After reading about local nude beaches, I decided to go to the San Onfre Clothing Optional section of beach. I had read some e-mails that warned the beach butted next to restricted Camp Penelton Govt. property. Anyway, I hiked to the beach and saw the signs warning against entering the restricted property and beach.

I obeyed the warning and set up my towel on the beach on the legal side of the sign. While I was there, I noticed a majority of the nude bathers were ignoring the sign and heading down the restricted beach. I have read that the Marine MP's were citing violators but none of the nude bathers seemed to pay heed. Why I writing this post is that I am wondering why people ignore posted warnings given the important marine training and the terrorist concerns of our times. I truly feel that a majority of San Onfre nude bathers are giving nudist a bad rap. I'm just thank-ful there is a section of beach allocated for my use and enjoyment.

Kimberly,

We couldn't agree more!!! Do it the right way! Support organizations such as AANR, Local groups, and politicians who suport nudism. Don't endanger our nude beaches by breaking the law!!!

Some people enjoy pushing the evelope, and othere just care about themselves and not others. I know people who have the attitude, "Rules were meant to be broken." It effects all of us and gives nudism a bad name. We do need more areas to be nude, but breaking the law is not away to do it.

Going nude out of designated and/or traditional areas can put the existing areas at risk.

I'm all for poineering new places, and more public locations. I just ask that people do it away from existing locations, so as not to put them at risk.

That's good news FireProf. It's good to know that the authorities know what types are doing it and that nudists aren't supportive of the bad behavior!

Alot of those that venture past the sign onto the Camp Pendleton section of San Onofre Beach are looking for added privacy. Some are homosexual, some are risking arrest by having public sex, some are newbies that are trying nudism for the first time and are uncomfortable with those of us regulars that visit San O often.

The MP's will sweep that portion of the beach from time to time if the need arises. In those cases some of those on the Camp Pendleton portion will come to the state beach side and stay, others will leave.

There are those that are filming and taking adult oriented pictures down there that know that the nudists on the state beach section will not tolerate their behavior.

The rangers, lifeguards and Marines all know about these people and the rangers and lifeguards know they are not connected with the nudists on the State Beach section. Thanks to the continued efforts of the Friends of San Onofre Beach Naturist Group.

Slo, I think those same people would go past that sign whether they were nude or not. The problem is, when they are arrested for trespassing and they are clothed, they are not stereotyped. When they are nude they do get stereotyped and it makes it look like all of us ignore the signs and the laws. I think it always better not to attract attention to our lifestyle, and especially not by breaking the law. People who are interested in what we do will seek us out just as we seek others via this forum.

Connie:
Thanks for the come back and your well stated response. I like your use of the key word "respect".
Sunny trails to you.

I cannot speak for them. All I can do is express agreement with your sentiments with the added caveat that the citations seem to have to do with simple trespass.

If faced with such a situation I would... of course -- obey the sign. I was faced with a situation where we were at EH and suddenly came face to face with a ... corn field?!?! The sign, which faced the corn field said no trespassing. Oops - strayed out of established nude areas... so we turned around and came back. no harm no foul. It has to do with respecting the boundaries of good taste. Some people seem to think that if you shed your clothes then your respect for others should be shed along with it. Not so. I respect property lines for the same reason I don't walk naked down the street -- I don't wanna get arrested!

When you're a nudist, life's a beach! :-)
