A new statue of a nude woman has been constructed next to a rapid transit station in the SF Bay Area. Commuters are greeted by this twice a day. Naturally, people have varying opinions of the statue.

Referring to the statue, Tonette Watts, the 57 year old mother of a teen girl, said "If you've got kids you do not want them seeing that." Why not? It's a piece of art that sort of resembles a nude woman, but it has a steel mesh skin.

What an incredibly stupid thing to say. How can anyone think like that? I suppose she approves of her daughter watching all sorts of violence and mayhem on TV, in movies and video games. How can people actually believe that seeing a nude statue can be harmful while all the violence that masquerades as entertainment is harmless? It seems to me that these folks have it bass ackwards. If anyone had ever discovered any evidence that children, or anyone else, has ever been harmed by seeing nude people, it would have been used by child protective services to remove all the children from nudist homes. We somehow need to put a stop to this kind of nonsense.

Nudists are everywhere, but they're hard to identify with their clothes on.

"If she's a ballerina, she should have some clothes on," said Tonette Watts, 57, a resident and mother of a teen girl, who stopped and stared at the statue on her way to work. "If you've got kids you do not want them seeing that."

Supposedly ... this woman "stopped and stared at the statue ..."

What the hell was she doing stopping and staring? Don't you just love those people that complain and complain but never avert their eyes and do all they can to see what it is they don't want to see!?

Sometimes you just want to hit these people over the head with a 2x4 !

The Prof and I will absolutely make a trip up that way to visit Laguna Del Sol, my cousin and visit this place and have our picture taken right next to it! Be better if "we" can also be naked! hahahahahaha

Loves being naked. Plays well with others!

Some people just need something to complain about! If it was not this, then they would find something else!

I'll bet Ms. Watts does not take her children to art museums!

Learning is the most important occupation of children. Children need to learn about themselves and their own species by observing a wide variety of members of their own species. Any adult that deprives a child of an opportunity to learn by observation is being harmful and abusive to the child.

If a child has never seen a human being, one of his or her own species, then the statue is badly needed education. If the child has had the good fortune to see numerous members of his or her own species, then its just art. Either way it would be beneficial for children to see this art.

A public swimming pool I went to a while back had a sculpture of a naked woman at the entry. Checked with some locals and no-one really bothers about it. Think it caused a bit of a fuss initially but people got used to it and kids got to see just a beautiful natural womanly shape. Its about education.

The town I lived in for several years had a pond in the middle of town, in front of City Hall. It had been urbanized with concrete walkways all the way around and lawns. Each spring they had an "Art in the Park" event, and they tried to keep the best entry sculpture.

One year they put up a life size bronze statue of a naked boy (about 10 years old) peeing into the pond. That one lasted for a couple of years before the prudes got it taken down.

People are just so up-tight about human bodies.

I believe I'll be heading to that rapid transit stop to meet with someone. I like to park my car and ride into the Bay Area, but don't like to drive with the crazies there. Better to take the "BART" train, as it is called, and leave the driving to them.

I'm very tempted to tell people around me (when I get off the train at that station) that the statue is wonderful, and that there should be more statues like that everywhere, and then see what reaction I'll get.

Art often involves the human form. This has been the case for many centuries. It's not a current fad that "needs" fighting off to protect everyone.

Isn't it funny that some of the most intelligent life forms on earth, such as dolphins, have never winced at seeing their own species in the nude. It's just natural. Humans, on the other hand, are taught to detest themselves. Maybe it's better to be a dolphin.

Here is the statue as seen from rapid transit platform where people stand while waiting for the next train. The photo was taken from a video, by means of Windows 10 Snipping Tool. I could not link to it. The video is difficult to get to and operate successfully. Perhaps the photo could remain here for a bit of time and then be deleted to save storage space and bandwidth.

The statue does not seem to be a big deal from the train. It's not that large as seen from the platform. At first, I thought it was right in front of the train station, but it's not.

There used to be a statue of a naked discus thrower in some gardens in Melbourne. My wife, maybe GF at the time who was a trainee nurse, remarked that they had made him well endowed and said guys should not be worried about that. Went looking for it years later but it seems to have gone. Maybe a similar paranoia about nudity. They should all travel through Europe and view the amazing statues and sculptures from the masters and just get over it. SBN.
