Posted - 06/27/2003 : 09:21:53 AM I know of nudist beach in NorthCarolina on Jordan Lake. It is very near both Raleigh and Durham. Go out east on 751 toward Pittsboro. When you arrive at the bird sanctuary, walk back into the area on foot (1/2) mile. You come up on a secluded beach area. This is state land upon which no stature regulates what is worn. Many of the nudists are male, gay, but areas are available for family activity. Does anyone out there know of any other places like this in NC?

Posted - 02/05/2008 : 4:44:07 PM Coventry-NC is now closed to visitors; it will totally close in March. Whispering Pines is closed to visitors till April.
BTW, In NC, it has since the '80s been illegal on gov't land to be nude. I dealt with it when I had campouts in the Pisgah Forest for my club and other nudists. Additionally, much federal land administration is turned over to local authorities such as the Circle in the Pisgah National Forest. Cheri

I guess I'll go ahead and throw this in here. I'll be going out to N. Carolina this summer and I should have my Sundays free I was wondering what is the closest nude destination to Camp Lejune? I've heard about Whispering Pines and I have visited their web site I think I might check it out are there any others I should keep in mind?
Jasmine Trail near New Bern is about 40 miles from Camp Lejuene, Whispering Pines about 100 miles.

Nudity, sex acts prompt trail closing Bird-watchers seek a new spot for loft
Cheryl Johnston Sadgrove, Staff Writer
CHAPEL HILL - The state will close a mile of nature trails and a bird-watching area at Jordan Lake because of complaints about public nudity and sexual activity.
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is cutting access to the Indian Creek Wildlife Observation Area off N.C. 751 in Chatham County starting Friday.
Nudity, sexual solicitation and harassment have been a problem on the trails for years, said Isaac Harrold, manager of the State Lands Program. A recent increase has prompted the shutdown.
Last summer, uniformed commission enforcement officers issued 30 citations for public nudity alone, Harrold said. Recently, two male enforcement officers wore civilian clothes and walked the trails. Within an hour, men had solicited both officers for sexual acts.
References to Jordan Lake appear on several gay and nudist Web sites.
Harrold said the Wildlife Resources Commission doesn't have enough officers to respond to repeated problems there.
"It would essentially take full-time enforcement for a significant period of time to correct those problems. And we simply do not have those resources," he said.
The commission will block the parking lot with a cable. It will likely open the parking lot for hunters during hunting season, Harrold said.
It's up to the N.C. Department of Transportation to decide whether to post "No parking" signs along the stretch near the parking lot.
"We're hopeful that they may choose to do that," Harrold said.
The closure will mean a big change for the New Hope Audubon Society. The chapter, which has about 1,000 members across Durham, Orange and Chatham counties, has maintained a bird-watching platform at that location for 20 years.
That platform was badly damaged by wind in a 2007 storm and removed by volunteers. The society had obtained a grant and planned to rebuild it this spring. Now the society is working with the Wildlife Resources Commission and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to find a new site on Jordan Lake.
Thousands of bird-watchers used the old observation area over the years to observe American bald eagles fishing, flying and nesting, said Marsha Stephens, chapter president. Jordan Lake is also one of only two nesting sites in the state for the double-crested cormorant, she said.
The only commission-sanctioned trail at Indian Creek had led to the bird-watching platform, Harrold said. But nudists created another trail over time that led to the beach. Although there used to be more complaints about the unofficial trail, incidents in recent months have suggested that both trails now have problems, Harrold said.
Stephens didn't want to say much about the illegal activity that has crept into the society's bird-watching territory.
"It's an unfortunate coincidence that those two places are side by side," she said. "We definitely have two populations that are very different, that are there for two different reasons."

Posted - 07/10/2007 : 12:56:21 PM Dont think it was first hand knowledge, but was talk from one who is at the resort every weekend and lives nearby in Cherry Grove. One other "regular" member did mention that we should "get up a caravan and go down to Bird Island for the day".No one else within ears distance gave it a second thought though.

Posted - 07/09/2007 : 7:02:33 PM Bud, Who told you that at Coventry-NC?!! Did someone actually see homosexual activity there or did someone tell someone who told someone?! Nudists generally don't use Bird Island to relax on...there are way too many incidents of the authorities interrupting relaxing days. Cheri

Hello from the carolinas
If nudists go there, they are very vigilant in case authorities approach. Triangle Area Naturists still advise against visiting. Read other notes above. Cheri

Posted - 06/03/2007 : 08:13:15 AM Thanks Cheri I'd love to meet up but I don't know what my schedule will be like. I'll keep the date in mind though. What I really wish is that I could just remain at home with my family and simply retire. Kind of funny in a way. I am eliglble to do just that but I find myself unwilling to do it out of principle. I would feel like I was deserting or something. Well again thanks for the invite we'll see.

Posted - 06/02/2007 : 09:56:18 AM Al, If you visit Whispering Pines 7/13-15 (15th is a Sunday), it'd be great to meet. We leave after lunch on Sunday. About 10 minutes away from there is Coventry-NC, but my favorite will always be Whispering Pines in that area. Lunch/dinner in the area: a couple of suggestions - in Little River on Hwy. 17 is Chianti South, the best Italian restaurant since leaving NY, and Horry's, a seafood place where locals go to eat.
