In Spain there are no rules against nudity, but if anyone wants to try and fine you for,eg, being naked in a textile area, you are within your rights to pay nothing,as it is your constitutional right to be naked.
Back in 1989, Spain announced that it would no longer be a crime to create a "public scandal" or to any action that could "offend". Before 1989, it was possible to be offensive, but this is no longer the case, although the naturist comunity in Spain always asks members not to take the advantage, because the best way to be accepted by the clothed society is by not provoking them unnecessarily. However, you can never be fined in Spain if you are near a bathing area.
What you can get into trouble with in Spain is being on a naturist beach, entirely naked, and not having your passport on you.Something that you rarely do, but you do get the odd mischevious gardia civil winding up forigners in this way. But if you have a photocopy, authorised by the police station, this is enough, as long as it's in your bag with your stuff you cant get into any trouble.
In Spain you cannot be done for any type of indeceny for being naked.
You can legally be naked in a textile area if you are on a public beach, riverbank, lake or reservoir or marsh.Unless public bathing is not allowed in these areas, in which case there may be some minor restrictions.
Ther can only be restrictions in privately owned bathing areas, but even then NOBODY CAN LEGALLY FINE OR ARREST YOU FOR BEING NAKED.

nudepete2003, that sounds great...and so inviting. We may have to plan a visit to Spain in the future. I wish America would be so enlightened.

Naturally, Dan :)

Does anyone know which other countries have similar nudist-friendly laws or constitutions?

I know that Denmark does (indecency can still be a crime, but nudity per se is constitutionally declared to not be indecent).

In Texas, the State Supreme Court declared that women cannot be discriminated against by laws or ordinances against toplessness unless men were also precluded. Of course, many police don't seem to understand the constitution, and for them, ignorance of the law does seem to be a defence...

Cheers!

The Netherlands (holland) is very Naturist friendly (except for the wheater).

Along the sea there are many nudebeaches and in the inland it is als not difficult to find one.
From wher I live there are at least 10 official and even more and some more unofficial nude beaches. within 50 km.
Topless is very common.

So exept for the wheater it is naturist friendly here.

Here are some sites that have topfree information for the US. Unfortunatly I dont think any states have as much body freedom as Spain or Denmark :(

http://nac.oshkosh.net/StatesFrames/state_laws_and_legislation.html (Naturist Action Committee website)
http://www.topfreedom.com
http://www.topfree.ca or http://www.tera.ca

Basicly the above sites are only good for general info, some sites are way out of date on some states. Ask a local lawyer before trying topfreedom (Men And Women) :)

Do nudepete's details about Spain mean it is OK to be nude anywhere in Spain? I like to hike along the quiet forest tracks but I am always aware that there might be someone around who will be offended. Of course I can cover up but I do not want to end up in trouble with the law.

Welcome to the forum Tim. I do not think it says you can be nude anywhere in Spain, just in certain areas.

tim, think thee is no law against nudity. but if you are in a place deemed inappropriate (like church), they might ask you to put something on. but they would regard you as eccentric, not criminal. you would not be handed over to the Inquisition for treatment.

I think your right about that Calmnude, Spain is comfortable with nudity, just in the appropriate places like the beach and parks. Not like here if you walked down the strreet nude they would just probably tell you put on some clothes as opposed to arresting you.
