Short fluff piece, but very positive. However, did they really have to use a 300 lb., 65 year old guy for the accompanying photo? This just gives ammunition to the critics who say "it's only old men who go to nude beaches/resorts."

Guh. Same old story. We keep hearing that nude tourism is this huge and growing niche market, but it sounds to me like a lot of AANR wishful thinking. We keep losing nude beaches, and can anyone remember the last time a new resort opened?
Meanwhile, the portrayal of nudists breaks down along familiar lines: young partiers on one hand and old fat people on the other. My experience (and probably yours, too) is a bit more nuanced than that, but fluff pieces, as NSG accurately described this one, are typical of a lazy brand of journalism that relies on facile stereotypes.

I couldn't stand the comment by the newscaster at the end that it would be best if people just kept it at home. So closed minded.

I don't mind people being naked at home, but being naked in the world is part of being human.

Yeah, wishful thinking. And I think calling nudists places "clothing optional" has been a real bust. It brought in more swingers and textiles, and intimidated real nudists, especially the women.

I disagree. if resorts we had gone to early on were not clothing optional we would not have gone as my wife had no intestine of particpating but would allow me to. After had gone and been there a while she realized it is not a big deal etc. and decided on her own to lose the swim suit.

Maybe it's just I, but in the picture showing the woman reporter and the big nudist, her eyes are not pointing at his eyes. They're looking elsewhere. Hmmm.
It's difficult to tell whether these news reports give us good or bad publicity. As one fellow said - I don't care what they say about me, as long as they spell my name right. That thought is not applicable here. All to often, nudists are partly at the mercy of the attitude of the news department of the media.

Me thinks that while the reporter was talking about "naked" vacations, the station was deliberately perpetuating the stereotypical myth that nudist resorts attract the aged, the out-of-shape and the rural Appalachian.
Wouldn't it have been way-cool to have a gorgeous SI blonde supermodel telling the TV audience, "nudity is freedom. Without clothes aren't we all the same under the skin?" Now that would have showed 'em!!

Perhaps, resorts should require that reporters take off their clothes before the cameras roll, and they start interviewing anyone.
A good reporter should see how it feels to be nude outdoors and being with other nude people. Then, he/she can give an accurate report. Might make a convert!

I couldn't agree more. There have been plenty of these reports and interviews by clothed reporters at nude venues and I think it's time that these venues told these news outlets that, if they want to do a real story, want to know what it's really like ... they'll have to strip down and experience it first hand.
Each time one of these reports is done, it's the same. They start out mature enough but by the time it's finished, the reporter or newscaster in the studio seem to have to practice their standup routines and the dumb jokes start.
Loves being naked. Plays well with others!

I'm glad that was your personal experience, it certainly has not been mine. I think the static memberships of most clubs and dwindling of nude (now clothing optional) beaches speaks for itself. At resorts my wife (and many other women) now cover up in sarongs much of the time. And the other day at a formerly nude beach (now CO), my wife was the ONLY nude woman there for hours. 20 years ago, back when it was a nude beach, there were dozens. CO is the PC of nudism, IMO.
