Posted - 05/05/2009 : 8:31:45 PM I have not seen this beach mentioned on this site. I have seen conflicting information elsewhere.
Can someone give me the facts on this beach?

Posted - 05/28/2010 : 10:43:22 AM Nudists on Passage Key are a running gag on the Ron and Ian Show, 620WDAE Tampa Bay. Whenever there is a fishing segment, the topic quickly changes from grouper and snapper to boaters encountering nudists on this bit of land at the entrance to Tampa Bay. Being a sports radio talk show- or a comedy show that occasionally covers baseball, football and basketball- nudism on Passage Key is a harrowing affair with birds landing on mens penises, toasted sunburned genitals and of course the sexual implications of a lopsided male/female ratio on Passage Key.
Invariably as they enter a hard break for a commercial, co-hosts Ron Diaz or Ian Beckles will mutter something like "man, don't take me there, brother. I ain't bending over" and thankfully the entire subject of nudists will die peacefully... until such time as the show exhausts its other tried and true topics of attractive, scantily dressed young female interns, visiting pole dancers and a perpetual review of Tampa Bays best gentleman's clubs.
Remember when radio sports shows actually talked about sports?

Posted - 05/18/2009 : 12:30:59 AM I performed this Google search, and among many nuggets was this nice Wikimapia satellite photo of Passage Key. There was some status information included on that page. Click on the photo for fullscreen.
Also, a 2006 comment from Likwidsukr at Raft-Up forum:
"Passage Key is just off the South tip of Egmont Key at the mouth of Tampa Bay, and is a very popular spot for boaters in the summer. People are not allowed on the island itself (it is a bird sanctuary), so boaters anchor in the shallow water off of the east side. This is also a popular hangout for nude sunbathers, so if you are easily embarrased, you may want to find another spot :eek"
Read this even older 2005 comment on clothesfreeforums by dave28:
05-29-2005, 09:49 AM "I have a searay and am nude most of the time on tampa bay. I go to passage key, just south of egmont key. This is a traditional nude area with a lot of boats on the weekend. You can not go on the island, but anchoring in the shallow water outside the posted signs is permitted. Even though you can't go on the beach this is still a great place with sandy knee deep water with lots of people and volley ball. On nice days you can kayak there from Anna Maria island or Fort Desoto beach. Also I can take others there on my boat."
The latest info I have is from the Wikimapia website:
21 months ago - DMurrell
"Passage key is no longer an island of any kind. It is now more akin to a sand bar."
13 months ago - Globaljosh
"Indeed, today it's a shoaling/sandbar area only, although parts of it will still emerge from the water during extreme low tides. However, it's still a very popular anchorage for the nude sunbathers, for which it has become locally infamous."
It looks like there isn't much recent information. Anyone? |
