Posted - 03/21/2006 : 10:33:13 AM My husband and I are considering embarking upon our first trip to a nude beach sometime in the next few weeks. We have been trying to find information on the nude beach near Galveston, Texas, especially since Hurricane Rita. Does anyone have current information?
Also, we have heard that sometimes the local sheriff writes citations for people. Is it legal to be nude at this beach or is it just that you can "get away with it" sometimes?
We will be coming with our baby. Are the mosquitoes really horrible? Can we access the beach in a 2WD minivan? |

Posted - 03/22/2006 : 12:20:47 AM D-TX is right. The cops at Bolivar apparently have more important things to worry about than naked sunbathers on an isolated beach ... but they do drop by on occasion. Even so, arrests for being nekkid at High Island are not the norm. |

The only public place in TX where nudity is legal, is Hippie Hollow Clothing Optional Park in Austin on Lake Travis (http://www.co.travis.tx.us/tnr/parks/hippie_hollow.asp).
There are some current discussions about the Bolivar/High Island beach on the Texas Nude Recreation Forum (http://www.texnude.com/modules/newbb/viewforum.php?forum=10).
Hope this info helps!

The police in Galveston are not at all nudist-friendly. You may be thinking about the High Island beach over on the Bolivar peninsula. You have to take the ferry (free) from Galveston Island and then drive a ways. It isn't a great beach ... the water isn't always very clear, and sometimes there's a lot of seaweed on shore ... but it's definitely a nude beach, which is something you'll be lucky to find on Galveston Island. Send me an email or a private message if you need directions. |

http://www.sss.org/%7Egcnyc/ is their website. All of TX AANR clubs can be found at http://www.aanr.com/stateclubs/aanr-tx.html and you might be able to find more at TNS's website at www.naturistsociety.com and click on Network.
