We have plans to fly to San Francisco sometime is July with Mrs Steady's best girl friend and her husband. We've traveled with them before and they're not nudists.
They've asked questions about our nudist life and holidays but have always stated that they " couldn't be naked around others ". We've always just left it at that and not forced it on them even when they visit and use our pool and hot tub which we use naked regularly.
Interestingly, yesterday while playing a round of golf she surprised me and out of the blue asked when we were all going to " take a naked vacation together ".
This is something I never thought I would ever hear her sugest so, I was caught off gaurd. I did sugest that we could give it a try during our trip to San Fran in July.
So, here's the question. Does anyone have any sugestions on resorts near San Fran that would be a really nice way to ease first timers into naturism?

Okay...

Here's what I see. On another site you and I are on ... you've made it perfectly clear that you are NOT a resort or club lover. You've made it clear that you hate, despise one of the national orgs. You are upset because you joined this resort with your now ex wife and since the split they will not allow you to join as a single male. It's their policy ... right, wrong ... indifferent but that's not a reason to trash talk them. Before they didn't allow you to visit and you visited with your ex wife ... was it a nice place and a place to take first timers? I'll bet if you were honest ... you'd agree but because of what happened ... you are now tainted with this resort.

Are you being objective? Are your frustrations with your personal experience with this resort and their rules/policies driving your angry posts against them?

NO real experience? What experience are you talking about? Does someone have to have a bad experience to go through what you went through with LdS in order to give their side and their experiences with regard to the resort in question? I have been turned away as a single male. I have been discriminated against as a single male and watched by several people around the pool deck. YOU are not the only one that has had negative experiences but ... even though I dislike my own clubs policies and some of the rules ... I continue to recommend that place to others because I take my own personal experiences and put them aside and give an objective view of what it is they are asking for.

Just because you had a bad experience and now hate this resort, doesn't mean the rest of the naturist community has to hate this resort as well. SO ...

Read my lips! LET IT GO! I will if you will!

Okay ... first off;

The manager "we" encountered was female, not male and she was very nice. I don't know if she's an assistant or what but she was introduced and when she greeted us she gave her title as resort manager.

Second; ... can we get off the topic of whether you think the manager has issues. The OP asked for advice on where to take first timers. If you don't have anything constructive to say, then don't say it. How often are you going to have contact with the resort manager. We didn't until we asked to use our camera and we were treated great on our first trip to Laguna Del Sol and will return, by ourselves and with our friends.

Steady 78, if you can get passed the negative banter ... I still say, for a RESORT, you can't beat Laguna del Sol in Wilton, Ca just outside Sacramento. You will have a nice time. If you feel energetic ... cruise the lake in a paddle boat ... great exercise!

Telling someone to steer clear of a bad situation is the most constructive advice I can think of. Continue to keep your head in the sand concerning the alarming management at Laguna del Suckage if you wish, but don't ever tell anyone to censor the truth.

Oh geez Mr Rabbit ... can you get over it!

Typical dismissive from one who has no real argument against those with the real experience.

Hi:

I would take them to Desert Shawdows, I believe
there is a new name.

But it is the class of nudist resorts.

FP: I wasn't the one who brought up the manager...I simply seconded the motion. Criticism certainly CAN be constructive; people want to know both the pluses and minuses. For example, if a beach has gawkers, I'd want to know. A manager is not important until you have to deal with him/her. The general manager is male, office manager is female; the info is all online.

OK, Steady78, sorry for the topic drift. Laguna del Sol IS a great place despite that one negative, and I'd recommend it highly (we've been there dozens of times over the past 20 years). I agree with Pete that a resort is a better choice for a first timer than a beach. BTW, you are welcome, Pete.

Have fun, and if you go to Laguna make sure you take a hike out to the river.

Just got off the phone with my cousin who lives in Sacramento area. Our planned trip up to see them fell through ... but ... we are both regrouping and gonna set a date for a visit a week or so later than previously planned and we, my wife and I, will be heading up that way in early Aug and staying at Laguna Del Sol for a few days.

We'll be camping in our motorhome, hopefully lake side! Looking forward to the naked drive up, an awesome few days at LdS and a great visit with my cousin, finished off by a naked drive home!

Enjoy you vacation with your friends, whatever you plan and wherever you decide to stay.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions !
I didn't think this topic would bring such bad blood! I do agree with FP about resort managers not being important when visiting a large resort. Hopefully this topic can get back to a positive slant!

NudeSunGuy, thank you for your superb link to the bay area. Lived there for many years with my daughter in Mill Valley.
Yes, the only issue is weather. Does get chilly.
I believe I would never suggest taking a first timer to a Public clothing optional site. Too many gawkers, would upset her as it would me with her discomfort, naturally.
Stay natural, stay in the sun and smooth !

Yes, I'll chime in and agree that the manager is a psycho. He'll yell at you as if you were a child for the smallest reason. Hard to believe he didn't scream at you for even ASKING to use a camera. He NEVER smiles or says hi. I really wish he would be replaced; the owners are such sweet people. Stay away from him if you can and Laguna is a wonderful place.

I agree Meadowlark is a great place. For example the manager/owner there saw us bending one of the rules (glass somewhat near the pool), we apologized, but he smiled and said, "You two don't look very rowdy to me, enjoy."

In my opinion there are much better beaches than Bonny Doon near Santa Cruz. 2222 and Privates for example. Info here: http://www.sfbg.com/nudebeaches

Then you might want to read some more, including Yelp reviews (including the filtered ones). Believe me, I'm not the only person to have had problems with that jerk.

Ahhhh...may be in your eyes, this manager was a psycho but ... when we were there, the manager was nice and allowed us to use our camera. That doesn't sound like a psycho to us!

Not a good thing to generalize because you, personally, had a bad experience. I've never heard or read anywhere where the manager of LdS was a psycho.

Stay away from Laguna del Sol, psycho manager.

If you must go to a resort, go to Sequoians across the bay in Castro Valley. There's an excellent nude beach in San Francisco itself, Baker Beach. The north end is nude, patrolled by the park service and very easy to get to. Beautiful view of the Golden Gate, and we have watched seals and dolphins right off shore.

Also, head down to Bonny Doon Beach at the intersection of Hwy-1 and Bonny Doon Road. North end is the nude end, and the path is at the south end of the parking lot.

If you go north into the Napa/Sonoma Wine country, you MUST go to Meadowlark: http://www.meadowlarkinn.com/

Have to agree, Laguna Del Sol for sure. The property has something for every taste. A great first location at Laguna del Sol is to rent one of the hotel room in the hotel/pool/spa building (about $109 a night) where you get a very private locale for the first timer. The indoor pool here is used sparingly; you're across the lake from the main area and it afford an opportunity to ease into the wonderful nude resort.

nothing feels better than the warm sun on 100% of the body!
