I'm a newbie but excited about my upcoming trip to Miami in July. Will be there with my wife on a business trip for her, vacation for me! I want to visit Haulover and have read interesting posts. I just don't want to appear out of place. Since it's my first time, I expect to be curious and looking around but don't want to be taken as a 'dirty old man.'
I'm 55, good shape and not overweight, look quite younger. I just want to fit in.
Any suggestions? (my wife has no clue about this)

I just mean for me Fireprof that my own alert/stress level goes up if I were to be rinsing off at the public showers at a full textile beach area where there are no nudists at all and I am rinsing off in my suit that is actually undone so I can rinse off well and am plainly visible semi nude to others, where my level is less at a nude beach area that borders a textile section, my local beach is like that you can be walking around nude and see many textiles who walk the trails above that view the beach as well as those who come down to see what a nude beach is like.

But you can be considered nude in public on a "public" beach ... even though it's a tolerated or traditional nude beach.

When we had our nude beach, San Onofre Beach, Trail 6, here in So Cal, we were very often in view and seen up close by textiles or bathing suit clad people walking up and down the beach.

Many, many times we encountered the clothed "public" at the water's edge and even had some great conversations with some. A couple of times, once with two young females and another with a younger couple, we convinced them to go their stuff and come join the rest of us because they seemed interested and they did just that!

At some of these tolerated/traditional nude beaches, there is always the curious, voyeurs and gawkers that look down onto that section of beach ... so we can still be considered to be in the public's view ... but

I do understand what your opinion of public view means to you!

Loves being naked. Plays well with others!

Hi Bob, I think I did a poor job of expressing myself. Thank you for discovering it. I should have said, I undressed just outside my car, and threw my clothing into the car, in the parking lot, adjacent to the office at the parking lot. That was the easy part. As I walked over to the pool, I wondered how I would interact with other members there. At this, my first time, I had not been around nude people. Took some getting used to. I had way too much experience with suited swimmers, wonderful people that they were or are.

Warmskin I usually undress at the car and when I get to the pool or wherever I just flow in, how many times do you see someone walk into the pool area dressed and when disrobing they seem to atrack a audience.

I was fine on disrobing my first time in a public facility, right up until I strolled over to where the nude people were at the resort swimming pool. While undressing, it felt weird to undress in a parking lot, in view of the person who checked me in through the gate.

I didn't know what to expect. My ability to be mostly oblivious to the odds against me certainly helped out, though. As I walked up a little hill to get to the pool, I could hear conversations, loud talk, and other signs people were around. It wasn't until I arrived at the pool that I could see the other nude folks. Then it hit me! What do I do or say? A stroke of genius hit me, and I said something like "hello" to the first person I encountered. If got a lot easier after that.

Thankfully, the first time came and went. I must say that I felt more nude the first time because of the novelty of it. I could contrast is quite heavily to my experience growing up with a pool in the backyard, where there were nothing but swimsuits, and the people in them, of course. A bit of culture shock entered into the intitiation into nudism.

I never felt uncomfortable at a nudist club or beach I think it goes back to my early years in PE class at junior and senior high schools and even the ymca, after the first shower with your peers it was no big deal and when it was with a mixture of male and females I just saw it as all of us being nudist. At the beach when you have those textile folks walking by I just decided that they were envises of nudist but weren't brave enough to join in, if that wasn't the case why didn't they walk the other end of the beach where nudity was forbidden. I just don't understand this fear thing we are adults its not like your parent will catch you and send you to your room or will they.

No matter how scary it is to go and shed you inibitions (sp.) the hardest thing to actually do is having to get dressed to leave. Without fail it is always the lowlight of my day.

I got back last week from my first trip to a resort. Was there for 3 days. The first hour or two were terrifing but I soon got over it and had one of the best getaways in my life. Now I'm pretty sure I'm addicted. The staff and residents at Wildwood have to be the friendliest folks I have ever met and were completely helpful to a newbie. If any of you should find yourself in the DFW Texas area and looking for a Wholesome, Family friendly place, then I highly recommend this place. Very nice facilities. I guess my favorite has to be the 5K walking / running trail. The only real problem I had there was GETTING DRESSED TO LEAVE. Now trying to find the time to go back.

I just did my first official public nudity last month, on a cruise ship that had a "freestyle" sundeck. I just dropped my drawers and stretched out. Just like everyone else up there. Or 'bout 95%, there were a few who wore suits, and the occasional folks who just strolled up to see what was going on. No embrassment, nothing but enjoyment. Go for it...

I too agree that you won't feel awkward at a nude beach. Meanwhile you will have invigorating feel of the sun and wind on your bare skin, along with enjoying the surf. Removing that last piece of cloth makes a difference.

I can't speak for Haulover but, where I go (Sandy Hook,NJ) the best way to tell the regulars is by their tan and how much stuff they bring.

Bob
Have a nice NUDE day !!

You may not believe it, but you will not feel out of place. Just behave like you would on a textile beach or taking a walk around the block. Be polite and treat others as you would like to be treated. It will change your life. Have fun...

Fear not. If you go there, take off your trunks and have a seat or take a stroll on the beach or walk in the surf with your wife, you won't look out of place. You will be lost in the crowd. If it's your first time, you'll surely feel strange, but you won't be. Trust me, the first time is scary and feels a bit wierd, but it passes very quickly. Just take note of the fact that most everyone is nude and there will likely be thousands of you, especially on the weekends. Still hundreds during the week. And no matter what the beach population is at the time you are there they are virtually all nudies. Unless you are in a Buick, you won't be out of place.

Enjoy the warmth of the sun, the sound and sight of the waves, the ocean, the wind on your body and the company of your wife.
