First off I want to thank everyone who has welcomed us in the "Introduce yourself" thread and e-mails.
As i've said in my that post, I have been a nudist myself since I was a teen, but after haveing a family I wasn't sure I could do it with out daughter around. Well with everthing I have read here I found out its OK so last Monday we all got nude at home. Out Daughter was a bit suprised I guess since she told me to get dressed, but me and mommy explined theat this is OK at home and its should be no big deal, after that she joined us and everyday since then, we all go nude whenever we can.
You may think this is great, which it is, but alos it has gotten me over a phobeia of being nude in front of my daughter. I've explined that there is a good way to be naked and a bad. And of course as a rule, if mommy isn't home or taken a nap, we get dressed then, since I'm sure alot of nudist parents may know, not everyone in the textile world understands.
We've told our daughter about the nudist park near us and she is really excited about going. I'll let everyone know how that goes.
Also I'm sorry if this post seems to go on and on, but I'm just not the best at typing. I tend to ramble.

Wow, Guys, such informed and intelligent advice. An earlier comment here outlined all the additional reading needed for now. So, basically, just be me, no big deal, and let Nia flow into it which she has clearly said is no problem for her and she actually looks forward to it, and let the kid just be herself, as it is so natural for a 4 year old.

And, Socially (be damned but...) the child will understand the difference... excellent observation!! You have brought me to complete peace in this matter.

I will read a little, talk with Nia more (tho it is mostly settled) and let you know....they fly in from Overseas on 9/6, we have only met once but have 10,000 myriad emails, txts and phone calls and our love is confirmed (for those to whom it may matter) and will let you know how it goes.

Please feel free to write with whatever in the mean...

Stevied, my two-cents, as someone who grew up in and parented in a naturist family, is to keep things simple. The change of context into a naturist household is the perfect time to set the tone from the start. Personally, I wouldn't complicate things with "introduction steps" that have to be adjusted later. A 4-year old will adapt to you as you are and she'll understand that in this new place it is ok to be dressed or not. Kids understand context -- certain clothes for school, others for church, no dress code at home. She will certainly watch her sister, so you two may want to sort of map out in advance what the basic new household routine will look like and think about how to answer any questions simply and consistently. But above all, don't worry -- kids thrive in an open naturist household!

Vince, sounds like you've smoothly made the transition! Congrats! As others have mentioned, it usually complicates things to have exception rules, like "mommy napping", since it makes a big deal of clothes when the core message is that family rules and relationships are always the same regardless of attire.

Don't make the mistake I made. My wife and I were worried about what the kids would say to day care workers and teachers so as they got older we started wearing clothes when they were awake. Now they are 8 and 6. Im sorry we worried about what people might think. Now that the kids are older I would like to introduce my them to nudism but my wife is now hesitant. Stay with it when they are young and it wont be an issue as they get older...

I agree with Bob, at 4yo she will be a natural nudist. She will take her que from her sister, if she is at ease so will her little sis.

I hope you read this thread. Several points, both Vince and his wife are nudists. It is harder when only one parent is involved. Do NOT overthink this. Kids adapt very well. Good Luck.

Also, I wonder, how do you handle it when the 4 year old tells the neighbor friend "Poppy, Nia and I never wear clothes at home...we are naked all the time"?
stevied Posted - 08/19/2008 : 04:12:22 AM
Hi, Guys,

I am newly registered. I will have a lot of questions, and so may my new lady. Y'see, I have been a personal nudist all my life. I attended clubs as a much younger man but just personal at home for many years now.

Here is the scenario...I have been honored by a Lady who has agreed to come into my life. She is open to Nudism, never really thought about it before but is very interested in the exploration. The question is, she is raising her 4 year old Sister who will join, of course, in this Union. What would be the proper introduction steps for this little one? I must maintain my fully nude enviroment at home but am flexible enough to take it in steps if there are any.

My "feeling" is to just do from the shower and walk around drying then slip on light shorts at first and ease gently into full nudity. Nia (my Lady) will need some help once she gets here (3 weeks or so) so this is just for me for now.

Your input is appreciated.

Well, I'm here to learn... I think this whole subject is fascinating-- Many of our views about this originate in childhood, which might explain the social phobia against nudity and the distortion and exploitation of it. I think I need some nudist therapy, but noone will join me...

As I pointed out to you before, children are born without shame, it is there adult that influences their upbringing that instils shame in them, adults are shamed by pious control freaks.

Vince's daughter is doing what children are good at, enjoying herself, don't let anyone rob your child of its innocence before he/she has had time to enjoy childhood.

