This is just my own story of my progress so far as a new nudist. As a kid, around twelve years old, I'd sleep nude and be nude around the house when my parents weren't home. One time after school when I forgot my house key and had to wait on the back screen porch, I had an hour before my dad got home from work, so I went nude in the backyard. It was risky looking back on it, because there was a wooden fence separating the neighbors to the rear and left of my house, and being on a corner lot, the street was on the right, so if anyone drove by, they would've had a full view of the backyard, and a full view of me! But it felt great.
Fast forward a decade; a new house in a gated/golf course community. Some nights I'd go to a certain hill on the golf course, on the side facing away from the houses and lay naked on it, feeling the grass and watching the night sky. Of course, the side facing away from the houses also faced the road, but it was such a small opening that anyone driving by would more likely be watching the road at that hour.
But one night, I heard two guys walking from down the road to where I was, and I quickly put on my clothes and walked away. It was a full moon that night, but if they saw me they wouldn't have seen a full moon from me, since I was facing up. I was still buckling my belt as I walked away, and as I kept hearing their voices behind me, I started running. On the way home, I found a different hill I could use. I used it a couple times, on nights with a lot of fog, but it was right next to the woods and not in the open like the other one.
A few years later, I'm working in Georgia, and there are woods all around me. So I start exploring, and soon find an area of woods that was cleared out to lay pipes. It was pretty remote, with three entrances, all well hidden: one by the road, one by a softball field, and one by an electricity-line path. There was a nice patch of tall grass that I laid down in naked, although one time a small animal, don't know what kind, was using the flattened grass as a shade and ran off when I was near.
On a hiking trail not far from the first secluded area, there was a stream that cut into the trail. The stream was very shallow with eroded rock as its bed, but it also had a mud puddle and I always wanted to be naked and covered in mud like the pictures I've seen of some nude beaches, so I tried it. Afterwards I was like, now what? and got bored with it. Washing myself off with cold water wasn't fun, and I couldn't get all the mud off my back.
I went to the stream a second time. No mud for me this time, but I decided to leave my clothes along the bank and go for a little hike. When I heard voices nearby, I panicked, as nobody was near when I first showed up. But the hiking trails are long and winding and you can't hear people coming as well as you'd like, now that I know better. The voices were coming from where I left my clothes. And my keys. And my phone. I was so stupid to leave them behind, trying to be daring and free, thinking that no one would ever see me or take my things.
It was hard to tell exactly where they were coming from, so I went off the trail and into the woods to sneak to where my clothes were. Normally I'd take my steps slowly and carefully even if I wasn't barefoot, but my adrenaline was high and without effort I was able to move through the woods quickly. I'm lucky they were talking so much, or else I might've run right into them. I could hear them just ahead, getting closer, so I had to take a chance, hope my clothes were still there, and make a run for them. To my relief, everything seemed untouched, so I carefully made my way down the steep side of the stream and put my shorts on. As I did, I saw one of the two guys walking on the trail on the other side of the stream, but I don't think he saw me, so I put my back against the side and ducked down while putting on my shirt and shoes.
I waited until they went away a little, back the way they came, until I went back the way I came. I knew once I had my shorts on, no one could say anything if they didn't see me naked, so I was in the clear. I learned some lessons from this: even if you explore the trail first, people can come out of nowhere at any time; never ever leave your things out of sight; and always have someone with you - don't rely on phone reception.
That was all before my first trip to a nude beach: Playalinda Beach, Florida. It was a thrilling experience, better than anything done alone. No more worrying about getting arrested or running away from people or having my clothes stolen. Finally, a place to belong. I went there again recently and plan to go back.
But now I wonder, what's the next step? A nudist resort? Looking online, there are only a few options for me. I don't want to spend money to join the AANR just to stay at certain places where I'd get ten percent off, or for that matter, stay at such places that charge too much in my opinion for non-members to attend. It just seems like nudity is a basic freedom, but then there's this subculture in the resorts that makes it conform to one organization and mindset, and that doesn't seem right to me. I understand the need for security and income, but I see it as a necessary evil, or the lesser of two evils, the other being fewer resorts.
I did make a brief stop by the Little Econlockhatchee River in Winter Park, Florida to go skinny dipping, but there was no one else there and I didn't want to be alone. It's not an official nudist area, but other people, nude or not, would've helped ease my mind. It was too swampy anyway.
I'm thinking about Hidden River Resort in Florida next, depending on their rules and rates. But any advice? I don't want to go back to risky solo streaking, and I want something other than the beach again, but not a resort which I'm not sure would pay off in the long run for something I might be able to do for free, y'know? |

I wanted to know how you got back into your house. You were locked out because you didn't have your key. I'll stay up all night worrying about you, or maybe trying to figure out how you got back in. I hope you got back in gracefully, and hope your family did not catch you.
Requiring minds need to know.
Making the transfer from nude beach to nudist resort would seem like not too much of a difference, except the resort would have more financial formalities. As long as you're comfortable being nude among other nude people, you have it made.

Hey TT...welcome to the site. Our beginnings were similar in that as an 11 or 12 yr old, I couldn't wait for my parents to go out. My backyard excursions when they were out were only at night as we had no privacy at all from the neighbors.
If you join AANR (not sure about the other) through a non-landed club like I did, the annual fee is only about $60 but obviously varies depending on the club. It helps to support the club, as they will host winter swims and trips to other landed clubs along with other activities. You also get The Bulletin from AANR which has lots of useful information on clubs/resorts in every state. Plus, like you state, you do get a discount as a member on day passes, merchandise, etc...
