Hi Everyone! I'm pretty new to this forum and have only posted a couple times. Actually, my wife and I are new to naturism. It started with a visit to Apollo Beach in July. As Floridians we have since been to Playalinda Beach, Sunnier Palms, and Cypress Cove. All good experiences. We joined TNS just last month.

As TNS members we just got a mailing about the Mid-Winter Naturist Festival February 15-20, 2007 at Sunsport Gardens Family Naturist Resort. Admittedly we're new to all this and I don't want to anger anyone, and I do understand "different strokes..." But if our naturist/nudist position is to defend that it's not about sex and to separate naturism from swinging, isn't our positioned weakened when (I'm assuming) a TNS-sanctioned gathering at a FAMILY naturist resort includes workshops on polyamory and tantric sex, along with "a full program of fun activities for children?" I might be the only one, but I'm just not comfortable with this. Not to mention Wicca, etc. Again, I understand there is a full spectrum of people involved in naturism; peace. But isn't that sending mixed messages? We're nudists, NOT swingers, but our naturist festival includes workshops on swinging. I'm just really puzzled and wondering about our level of interest in social nudism.

Just make sure you get a recept for everything you do there. They are under new managment and they don't even keep a cash drawer anymore because they don't know how to.

The don't know how to use Campground Master or Quick Books as there is nobody left to show them how.

They have gone to a complete volunteer system and there are only a few people on the payroll that I know of.

Things that break are being fixed, but it takes an act of God to get the money for that from Morley the owner.

They go through cooks like you go through breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The best thing they have going for them at this point is that they are the most kid friendly resort in the US or even the world, but they are disorganized now and it's a bit like watching the three stuges as they bump into each other and agrue about getting the simplest things done.

Just make sure you get a printed recept for everything and that they don't just hand write you one because even if you know you've paid for something, they will not honor it without a recept.

"polyamory" -- Now thats a new one to me. Then I look it up on the web and find lots of references-I must have led a sheltered life.

Of course it has nothing to do with nudism and shouldnt be portrayed as being an adjunct of naturism, no more than Wicca should, even if they do go sky clad sometimes. At the moment I am making a list of hit and miss places and this one goes on the miss side

Nudists, especially longtime nudists, forget that to the world at large, plain 'ol vanilla nudism is EXTREMELY adventurous and even shocking. That's why I always think it's funny when those same longtime nudists get all up in arms and shocked when some nudists take that adventurousness one step further, into sexually liberal realms. I don't think MOST nudists are into the sexually liberal stuff, but I think there is a bigger percentage of such participants among nudists than, say, bankers (bankers not being a very adventurous group in our society). Anyway, all this is just a preamble to my opinion that the lecture/workshop on sexual fringe stuff offered at Sunsport Gardens probably isn't something to worry about too much, as long as the resort also offers a number of lectures and workshops on less controversial stuff, too, like fiction writing, antique restoration techniques, etc. Myself, if I ran the place, I certainly wouldn't emphasize the sexual workshops, but I wouldn't ban them, either. Yes, nudism should be family friendly, but let's all remember that adults are part of families, too.

I just got the flyer about this festival from SFFB.

If I had to label my husband and I, I would say that we are also naturists...... not swingers.

And I think we're gonna go check this out for a few days. It just looks like fun.

I don't think it is a good idea. OTOH, with all the divorces and remarriages, we have a lot of serial polyamory in this country; the idea of polyamory is to have multiple but committed monogamous relationships, not a swinging orgy. My guess is that the presentation will be a discussion and involve no actual sex.

Similarly, tantric sex is a form of yoga involving sex, not necessarily a swinging orgy. The question is whether the presentation is to be an intellectual discussion or involve actual sex. I would bet it is entirely intellectual.

With the huge number of events, I did not even notice these two when I first read the list.

Given that Christian churches now have adult services that deal with all sorts of sex aides, and that TV is wall to wall adultery, this is pretty tame. At the very least, these discussions will be encouraging responsible extramarital sex for those who might practice that.

All in all, I don't see this coloring the event in the least.

I still don't think it is a good idea. I'd like to see a firm policy in place first.

Yes it does. Fun and affordable :-) What a great cure for the NE USA winter blahs. If we can get away for that long (a long trip for us), my wife and I would love to go.

cenfldh,
From what you say, it doesn't sound anything like anything to do with nudism. It sounds to me like a situation to distance yourself from. And based on what HarborGuy has to say about the operation of the place, that in itself sounds to be like a disaster waiting to happen.

You must understand that when I wrote this it was the year 2006. A lot has changed since that time. They have a new manager and grounds manager. Things are moving along and there have been many structual advances, not the least of which is new showers and new laundry areas. Security has gotten %100 better and there is a new gate system which makes getting in and out a lot easier. The staff is wonderful and full of life. I think this years festival will be back to what it once was.

When in February is it, and where? Nothing current is coming up on my searches. I am going to visit my Mom in February.

The midwinter festival runs from Feb 11th to the 16th and though it gets cold sometimes it usually only lasts a day or two and then its back to nice warm Florida sun. However I suggest you bring a warm rone or poncho just in case because who can predict the weather? If you have questions check out their web site at www.sunsportgardens.com
