I've found it interesting that nudists insist on wearing clothing or towels when they eat together. It seems fairly universal, even at different resorts, or with non-landed groups. I refrain from being covered, myself, but feel like the odd-man out. As it is, I feel really nude at a nudist resort when I'm the only one nude. Perhaps, there should be a nudist-nudist resort where people wear nothing during eating meals.

I have tried to guess, or develop a gut feeling for the reason for covering up for meals. Is it that the human body is not good enough to be seen, or is the body too repulsive, thus killing everyone's appetite? Maybe it is just a California habit. I am not sure.

If anyone would care to cast some light on this quaint habit, I would be grateful.

We went to Cypress cove for part of our honey moon. Because Florida people can't handle weather below 70. we were the only ones nude most of the time . but its a very friendly place . they let use their pintonk equipment after explaining the rules without supervision. invited me to play glof sharing their clubs. but I turned that down. One of the residents teased us the day we left because we had to leave and finally there wasn't a clothed person around except for staff

Before we first visited Cypress Cove, I signed up for their weekly email. Thursdays are always "nude night" at the Lakeside Restaurant and nude diners get a free glass of house wine. I thought that odd until we stayed there. It's a nudist resort! Why do they need a nude night? While The Cove is just about the nudest resort we visit, most diners at Lakeside wear something. Thursday night is the only night the majority are nude.

We spent a weekend at a popular resort in Georgia and while the pool area is nude, the rest of the resort is mostly clothed. One evening we walked into the restaurant nude to check the menu and we were the only ones nude. People actually stopped what they were doing to gawk!

Papagayo is truly unique. At lunch, most everyone is nude as they are coming in from the beach. Our experience is that at dinner, guys are mostly nude and the women are either topless or bottomless.

Dang ... we miss that place! The tentative plans are to return in '17! Fingers and toes crossed!!

We've visited both types of "resorts," are members of one that is more mobile home park/campground than an upscale resort. I think the nudist clubs are trying to nudge their way into the "resort" category but for the most part, they are still quite campgroundish. That's okay with us, we enjoy that aspect and if we didn't care for it, we wouldn't be members but ... we also crave some luxuries and amenities some of the clubs do not offer.

We enjoy having a nice dinner in a restaurant atmosphere and less of a diner atmosphere ... not all the time, just occasionally. If that means getting dressed and heading out of the compound, so be it. But, we go to a nude club or resort so we don't have to wear clothes and weather permitting, we prefer not to wear clothes no matter what we are doing and that includes dining.

What I find amusing is that nudists tend to be so critical of other nudists that do nude things they themselves don't do or will not do ... like eating a meal. We don't separate or distinguish between what we do nude and what we don't do nude, at a nude resort. This is the way we live at home and if we are at a place where we can live as we do at home, we do exactly as we do at home, at the nude place ... within reason.

i find the places i refer to as resorts ( fancy clubs) are different than those i refer to as camps ( you know the mom & pop clubs) where you leave your clothes at the gate - ok in your car or camper and don't put them on till you leave or it gets cold. some of the resorts or the fancy ones i've even seen people in pool and hot tub in bathing suits and yes in the dining area very few nude . might be me but i don't care for resorts or fancy stuff and when i go to a nudist camp i go for comfort also known as nude.

Those stains are hard to get out of birthday suits!

The resorts we have been to most people eat naked, the 80% that MrsAZ talked about is about what we have seen.

Interestingly...I was at a resort once (BA) when it was announced that a chef was visiting and was preparing pasta for dinner. Now I don't normally eat at the resort but I couldn't resist a good plate of pasta and meatballs. Thinking the "dressed when eating" rule was universal, I went back to my car to put my clothes back on.

It turned out I was wrong. As I proceeded to the "cantina", I suddenly realized that everyone else there was nude. One friendly nudist made a humorous comment about my textilism; and I panicked a little and wondered if I should run back to the car to undress again. But it was too late. I sat down fully dressed next to nude people and shamefully (LOL!) ate my pasta and meatballs.

I've also been to nudist get-togethers where everyone ate nude. So I wonder if it's a "rustic thing" where nudists are a little more determined to do everything nude(?)

Glad to say ... we just spent a long weekend with our close friends in AZ, at their winter home. ALL meals were eaten together and all of us were naked! As I recall, all but one napkin was on a lap ... the Prof's! She's quite the etiquette follower! hahahahahaha

I'd say it's about 5050 at turtle lake in Michigan. when people are eating breakfast in the club house. but lunch at the pool everyone is nude.
we normally cook and eat in our camp site.

There are some tremendous advantages to eating/drinking naked. I once spilled red wine all over myself while camping with friends at a nudist resort. Since I was naked, a very quick shower put it all right.

And yes, it is very odd to feel out of place being naked at a nudist venue. I was once at what used to be a nude beach (which over the years has become "clothing optional") and couldn't find any naked people. At last I happened upon a nude couple and asked, "Is this the nude section of the nude beach?"

I personally never understood the napkin in the lap thing myself. I guess it just keeps it off of the table, but I don't get why people spread it out on their lap.

Haha. Touche. I rarely eat soup.

But seriously, I never see people do this at home, but they do in restaurants. Maybe it's because when at home, they can just change if they spill their food on them, I don't know.

Talk about feeling outta place, while naked, at a nude resort ... The Prof and I visited a resort that can not be mentioned here. We got up in the morning and headed over to the restaurant for breakfast. It was chilly outside but nice and warm inside the lobby/restaurant/bar/sports bar areas.

We put on pareos/sarongs and headed over and sat at a table. We both unwrapped our wraps and were naked. We looked around and the 8 or more couples seated in the restaurant were fully dressed and staring at us. The Prof felt uncomfortable and slipped her wrap back on and the waitress came over and I asked ... "can we be naked in here?" She said ... "of course. Don't pay any attention to those others ... they are the weird ones!"

Made sense to me!
