Hi. I have been a nudist now for about 4 years. I live in a apartment so i spend almost all my time ther nude. But i have never been a a nudist resort or beach. I have been wanting to but i havent had the time. I just wanted to no. At nudist beaches, Do nudist share the same bathrooms and showers. Like i could walk into the bathroom and see guys in there to. And same with the showers. I just thought that would make sence, if we all use the same showers and stuff. because if we are allready nude. What else do we have to hide. u no what i mean!! Thnaks for your help. -Lisa

Both the naturist clubs we are members of have unisex showers. Not a problem at all.

For several years I enjoyed the Valley View Hot Springs CO resort in Colorado. Their communal restroom was also the community bulletin board, public phone, diswashing sink for campers, etc. It had urinals and a row of stalls with doors. It surprised a few new visitors but everyone got used to it pretty quickly.

One day while I was standing by the urinal (which didn't have a screen) a little girl about maybe 4 years old came along and stood to watch and then giggle. I figured that a basic education in male anatomy and body functions wouldn't hurt. As long as she was old enough to be curious she was old enough to learn about men. She left before I was done.

Later they built a second restroom in another part of the resort, near the pool. It too was communal, and had nicer showers.

www.olt.org is their web site.

I have to agree with Warmskin. If we're all naked, why hide in seperate bathrooms? Stalls around toilets should be the only necessary division within a bathroom. That is deffinately the last logical step towards being a nudist is giving up the unnecessary need for a seperate bathroom. Never having been to a nudist resort or club before, I have never actually used a coed bathroom, but the idea still sounds logical at a nudist club, resort, or whatever the type of place.

"Mr. Gorbechav, tear down this [bathroom] wall!"
I did hear that coed dorms are getting more and more common at colleges, so maybe this is a good start?

I think it just makes a guy look totally stupid to walk to the showers in your underwear, you look more like an idiot with them on then just walking full nude buy clothed people...

I belong to 2 different gyms and see this behavior constantly. Hard to figure out.

Quote from Nodony - (using a coed restoom uncomfortably), a mental conditioning from the textile world that was fairly absurd in the nudist world. I wasn't seeing anything beyond the nudity already present throughout the nudist resort, and other people weren't "catching" me in a more vulnerable or embarrassing state.

I resumed using the urinals, and it just became a non-issue. You just start becoming unaware of who's behind you or next to you; you just do your business and exit. If you've never tried it, it's much less of a big deal than you might think.

I heartily concur with Nudony. After all,we share our nudity with everyone at a resort. What is really the problem with using a coed restroom. Funny how some nudists are very uncomfortable with a coed bathroom, and textile folks are uncomfortable (they think) with the thought of going to a nudist resort. So, in that way, there is a parallel between textiles and nudists who don't want to use a coed restroom.

There is a progression of ridding ourselves from social and cultural surpressions and limitations. First,it is rejection of being communally nude, followed by the later acceptance being nude. Then there is the acceptance of the idea of visiting a nudist resort. Next is the rejection of coed bathrooms. Lastly, is the acceptance of coed bathrooms as Nudony discovered.

You can put a partition that separates the urinal area, and have, naturally, stalls around the commodes. I don't see any problems with men and women using the wash basins together after relieving themselves. Washing one's hands is not very sexy, and doing a little bit of combing of one's hair or preening is not sexual either.

I think many nudists should take the second step of nudism, and break the barriers of using coed bathrooms, just as surely as they broke the barriers of mixed nudity in nudist resorts. Nudony is right - we have been conditioned to use separate bathrooms, just as most people have been conditioned to wear clothes at all times.

It was too hot to pull the curtains around, so to at least get some air flow, you pretty much had to leave them at least partially open.

Hell, in my basic training, we had two or three showers, but they were all separate from one another. However, when I got to my unit at Fort Bragg, the showers were just an open bay. There were 4 shower heads against the wall, and you showered right next to the other guys. On weekday mornings, after PT, everyone else waited outside of the shower for someone to exit so they could go in there.

They just tore down those old barracks on fort Bragg a few weeks ago. I remember those showers

Really? Wow, I'm surprised. I'm looking at google maps and sure enough, the 2 sets of barracks that were next to us are already gone in the satellite view. I was with the 82nd, right near the 82nd Replacement unit, where the softball field is. We were right off of Gruber Road between Lae St. and Los Banos St. I see some new barracks right next to them now.

Thanks Warmskin.

I remember when I was in Iraq during the first Gulf War, we made our own showers by putting the big 5 gallon water cans on top of a Humvee to warm up in the sun, then just opening the spout and standing underneath. We'd just shower completely naked out in the open. Lots of times we'd even just hang out nude for some time afterwards. I remember once when a helicopter came in, carrying a female officer. My buddy was in the middle of his shower, he just looked over, saw she was on there, and just continued showering, without a care that a female was present.

Most important, outdoor shared showers. Second important, indoor shared showers. Lastly, if there are many people segregated toilets, few people mixed toilets.

Happy Nuding.

Even the prestigious USAF had open showers - usually several showerheads in a row. One time my supervisor talked with me while I was taking a shower. I didn't mind at all. His 5 year son was with him and he stared at me. No big deal, really. I was very comfortable with both of them there while I got cleaned up. I should have known from that experience that I was on my way to becoming a nudist.

Great new photo, RoofTopWilly!! Wondered what you looked like under that hat.

I still feel that showers should be shared and bathroom should be seperated by a wall of some kind so like if you can imagine having the male urinals against a wall with stalls as well then you have like 10 shower stalls in a row before you find the female toilets.

I don't know if it's still that way; but Bell Acres had a rustic, ultra-basic coed bathroom. The bathroom area was slightly behind and right next to the shower area/pool exit. It had two entrances: one by the shower area, the other on the other side. There were about four or five urinals closest to the shower exit; three or four stalls (fully enclosed) on the other side. Since most people entered by the pool exit, the people going for the stalls unavoidably walked by the urinals.

I'm not going to lie; the first time I used the urinal - and a couple of women walked right past me heading for the stalls - I nearly toppled over. The situation defied and challenged my concepts of privacy and intimacy. Sure, at home we often left the bathroom doors open (notwithstanding #2's); but we were family. But these were random people that were crossing into my personal space. I actually stopped using the urinal, preferring to walk around and enter the bathroom area from the "stall side", and using the stall nearest to the exit.

Then, one day, I had an epiphany while waiting for my wife, who was using one of the stalls. As I stood next to the bathroom exit, I realized that it wasn't like people were doing their "business" in plain sight. The men using the urinals had their back turned and that was pretty much the only thing you could see; and the fully enclosed stalls were actually very private. I realized then that the "hang-up" was mostly in my head, a mental conditioning from the textile world that was fairly absurd in the nudist world.
