Posted - 06/15/2011 : 2:32:46 PM Unfortunately, the site doesn't have a Peru topic (yet! -- may I suggest one?), so I am posting this here.
Spending a lot of time in Peru now, and even though the country is Catholic and nudity is frowned on, they are liberal to a great degree. That, combined with police who are not very aggressive about doing their jobs all the time -- and willing to accept a few soles for looking the other way -- does create an underground for nudists if you know where to look.
Anyone have any experience with nudism in Peru? I am just here a few months and already find that it is pretty good, although without all the choices I had in US states. However, there are less restrictive social taboos, specifically as pertaining to family nudism and home nudity, so it is all a balance of pros vs. cons.
Hablemos de Perú!

Posted - 06/29/2011 : 09:48:02 AM Looks like things have changed. I did some checking and despite it starting as a hoax, the locals have gotten more and more people to start going. There's been some news coverage of it (an excuse to show topless girls on Peru TV? Get on it! LOL)
I may have to head up there when it gets warmer and check it out. I will report back!

Posted - 06/18/2011 : 10:48:21 PM Well ... sorry to hear Chimbote was a hoax. I haven't been to Peru in many years, but the culture seemed quite conservative. I'm sure there are deserted beaches farther south in Ica or Arequipa, but talk about the middle of nowhere! |

Posted - 06/18/2011 : 6:42:08 PM That beach was never "official" -- that was a false news report that was later debunked. Since then, though, a handful of people have tried to get Chimbote operating as a nude beach anyway, even with a little pool and "resort" area (TINY), but no one ever goes there. It's too remote and the beach itself is just terrible.
What I have found is some of the further ends of the beaches to the north or south of Lima one can be nude at because the police are so lazy and corrupt they don't enforce anything... but it's not the same as an dedicated nude beach. That's what I am looking for, but so far it seems there aren't any!

Posted - 06/15/2011 : 5:51:49 PM There is an official nude beach in Chimbote, about 250 miles north of Lima. I haven't been there, so I can't tell you much about it except what's in the news.
