Whoever mentioned being able to run faster?, I think the original comment was "more comfortable", I second Philzer.
Mind you swimmers and cyclists are known to shave to reduce drag.
Also, wether it was here or else where I cannot remember, someone said that Saddam liked his women to be smooth. I think it's part of their religion that they cannot have more that 40days growth?
Guess he broke that rule when captured!

I asked the question if bike racers and swimmers shaved completely and if so for what reason. The answer was it creates less drag. The reason given for shaving completely was that it was more comfortable when racing.

I am totally shaved as is my wife. It's a nice look we think, certainly cooler here in sunny S. Florida. I have never liked body hair on myself, and I find I actually feel cooler and cleaner with the hair removed. Stopping by Haulover now and then I think I see a fair amount of shaved or trimmed men, and almost all of the women are trimmed or completely shaved. Looks like a great board here, I am looking forward to contributing.

From the "I don't want to sound like a know-it-all dept."...I've been bike racing for over 20 year's. I've shaved my legs sometimes, and sometimes I haven't. No difference with the results. I'm not sure if I should write this, but here's the 'skinny': Shaved leg's look more 'cut'. Professional racer's traditionally receive daily massage's after they train and it's much more comfortable being smooth. It does not make healing faster nor reduce the chance of infection after a crash. True, I've 'felt' faster after shaving my legs, only to have a hairy guy at the same fitness level as me kick my butt because I made a dumb strategical decision. While aerodynamic's are obviously muy importanto, having smooth leg's doesn't hold a candle to a proper fitting bike and efficient riding technique.
That said (Geez that was lecturesque!), Kevin was nice enough to add a low quality web camera photo I took last Saturday to my profile...I have the 'tufted' look now! Wooo-Hooo!

My point was that I couldn't see where the speed thing came in, perhaps I missed it somewhere.
I am on dial up but each time I skip from page to page it is taking about a minute to load, have just looked back through the last 4 or 5 pages and still can't see it.
At least we all seem to like it smooth - wondering if there are any chemists out there who could make a tablet to make your hair fall out, life would be so much simpler.

As a former biker, (hardcore distance rides, not competition), I have to totally agree with all of that. But I would like to ad this: When I was heavily into riding, they told me that it would hurt a little less when they tear the tape off of your wounds from a crash. Fortunately, I never had occasion to test that theory! Also, I can't imagine that aerodynamics would be affected by hair, even if you were a chimp. In the water, hydrodynamics maybe, because of the higher viscosity of the water, but not in the air. Maybe I'm wrong. There was a pro racer guy back in the 80s or 90s, and he had long, flowing, past shoulder length hair, and he was real fast. But I'm so senile, I can't remember his name.

A emregency room guy moaned at me once for having a crew cut, do you guys understand what I mean by a number 1? Everytime he tried to clean the wound up on my head the hair would spray him with what was left of my head!
It's all healed now
