Yesterday there was an announcement on Skinbook that Cheri Alexander had been banned. It was followed by quite a discussion. Today it seems to have disappeared. (At least I can't find it.)

This is the announcement that was posted:

It is with great regret that we annouce that as from today Cheri Alexander has been relieved of her admin post and banned from using Skinbook.

Just recently we took a decision here at Skinbook HQ to ease up on the bureaucracy and leave Skinbook members to their own devices a little more... not too much, just enough to show you all a bit more respect and trust you know how to moderate yourselves.

For the past few months our admins have taken a VERY active role in moderating Skinbook... issueing instructions and warnings at every turn. This original approach came about due to the massive influx of members we received earlier this year after heavy press coverage here in the UK... so many new members from outside the nudist lifestyle coming here out of curiousity - somebody had to try and sort the good from the bad.

Since that time we have banned almost 2000 members from that original influx. One of the great consequences of this is that the bad behaviour on Skinbook calmed down to it's original low levels... in other words, we got rid of all the idiots.

With this in mind we decided to request that our admins ease up on the policing of Skinbook a little, treat everyone as grown-ups again and leave you to your own devices a little more. For some reason Cheri took this very personally and decided to start issueing the following message to our members...

“Skinbook is no longer going to be as genuine. The Admins are only now allowed to moderate photos. We can no longer moderate posts, blogs, members, nor can we remove members who are not acting appropriately."

This is RUBBISH! We did roll back some of Cheri's personal responsibilities, but the admins here at Skinbook HQ were going to take up those responsibilities ourselves. We very much appreciate the input from Cheri over the past few months, but to try and poison our renewed efforts in such a childish fabricated manner is, quite frankly, offensive. (None of the other admins had any problem with the move.)

Skinbook is most definitely going to continue to be moderated and MODERATED PROPERLY IN A WAY APPROPRIATE TO THE NUDIST LIFESTYLE. Oh yes, we will be keeping an eye on things you lovely naked people. We just won't be doing it in such a fussy instructional way anymore.

You're all grown-ups and we trust you know how to behave... we also trust that if you see anyone abusing Skinbook with any inappropriate content or images that you'll let us know.

We hope you'll continue to enjoy the Skinbook experience :)

Another Cheri banning...darn. I've known her personally, I know how she likes to "run things", and how personally she takes it when authority/control is removed from her. My 5 cents would be for her to take a web design course, or call upon the expertise of an IT Travelites member, and start her own forum (aside from the Travelites one).
I've said it again and again: in person, Cheri is a true nudist role-model. She's especially incredible with first-timers or "reluctants", almost effortlessly drawing them into the nudist way of life with her conviviality, charm and complete comfort with "nude hosting." Women have been inspired by and emulated her (including my ex). But her authorative stance makes it difficult to "leisurely moderate." Her talents would probably be best served by running her own forum.

This reminds me of some political people who can't stand the thought of an efficient economy and society with maximum freedom and very little regulation.

The most difficult thing to do is to conquer oneself, myself very much included. Perhaps she might explore that avenue, and I say that constructively. Cheri has plenty of creative energy and zeal, which helps nudism, but she might want to find that elusive brake pedal that slows us down when we need to take it a bit easier, when it comes to moderation. Hmm, being moderate in moderation? I guess so.

Cheri should be commended for sticking to her beliefs, and fighting for them. Within an ultra-conservative nudist organization, she may become very useful and supportive of the common cause.

The problem is, most nudist websites and groups we know of are moderate to some degree.
  • In the case of Skinbook, with a name sure to attract the wrong element, the attention is directed at the skin with some requirements for nude photos to help flush out those who are not 'true'.

  • At Truenudists there is also an apparent emphasis on encouraging a fixation on nude photos, providing access to more nude photos with a paid membership.

  • Clothesfree has dropped the emphasis on photo sets featuring minors prominently, which we commended and acknowledged by reinstating their links on this website. Access to thousands of nude photos is still a membership draw, but we feel they have balanced their offerings.

  • In the case of NRO, our moderate stance is that we are not opposed to lifestyle swingers attending nudist resorts provided they are extremely well behaved, and we don't hold fantasy or adult clothing in the nightclub as inherently evil. This is in alignment with what we have observed in practice at most nudist destinations.
Because of these factors, an ultra-conservative probably wouldn't serve well as moderator of these groups. There would arise an eventual conflict. Ultra-conservatives probably need their own domain exclusively, but that would likely attract a small fraction of the participants that enjoy the moderate websites. A dilemma.

Where are the ultra-conservatives hanging out on the Internet these days? Is AANR's blog area the only place?
