I agree, I've read a few articles saying we are the laughing stock of most of the world because of the length of our electoral season. As I recall the average electoral season in most of the world is around 90 days as many countries call elections when there is a no confidence vote in their parliament etc.
Not only do most of the candidates view the presidency in that way but congress does too. Look at how many are career politicians jumping from a lower office to a higher office along the way working to get more power. At the same time the parties have way too much power as representatives no longer represent their constituents but instead represent their party.
I would love to see a law where only registered voters can donate to a candidate or cause thus eliminating PACS etc. Sure businesses etc could encourage people to donate but the individual would have to make the actual decision and donation and show up on fund raising reports. Sure would make the whole process a lot more transparent. |

Only Congress can propose and pass (or not pass) bills. The president has no legislative powers, per Article 2 of the US Constitution. The concept of a president proposing laws reminds me of the FDR era, where he wanted the other two branches of gov't to fall under his control. I'm trying to recall the concept of a president proposing laws, with the congress little else than a rubber stamp for the president, before FDR, but little to nothing comes to mind.
The president's duties and powers are few and enumerated. The idea that the president is in control of most everything is a specious one at best, yet we have been suckered into that kind of thinking.
If the president had the power of proposing laws to pass, the desire to pack the US Supreme Court, and of course, run the executive branch (as happened during the 1930s), we would have nothing less than a dictatorship.
Pertinent to the topic, though, I think most Americans would love to see a shorter political season in the presidential election year. By the time November rolls around, you could well wonder how many Americans are so turned off by the whole process, that they stay home on election eve, skip voting, and watch a movie on TV.

Everybody should vote Libertarian. That would give the TV news folks a lot to discuss and digest. They'd all be dumb-founded. I can just imagine the looks on their faces as election night proceeds through the evening.
Fortunately, we 320 million people are the ones who make this country work.
It looks as though it's Trump v. Clinton. Americans are good at their jobs, but not so good at choosing politicians, with some exceptions here and there.

most of our original congress were farmers, ran the general store or some business in town and after six months in congress went home - now they don't go home till they are planted six foot deep and have never worked a real job in their lives. one four or six year term and your gone and as for the prez and vp one six year term and your gone. oh and these politicians in congress that want to be the prez need to resign the office they hold what a crock they hold office get paid a salary for a year or so they do nothing but campaign to get a better job - yeah try that at your job and see how that turns out. |

What I'd like to see is that EVERY office whether it's an elected or appointed office come with term limits. I would also like to see that with the exception of President/Vice President/Governor that all of those who are holding a public office is paid a token salary so that they MOST keep a day job. As it is my understanding that our founding fathers never really intended for politics to be a "full time" job.
In my opinion the term limits qualifier would also apply to lobbyists.

They have commentary from columnists of each persuasion, although nothing from the libertarian standpoint. Just about every poll taken is at this website. They also have video excerpts from talking head shows.
Amaze your friends with your political knowledge and prowess by frequenting this website. But, make sure you come back to nudist-resorts.org after visiting there. Get your priorities straight!! Haha.

the most important thing to remember is that they are all power hungry and really their best interest is their own and gaining more power. if we look at how our nation was set up the original colonies had the real power and the feds were only suppose to keep us safe and now the feds are taking all the control from the states. |

One thing I notice is that no matter who is in charge of what in the gooberment, my life and those around me never changes because of the politicians. We could change from a Reagan to a Bernie Sanders for the White House in a day, and despite that radical, although hypothetical, change, my life would not differ one iota. I'll still have the same problems and successes. It's up to me to make a difference in my life.
Sure, we all have our own political preferences, and it's good to keep an eye on our gov't.

Actually, I think we've put the PACs and Super PACs in charge. People have the right to vote but businesses, PACs, and the media are controlling the elections. I think we need a law were only individuals can donate to a candidate or organization pushing a proposition. Sure businesses could ask their people to donate and support a candidate or cause but it would be the individual that actually does so. |

what really irks me about elections as of late...seems most voters do not have a clue about thier chosen canidate...just "like" them....without any thoughts about canidates qualifications or background......I feel we are now under the control of the least educated..least intelligent masses.... |

I couldn't agree more ... the campaigns start too damn early, go on forever ... no wonder there is such little voter turn out ... everyone's sick of the politics by the time the election rolls around.
It's a lot like going to the store in summer and seeing all the Christmas stuff starting to fill the shelves! One holiday just rolls right into the next and the next.
I have to agree with Doc. I've often said that the vast majority of people in this country and usually somewhere in the middle of the two parties. We seem to have a mix of this party on some issues and that party on other issues ... the majority doesn't seem to really take a definite right or left side. I find that many of our friends have "switched sides" but their politics haven't really changed ... it's just on that particular issue or on various issues.
