I did not start shaving my pubic hair until the age of 30. I had just never thought about it before just considering pubic hair a part of life. Now that I started I never want to go back and sometimes also shave my chest.
I do think that kids should be allowed to decide for themselves when or if they want to shave their pubic hair once it starts growing. Parents should ideally make sure they know how to do it safely though.

Bonjour !

This was a subject that came up inadvertently at a campsite here in France this summer.

I was on a cycling trip and I spent my second night at Le Fiscalou, a small site here in the south which I have visited several times. Each time I've noticed that more and more people have shaved, especially among the Dutch who make up the bulk of the visitors.

That afternoon, by chance EVERYBODY round the pool had shaved, men and women. You couldn't miss it. After a while I went into the bar to cool down and to catch up on the Tour de France. My visit coincided with the arrival of a British family with two teenage children, a boy I'd put at 16 and a girl I found out later was 14.

They signed in, went off and a while later came and joined everyone round the pool. They hadn't shaved, although both the women were trimmed. I took no more notice of them and half an hour later they wandered off, back to their camping van, probably, or for a drink.

I forgot about them and got on with relaxing. People came and went and when this family returned the only empty loungers round the pool were next to me. I said hi and they smiled back and made the usual pleasantries and then took off their towels.

They had all shaved, including the girl. Except for the boy. But within the hour he had drifted off somewhere too and when he came back, hey presto, he was as smooth as everyone else!

I'm sure I wasn't the only one round the pool to notice and to smile inwardly. I never got to speak more than the few words to them and I doubt I could have raised the subject anyway. But I'd love to have known what went through their minds.

happy days

Children are naturally going to learn "normal" adult behavior from their parents. Since you and husband both shave off all your body hair you should expect your children to want to do as you do. When your children start growing hair is the time for them to begin copying your example. Teaching them something else is hypocrisy which they will react to negatively.

====I am from Germany and from what I've heard it's not so unusual for kids at that age to shave their pubes. Age 13 or 14 seems to be quite normal now.===

Here in France it is not uncommon either. Not common, I'd say, but I've often see young girls shaved, although boys less so. Does it really matter?

Indeed it matter not. I do believe that young people do what their friends are doing...the current popular trend is shaving.
Stay smooth, my friends, and enjoy being yourself

I would prefer they didnt at all until they had pubic hair long enough to really know if they like it or not and not just encourage them to be smooth simply because trends say be shaved. So if I could control my teenagers time to shave I would not allow it before age 18.

Our daughter started shaving hers when she turned 13, she said she liked the look and feel. My wife and I are also both shaven, and keep it that way, as she does now as well.

I would personally in my case leave it up to the teenage son/daughter to shave their pubic region. In our case my wife an I have decided to go natural leave it unshaved, that our daughter who just turned 13, thinks that she will probably trim it at least when it gets bushy. But as for now she's leaving it alone.

If a teen wants to shave why not? It is a personal grooming choice--I have heard from my waxer that she has had mothers bring in their teens who wanted to get a Brazilian....Don't know if she would do a younger teen age boy or not but at 18 I bet there would be no question. I was to SANDY HOOK beach last summer and saw virtually NO TEENAGERS at all....some little kids and then jump to about 21--- virtually none in between those ranges....
