I've found it interesting that nudists insist on wearing clothing or towels when they eat together. It seems fairly universal, even at different resorts, or with non-landed groups. I refrain from being covered, myself, but feel like the odd-man out. As it is, I feel really nude at a nudist resort when I'm the only one nude. Perhaps, there should be a nudist-nudist resort where people wear nothing during eating meals.
I have tried to guess, or develop a gut feeling for the reason for covering up for meals. Is it that the human body is not good enough to be seen, or is the body too repulsive, thus killing everyone's appetite? Maybe it is just a California habit. I am not sure.
If anyone would care to cast some light on this quaint habit, I would be grateful.

It's not just in CA. We've visited many resorts all over the country and even some in other countries and there are some nudists that just need to wear something when they eat. Not sure why but they could have some skewed idea that being naked while eating is unhealthy or unsanitary?
We are naked almost always at home. Our biggest problem, when we eat, is that we are usually in front of the TV. We enjoy watching a couple of HGTV shows and DIY shows so we do that while we eat but ... if we're here alone or with nudist friends ... me and the Prof eat naked ... like we do most everything else.

We have been to a number of resorts and what I've seen is generally a little more that half eat nude while other do put something on. My wife is one that prefers to put a shirt on. She says she is just more comfortable and feels like it helps prevent her breasts from getting in the way when she is leaning in to take a bite. In addition it is a situation where she would rather mess up clothes if she spilled than get sticky food etc on her skin.

And we've had who don't even want a napkin in their lap during meals! Mostly guests from England...they consistently refuse using a napkin...and question why you would use one! We always get a chuckle with them.
I think about 75-80% of our guests dine nude when weather appropriate.

I personally never understood the napkin in the lap thing myself. I guess it just keeps it off of the table, but I don't get why people spread it out on their lap.

Talk about feeling outta place, while naked, at a nude resort ... The Prof and I visited a resort that can not be mentioned here. We got up in the morning and headed over to the restaurant for breakfast. It was chilly outside but nice and warm inside the lobby/restaurant/bar/sports bar areas.
We put on pareos/sarongs and headed over and sat at a table. We both unwrapped our wraps and were naked. We looked around and the 8 or more couples seated in the restaurant were fully dressed and staring at us. The Prof felt uncomfortable and slipped her wrap back on and the waitress came over and I asked ... "can we be naked in here?" She said ... "of course. Don't pay any attention to those others ... they are the weird ones!"
Made sense to me!

Haha. Touche. I rarely eat soup.
But seriously, I never see people do this at home, but they do in restaurants. Maybe it's because when at home, they can just change if they spill their food on them, I don't know.

There are some tremendous advantages to eating/drinking naked. I once spilled red wine all over myself while camping with friends at a nudist resort. Since I was naked, a very quick shower put it all right.
And yes, it is very odd to feel out of place being naked at a nudist venue. I was once at what used to be a nude beach (which over the years has become "clothing optional") and couldn't find any naked people. At last I happened upon a nude couple and asked, "Is this the nude section of the nude beach?"

I'd say it's about 5050 at turtle lake in Michigan. when people are eating breakfast in the club house. but lunch at the pool everyone is nude. we normally cook and eat in our camp site.

Glad to say ... we just spent a long weekend with our close friends in AZ, at their winter home. ALL meals were eaten together and all of us were naked! As I recall, all but one napkin was on a lap ... the Prof's! She's quite the etiquette follower! hahahahahaha

Interestingly...I was at a resort once (BA) when it was announced that a chef was visiting and was preparing pasta for dinner. Now I don't normally eat at the resort but I couldn't resist a good plate of pasta and meatballs. Thinking the "dressed when eating" rule was universal, I went back to my car to put my clothes back on.
It turned out I was wrong. As I proceeded to the "cantina", I suddenly realized that everyone else there was nude. One friendly nudist made a humorous comment about my textilism; and I panicked a little and wondered if I should run back to the car to undress again. But it was too late. I sat down fully dressed next to nude people and shamefully (LOL!) ate my pasta and meatballs.
I've also been to nudist get-togethers where everyone ate nude. So I wonder if it's a "rustic thing" where nudists are a little more determined to do everything nude(?)
