Posted - 03/10/2010 : 2:41:10 PM It is a sad world when you make a snow women cover up for fear of people seeing something natural and artistic. The snow sculpture created after "Venus de Milo" by Eliza Gonzalez at her home in Rahway, N.J. Gonzalez and her children created the snow sculpture, and were later visited by police who told her a neighbor had complained, and would have to knock it down or cover it up. This was taken from USA Today March 8 2010. I think police are the ones that should go to jail and Eliza and her kids should win a prize, for a great work of art! What is this world coming to? Posted - 04/22/2010 : 12:51:45 AM America is such a funny place. In Britain and here in France, people amused themselves making roadside snow couples having sex in extravagant positions. They were there until they melted. The pictures were circulated round the world by e-mail and if I knew this thread was going to come up, I'd have saved a couple and posted them. I don't remember any report of people being anything but amused. |

We too have our fair share of the Narrow Minded, so it was a relief to see that most of the public comments were either positive, or very positive. One particularly astute observation was that in the USA nudity is only OK as long as someone (usually well connected) is making money out of it, and this does seem to be the case - Japan, the US and China seem particularly keen on pornography, whereas more "Naturist friendly" societies just don't see the need.
Personally I think the police should have told the neighbour to mind their own business, after all the sculpture was on private property, and if they didn't like it, then they didn't have to look!

It is always about the money! The government would tax Snow Art if they could. I think we should all go nude to protest. Oh I guess that is why we are here. |

Snow balls...
Oh, and snow men can get away with only wearing a hat and scarf!

I think the above line sums it up.

Posted - 03/20/2010 : 7:57:06 PM I'm sure the police were trying to satisfy everyone, and it was more of a request than an order. The choice to cover the snow woman probably drew more attention than if they had fought to keep her the way she was.

Posted - 03/20/2010 : 01:22:10 AM I do not see any legal grounds for a police complaint at all. This is ridiculous, and it sounds very unlikely to me. I'd have challenged the police action completely. |
