Nudists and non-nudists alike often choose to sleep nude. When I was becoming a nudist I was encouraged to sleep nude as a good transition step. While I quickly learned that sleeping nude is more comfortable, I also realized that sleeping nude requires me to change my sheets more often (it used to be once a week, now it's twice.) I've also read of a male on this forum who sleeps in underpants to make sure no urine drips on the bed after middle-of-the-night bathroom trips. Do you and/or your spouse/ mate sleep nude? What advantages and disadvantages do you see in nude sleeping?

Melissa

Something that has not been brought up is the 'shock factor' when confronting intruders in the nude. Quite a while back, some one was messing around the house late at night. We live on a dead end road, up next to a mountain. The person that was messing around the house was a 'little' shocked when I confronted him in the nude with a high power flashlight in one hand and handgun in the other! He beat a hasty retreat and to my knowledge has not been back. In fact we have not had anyone messing around our place since then.

I would have to say that the “shock factor” you’ve mentioned is also a valid concern for anyone dealing with any type of emergency. Such as the aforementioned fire, earthquake, etc. When most people find themselves in an emergency and unless they’ve been trained otherwise they’re going to panic.

As such the first thing that most of those people are going to want to do is to “get the hell out of dodge.” They’re not going to be thinking, “I need to grab my ‘go bag’” on the way out. They’re just going to run out of the house. So for those who own/rent a car having one or more “go bags” in the car is a good idea, as once they’ve settled down they’ll realize that they are now “locked” out of their house, nude and no one is helping them.

They’ll be able to go to their car, or garage if they have one, or some other sort of out building, get their go bag and get dressed and wait for the first responders. Sadly, those of us who prefer sleeping in the nude and who do not own/rent a car or who live in an apartment have limited options in that regard.

But folks such as Fireprof, LEOs, soldiers and Vets, etc. are in a better place NOT to panic when confronted with an emergency.

And I have to agree with you that the sight of a naked armed man had to be a bit of a surprise to your unwelcomed “midnight” visitor.

Though I have not had anyone in or around the house, that I know of, in the very late or early hours of the night/day ... we do have several high powered, longer metal handled flashlights in several places throughout the house.

I've only been caught once, very early in my career, without a flashlight at home and that won't ever happen again. I've tried to instill that into our daughters and grandkids but they seem to have trouble with that catching on. hahaha

I would imagine being confronted by a naked person would shock or startle someone. We were responded to a person acting irrational and when we arrived, an elderly woman exited her home, naked, carrying a rake. My crew scattered and said ... "Cap, she's one of your people. How 'bout you handle this one." Ended well without incident but I was surprised that the sight of this elderly naked woman kinda scared my firefighters, at first.

So I suspect that being confronted by a naked person, holding a gun would be even more frightening! hahaha

I forgot to mention that we also have a limited supply of other essentials such as, toothbrushes, toothpaste (changed regularly), hair brush, deodorant (that's changed out regularly), liquid soap.

Great idea FireProf. It's easier to run outside nude with our pack of essential items already outside in the car. We do not care if non-nudists see us nude in an emergency situation.

We took it one step further ...

We have duffle bags in each of our cars and in the motorhome. There are clothes and shoes in each of those bags for both of us. If the big one should ever hit while we are alive, we know that there are clothes to wear in at least two vehicles that are parked outside.

Having those at your disposal doesn't make you any less a nudist than the person who insists on vacating their home in an emergency, in the nude, to make a point. I don't see that as being too smart. I prefer being naked just as much as the next nudist but I also prefer being prepared what I may encounter after vacating our home in an emergency.

Since we cannot imagine sleeping any other way but nude we keep a small emergency clothing pack ready just in case we need to evacuate in a hurry.
That way we can run out naked to be safe. With emergency pack in hand we can then get dressed. Never had to use it yet, but we are ready.

I got into a discussion on sleeping nude on another site. I mentioned how, living in So Cal and the commonality of earthquakes happening here, has made us be more aware of the possibility of having to vacate the house in case of one of those that may be the "big one" or of any other emergency (fire) and our preference for being nude. I spoke of how we now keep tennis shoes, flip flops and a robe at the end of the bed each night ... just in case.

I was surprised at how many "nudists" felt that it be more "nudist" to just vacate the house naked and it didn't matter that they were nude, it mattered that they were safe. NO ARGUMENT there but ... then what? Are you safe from the cold, rain, broken glass, splintered wood, metal ... why is it so important to have your neighbors know that you're a nudist and risk your protection from the elements that you'd rather NOT be prepared ... just to make a point?

No telling how long before someone comes to your rescue. I've encountered a number of naked people standing outside their homes ... in their front and backyards. Neighbors have done everything from NOTHING to getting them clothes and putting them inside their homes. But it was apparent that in each incident, those naked people were out there on their own for longer than you'd imagine before someone stepped forward to help.

I can't and won't sleep any other way but naked. No matter where I am ... if it's absolutely impossible ... then I'm not sleeping or even trying to sleep. There's no doubt I'm a nudist but I sure don't have to risk my safety in case of an emergency ... to prove it by exposing myself to the elements or to my neighbors.

I went to Toronto last night and stayed with a friend. I met this girl online last year on a motorcycle website and we became friends. We've hung out a few times, and she knows my propensity for being naked, but had never actually experienced it yet. She came to a concert with me last night and offered for me to stay over on her couch. I reminded her that I do like to sleep naked, and she didn't care. So after we got home from the concert last night, I slipped out of my clothes and sat down on the couch. She had absolutely no problem with it and sat down with me and we talked for a while, she made some snacks, etc. Then went to bed and I slept on the couch. Woke up this morning and decided not to get dressed since she had no issues with my nakedness. Finally got dressed when I had to leave, but stripped down again immediately when I got in my truck for the drive home.

I always sleep nude have for over 40 plus years. It's relaxing no clothes to restrict your movements.

Sleeping nude is a funny thing because I've been sleeping nude since i was 12 or 13. My girlfriend of 2 years has never slept nude before meeting me, and now she can't sleep unless she IS nude lol. She isn't nude around the house as much as I am but at least she enjoys the nude campground and resorts. thats a win! :)
