Hello All, So, what does Maine have to offer??
The Maine woods has many beautiful areas. There are thousands of miles shoreline on both the ocean and lakes. While you can find many places to enjoy nature, some of the more common areas used by nudists include....
-> Appleton Ridge - Appleton Maine A small man-made pond. The owner has designated the sourthern shore for clothing optional use.
-> Lake Wood - Mt. Desert Island While this area had been used, there is a rumor that it recently has been closed to nude use.
-> Ketchum - Bethel Maine area. www.ketchummaine.org While not all areas are clothing optional, there are many great areas along the river which are easily accessible, but not often used by textiles. Visit KetchumMaine.org for details.
I have heard rumors of other places, but unless I either have been there, or have spoken to someone who has been there, I don't relay the information. Also, I don't relay information on areas where people are commonly ticketed for nudity.
There are two clothing optional facilities in Maine, but that is off topic for this thread. I will post that information elsewhere.
Have a GREAT Day! Kevin_from_Ketchum

You are absolutly correct. Again, I omitted this information because it is off topic for the topic Wilderness destinations & trip reports. However, since you mentioned it, here is the info.
Richmond Sauna - A rustic clothing optional sauna and B&B in Richmond Maine. FMI: Visit www.richmondsauna.com
Yorktown Recreation - Maine's first clothing optional campground. FMI: visit www.yorktownrecreation.com
Maine Coast Solar Bears - Maine's family oriented travel club. FMI: visit www.naturisthost.com/mcsb

I lived in Maine for 5 years. It is beautiful in the summer. I lived in Rockland, right on the coast. When I go up next summer, I want to try Yorktown. If you have never been to Maine, you really need to visit sometime.

We visited Maine in June '03. Traveled the entire coast from southern tip to the north and into Canada a little ways.
Beautiful place. Visited that lake outside Bar Harbour where nudity was allowed but is now illegal. Glad we were able to experience that area before they stopped the nudists from using it.
We had planned to visit Yorktown but ran out of time. 6 days was just not enough time to see everything we wanted to.

We are five centuries too late to save the primeval north forests of Maine, but we still have a chance to restore them. ONCE, a great wilderness, stretching from the Atlantic ocean to the Great Plains. THEN, a region seriously damaged by industrial development. ------------------------- Linc

My Wife and I lived in Portland in 1971-72, and we loved Maine.