Hi Vince

Don't worry about the thread drift and meaningful debates, it always happens!

Congratulations for a successful day out, glad you enjoyed it, and know you KNOW and can quote with authority that children really don't see shame in nudity, it is misguided adults who are shameful, so next time you hear someone say "Not in front of the children" you'll be able to tell them straight.

Wow, I never ment for this to become a polital disscussion and or a issiue about morals. Before I decited to bring thef amily into this I did do some reading about this, I felt good about what i read and I think and agree that in the long run it could beifit my daugher's growth. My mother use to talk about when she was a child she you go in the bathroom wiht her father while he showered after work, not to look or anything eles, it was just to spend time with him. She is now very well adjusted and has no problems or ever had any problems.
We went to our first nudist park last weeked, our daughter did't seemed "shocked" affarid, or question anything on anyone. As a matter of fact she was the first on to get undressed . We didn't make her do that. She played, swam, played so more, ate, played with the dogs, etc and it seemed as if she as oblivouse of the fact everyone there was nude.
So basicly, The studies I have read are right, now its up to the indival on wheather or not they want to belive it, But for me this works. My mother never hide her nakeness from me when she would get out of the bath, and I don't see anything wrong now.

If you explore a site like NationMaster, statistically, the United States, which has what could be called a prudish view toward nudity, the results are somewhat surprising. The logic would suggest that the sexual activity among teens would be lower if we suppress nudity. The United States ranks #1 (higher incidence) in Teen Birth Rate, as well as the Per Capita Teen Pregnancy, #9 in Rapes per Capita.

At the same time, the nations in Europe that we consider liberal when it comes to nudity, France, Sweeden, etc. end up quite a bit further down the list.

A healthy attitude towards the body is probably only part of the equation but it is definitely part of the equation.

The disclaimer? I have heard it said that there are liars, damn liars and statisticians. To a point, you can make statistics tell just the story you want.

Well, I don't mean to be a party-pooper, but, I have read that some psychologists say that adult nudity can be upsetting to children. I think it is ok for mommy, but the father should probably have a towel for the daughter...just my opinion and I could certainly be wrong, but I don't think i would condone that... ;then again, I'm not an expert on the nudist lifestyle never having been at a public function or nude beach. But one must be careful in what is presented to a young child. I'm certainly not a psychologist but shooting from the hip here...

The problem with some so called experts is they can colour their 'expert' opinion with their own beliefs brought on them by religion and upbringing. Here in the UK a so called expert had several mothers imprisoned on his advice as the expert for the prosecution, he was later discredited, struck off the medical register and the women released, but he ruined the lives of several families in the process.

If you are going to quote an 'expert' then you should at least be able to provide the source as Cheri did, its not difficult to do a search to find the information.

Anyway, I think countless nudist families will be able to testify the benefits of raising children in the nudist lifestyle, its a shame Jenn isn't still around, she is a shining example of nudist upbringing.

Thankyou Cheri.
This topic is by far the most important to many of us. There is plenty of bad info out there. We don't need it HERE.

Once it becomes a full nudist household, it would be fine according to the various studies done.

There have been a number of studies regarding children & nudism.

Marilyn Story, in the Journal of Psychology, Vol. 118, first Half,
Sept. 1984 "Comparisons of Body Self-Concept between Social Nudists & Nonnudists"

Marilyn Story, in Jour. of Social Psychology, 1979, 108, 49-56 "Factors
Associated w/More Positive Body Self-Concepts in Preschool children"

Robin Lewis & Louis Janda, in The Relationship Between Adult Sexual
Adjustment & Childhood Experiences Regarding Exposure to Nudity,
Sleeping in the Parental Bed, &Parental Attitudes Toward Sexuality, Arch. of Sexual Behavior, Vol. 17, No.4, 1988

Marilyn Story in "A Comparison of Social Nudists & Non-nudists on
Experience w/Various Sexual Outlets" Journ. of Sex Research, Vol. 23, No. 2, pp
197-211, May 1987

Mary S. Calderone, M.D., in "The Family Book About Sexuality," states:
" ... with very young children accustomed from the beginning to nudity in
themselves and their parents, a great deal is taken for granted, and it
doesn't seem to be much of an issue to them. What nudity does is make it
easy for children to become absolutely certain about just how men and
women are made. This knowledge is of great importance in assuring the child of his or her own correct gender. The differences in body states and sizes - and in body organs - can then be taken for granted and will provide an accurate image of how they themselves, or the opposite sex, will look when grown up. Children whose parents feel at ease in such natural events as stepping out of the shower, toweling, and walking back to their room to dress are fortunate."
