Posted - 07/14/2005 : 10:50:30 PM I've noticed on the web some sites and organizations that promote unofficial nude swimming in Maryland. But I wanted to ask anyone in the Maryland area for their favorite beaches, rivers, lakes or any other places that you've been to recently. I've explored the more remote lower eastern shore barrier islands and have found them to be fantastic, particularly past the peak travel season. The Cheasapeake Flotilla supports nude boating as a way for like minded people to get together out on the water. But I'd like to hear from as many of you as possible about your favorite skinny dipping spots. |

Posted - 11/23/2008 : 8:47:06 PM We go down on the OSV (over sand vehicle) 4x4 area, south end of the MD part of the island. You can see people coming for a mile and all you have to do is carry a towel with you when you go for a walk. Cover-up when you see a ranger coming, they smile and wave, no problems at all in the past two years. May be a different story on the north end (north of state park), only was there once and was very uncomfortable with the "sleezy" atmosphere. Many gays, many voyeurs....YMMV

Posted - 05/19/2008 : 12:37:22 PM It's still not legal. The AANR-Eastern Region has been working hard to establish a good relationship with the rangers and other authorities there. If you're interested in helping, join AANR and take part in the bi-annual cleanups. Cheri

Better you should get in touch with AANR and/or the Government Affairs Capt. for MD (Ray Simpson, roadkillray@verizon.net) to keep abreast of happenings there. There was a beach cleanup earlier this summer and will be another in the fall. They are working towards getting a c/o area there. Cheri

Posted - 07/16/2007 : 01:49:06 AM Having lived in Maryland for some time I am not even sure if I would go swimming at all in the water ways there much less swim without the thin protection of clothing.... Good luck on that, Maryland is the most pruddish and restrictive place that I have ever lived in which is why I moved to New Mexico. Hopefully you will get involed with one of the clubs in MD. I know that there is one in Baltimore. |

Posted - 07/11/2007 : 09:08:51 AM After Assateague's June cleanup, one of the volunteers proceeded to disrobe and fell asleep. He was given, I believe, a $300 ticket. To find out what laws are in your state, you can go to www.naturistsociety.com and click on NAC/NEF and then NAC and then the listing of states or just go to this link: http://naturistaction.org/StatesProvincesTerritories/states.html
Your communities might have other laws, ordinances that are more strict. Cheri

Posted - 07/11/2007 : 08:24:12 AM I looked into Assateague over the winter. I understand folks do go there but, you have to be careful and you could be fined. I wouldn't be driving up to Sandy Hook,NJ if there were options here. FYI.There was a MD Court of Appeals ruling last year on a mooning incident. State law only requires you cover your genitals. You can lay out in your backyard in a thong(which I do). I believe you wouldn't have problems at Sandy Point but,you might want to walk aways down the beach where it is less crowded.

Posted - 07/10/2007 : 11:18:47 PM I'm not sure if it's better to revive this topic or post a new one. Anyway, I'm looking for information on the legality of nudity in Maryland. From what I've researched it's illegal (misdemeanor) and punishable by up to a $1,000 fine and/or 3 years in prison. That seems quite a healthy fine for being naked (tho I was unable to find a definition of indecent exposure) so I'm wondering if that is one of those laws that have healthy fines which can be imposed on the truly malice or, if I'm caught taking a naked stroll on a secluded beach and the DNR find me am I looking at a heck of a fine.

To up-date this question, I've heard from time to time about the possibility of revisiting the question of allowing nude swimming at the north end of Assateague National Park. It has been used for this informally over the years with an on again/off again anti-ndity enforcement. Does anyone have any up-dates?
As I wrote in the Assateague topic, there is a cleanup scheduled on 9/16. It is not legal and the rangers are there in force. Cheri
