're not alone in your opinion, and I expect I'm not the only man who feels the same as you.

On a somewhat related note, I have recently found some web sites promoting relaxing or eliminating of legislation prohibiting top-free dress by both sexes. I understand that New York, of all places, is pretty advanced in that respect after women challenged the old law by petitioning the legislature as well as by acts of peaceful civil disobedience. With luck and some hard work, in a few years it may be possible for for anyone, man or woman, to be top-free in public, similar to what Toronto has right now.

Skeptic, were you referring to any of these sites? Here are a few I dug up on a google search:

http://www.tera.ca/
http://pages.ivillage.com/topfreealabama/ (forgive the cheesy sound bite )
http://www.007b.com/topfreedom.php

BTW, that last site's photo gallery has some very educational notes: http://www.007b.com/breast_gallery.php

I agree, I think it is silly to require a law. On the other hand, think of it as protection for nursing mothers. Someone who is way to easily offended will get upset in a public place that the baby is hungry and feeding.

There is also a webring for topfree web sites. The sites I visited were all members of the web ring so it was easy to hop from one to the other. The web ring can be found by doing a Yahoo or Google search for "topfree web ring". This will take you to the web ring hub where there are also links to various nudist and naturist web rings.
