We visited Queensland in October a few years ago - evidently just before the box jellyish season. But I agree: the prevalence of those 'first-aid' stations every 20 meters or so was a sobering sight. Just a warning sign above a little shelf where a bottle of vinegar would be kept, to ease the pain until the EMTs could arrive. Those Aussies must be a brave lot, to go swimming in those conditions.

i was watching a show on tv about sharks and they did mention new smyrna as a tourist site for sharks, think i'll watch from the beach. and a warning for those with little common sense- saw this at the fishing pier at st.augustine , don't swim around a fishing pier where everyone has bloodly bait on their hooks especially at night. saw a couple swimming at night below the pier we stood ther for a while waiting for shark-tail to appear but the swimmers had luck on their side, thank godness it would not have been a pretty sight.
