That was definitely naked and real... Thanks!

Thing is, while I'd prefer that CO beaches just went ahead and prohibited clothing, the usual gawkers at Gunnison are generally naked.

The only way you can win there is to chase-off those cretins in no uncertain terms. If you do that much, they won't come around again.

We hardly ever see repeat offenders any more. The proof is in the pudding, as grandpa used to say.

I have some friends that want to go to Gunnison and do tent camping. Does anyone know where the closest places are to tent camp? I'm sure it is not allowed in the park - right?

I haven't seen any tent camping on SH at all, and I've been going there since 2006 or so. I HAVE seen RVs stay overnight, which requires a permit.

I can't say that I blame the NPS for that policy. Gunnison is a free-for-all at times late in the day as it is... Imagine a slew of drunken campers there all night long!

...And it's too bad; this thread was one-stop-shopping for all aspects of the Gunnison experience, from construction/traffic to the gawker issues.

Another site -gbnj.co- has taken up the slack a bit, but it's all fragmented and a chore to read.

I think it will still be a good thread for reference with anyone new to the site, plus I'm sure questions will pop up to keep it current. Normally I get to go in June for my birthday, but it didn't work out. Hoping to go sometime before the end of the season.

I've watched that other site for a year and found it to be for the most part useless. A lot of men advertising for women, clueless people, some sex stuff and difficult to navigate around all of that. Last year somebody made a post in which he said he didn't know if the NPS had the power to ban the nudity. Yes actually they do. Is anybody still logging on here? Do you have any 2016 comments good or bad? I haven't gotten to Gunny this year but going soon.

Hi Schroeder! I haven't posted to this one in awhile but I was just there last Thursday. Nice day, good sized crowd but I thought it wasn't too crowded but my wife thought there was more people than normal. We did agree that there was a younger crowd than we usually see. It was a good day overall!

Our first trip this year. Very late for us but a move and poor weather delayed things. We found Gunnison just as we'd left it, aside from another stretch of Mobi-mat having been added. All the usual crew of gawkers seemed to have survived the winter but remembered to steer clear of us. The water temperature felt ahead of schedule and the sun was shining. Nice to be back.

Yesterday was cloudy but warm. I was kinda amazed that there were only 10 people there; never seen so few on a decent day there in 11 years.

But, of course, one of only two single men there walked waaaaay back where we were near the dunes to ask if we had an "extra water". The dumb SOB ( a pudgy East Indian of maybe 40 ) apparently thought that his BS was going to fly on this obvious ruse, or that we set-up back there so we would attract clueless losers from a quarter-mile away. I told him to keep walking and he slinked-off, the moron, but not toward the water fountains, either... Guess it wasn't hydration that he was after, as though that wasn't clear in the first place.

I try to ignore idiots such as he these days, but it's very very hard.

I was there Friday and Saturday. Small crowd on Friday but that was expected because of the weather. Saturday was the opposite - jammed with people. I'm in no hurry to return on a weekend again. Certainly weekends are a lot of fun if you're part of a group - the larger the better. For those who are not, well sadly it's everyone for themselves. Nothing new.

DW and I came from BC Canada to visit Gunnison beach this past weekend. We met up with 2 other couples we've met in St Maarten. We spent Sunday and Monday on the beach and then Monday night we took a chartered ferry to the NYC Harbour to watch the fire works. dodged the rain for the fireworks. And had a great time visiting our friends and visiting Gunnison. Very impressed with the beach. It's almost as nice as Wreck Beach in Vancouver. Hope to get back someday.

Heard a rumor that alcohol will be banned starting in 2018. Only a rumor and no explanation for why not in 2017 or sooner. If true I'll consider it to be a good thing - I'd gladly give up my one or two beers to make Sandy Hook a safer and more tranquil place. Can you remember the days when people were more reasonable and courteous and the only big parties were held in September as end of the season parties?
